Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.-Chapter 414: Fight for territory.
For a moment. Just a tiny second, Sunshine poked her head out of the window of her truck. For some reason, she had a feeling that she had missed something.
She did not get to dwell on it much because Nimo tugged on her arm. "We need to put out the fires. Are we using water or do you have something fancy that we can use?"
"Fancy." Sunshine settled back in the truck. She waved her hand, and a fire extinguisher appeared.
Nimo rolled her eyes. "That is not fancy."
"It is not what is on the outside that matters, it is what is inside it." Sunshine replied mysteriously.
Nimo parked the truck beside debris. Meanwhile, work on restoring and securing the territory was already ongoing.
Commander Grayson, tall and disciplined as always, barked orders as his squad undertook the task of installing the bubble around the town. It would connect to the walls of other towns that were part of Fortress four territory.
They worked quickly, pumping the gallons and installing the glue.
"Faster!" Grayson ordered. "I want that shield operational before someone decides it’s a good idea to taunt the snake out of stupidity."
Sunshine let out a sigh. "He’s not wrong about that." She got a packet of cinnamon buns and some milk, intending to have her breakfast finally.
Through a megaphone, Grayson yelled. "Madam President, just go kill the damn thing already."
Sunshine saluted dramatically. "Sir, yes, sir!" She took an elite squad built for monster take downs. She stuffed a bun in her mouth.
As they approached the dying serpent, its giant yellow eye blinked slowly. Its tongue flickered weakly. It tried to lift its head but failed, slamming back onto the ground with a thud that shook dust from shattered rooftops.
"Oh, looks like it’s still got some fight in it left," Nimo gagged. "Why is it always the ugly ones that survive longest?"
Greg cracked his metal knuckles. "This one is mine, ma’am.... Permission to punch it?"
Sunshine grinned. "Permission granted. I am just here to eat my breakfast and supervise you all."
Greg moved in. The snake sensed danger. With a final surge of instinct, it coiled its body and lunged_ its jaws snapping open, fangs bared, letting out a rattling hiss.
Greg didn’t even flinch.
He swung.
One punch.
A single explosive hit from his metal fist connected with the underside of the serpent’s jaw.
The impact echoed like a thunderclap. The serpent’s head snapped back violently. A heartbeat later_ THUD.
Then silence followed.
Nala’s eyes widened. "Impressive."
Greg looked at his fist proudly. "Been working out a lot on the new equipment. I need to move up from the average category."
Hadrian clapped him on the shoulder. "Your fist killed a building too."
He pointed behind Greg, where a house now leaned sideways from the shockwave. Greg winced. The town was already destroyed; more destruction was not good.
Sunshine rolled her eyes. "No worries, we will rebuild the town."
The giant serpent twitched once, twice... then lay still. It was finally dead.
"Good work," Sunshine said. "Now get the swords and chop it up plus the Crocodylus. Load the carcasses into the crates."
Base managers from Fortress four spread out, handling different tasks. They were divided into teams. Some were responsible for medical care, fighting fires, moving debris, feeding the hungry and more.
Sunshine did not participate in the tasks, she drove through the town, drawing plans in her mind for how it could be developed. With all the expansion, she and Hades would need to have a residence in one of the towns.
Westbrook was large, there were parts that were still standing, including nearly half of what was once a large mall.
She could picture Sheldon’s mall in this place. Maybe he could just renovate this broken one. In the center, she wanted to put a large market.
"Hades, I think I have found a place where we can put your publishing house." She said into the radio.
"I can see you." Hades replied.
She looked up at the drone that was following her. Smiling, she waved at it and got back into her truck, driving back to a registration tent. It had been set up near a site that was an Episcopalian church in the town.
It was overcrowded, mothers and children, people cradling injuries. Many were skinny, tired and hungry. Suddenly someone came flying out of the tent, and he fell to the ground.
People screamed and ran in every direction.
Sunshine ran in and saw a short, stocky man standing there with a group behind him. Their expressions were hostile.
"Who are you people and what are you doing in my town!?" the man yelled.
Sunshine immediately had a feeling that these people were part of the same group that attacked her trucks. She put her hands behind her back and said slowly, "This town now belongs to Fortress Four. If you are willing to work with us and help rebuild the town, we welcome you. But if you and your minions are seeking trouble, I advise you to think twice. If you don’t want to enjoy the safety and benefits of our base, I advise you to leave."
The stocky man snickered. "Minions? Do you know who you’re talking to?"
"This is Derone." A young woman said with admiration in her voice. The way she said it was as if the name alone meant something great.
"Am I supposed to recognize him or be impressed?" Sunshine asked.
Behind her, Nimo radioed for reinforcements.
One of Derone’s men growled, "Boss, she called us minions. We cannot allow that. Let’s just deal with this bitch and take the supplies they brought. We are all superhumans after all."
Derone lifted his hand. "Show her what you can do boys. Waste all her people, and any of ours that support them."
His superhumans charged instantly.
Sunshine shook her head, she knew her team would teach these people a lesson, so she stepped back and let them.
Derone stepped to the side, folding his arms, studying her face, watching how she reacted. He wanted to see if she panicked.
Major Elio shouted to the squad, "Defensive positions! Engage!"
One man from Derone’s group turned into metal and rushed the front line. Another man’s arms froze over as ice crawled across his skin. Electricity sparked across a woman’s shoulders. Fire lit up someone’s fists. The geokinetic stomped the ground and stone spikes shot up like spears. The aerokinetic spun her hands, and wind blasted the tents apart.
Fortress Four squads reacted fast. Their shields locked, dragonoids flared up.
Sunshine didn’t blink. Her people fought. She only wanted one person.... the leader but first she wanted him to watch his people get ripped apart.
Hadrian wore his invisibility and shot a man from the side, when he fell, he didn’t get back up.
One of Derone’s men swung a metal pipe at the distortion in the air, hitting Hadrian and throwing him into the dust. "Shit!" He cursed.
Lightning shot from Tommy’s fingers, frying the young woman that had been drooling over Derone earlier. She was a pyrokinetic, but a weak one.
Another superhuman with super sight abilities stood behind Derone, yelling positions loudly. "Three on your right! Sniper above the metal roof! Two hiding behind the barrels!"
Derone never looked away from Sunshine. He smirked when she didn’t flinch. He was certain that she would lose. His people had been battling mutated beasts every day. Their strength was unequaled.
The tent was ripped apart and the fighting field expanded. Someone threw five grenades and they exploded, sending shock waves through the air with the rise of smoke and dust. Everything was cloaked in a hazy veil of chaos.
