Chapter 415: Strength versus strength

Suddenly, a loud whoosh filled the air. Something swooped down from above. It was Father Nicodemus. His large black wings sliced through the wind. With one strong flap, he shot upward again, dodging a fireball.

His wings glowed faintly at the edges, sharp as blades. He folded them forward and dove again. The cutting edges of his wings sliced across the strongest pyrokinetic’s arms, instantly disabling her fire attacks. "Sunshine, get behind me." Nicodemus shouted as he took the sky again.

A lightning bolt shot toward him, but he twisted midair, letting it pass. His wings cut the air with dangerous speed. He swooped down and kicked the geokinetic in the chest, sending him flying into a broken wall.

Derone only raised an eyebrow. "Interesting pet you have there," he said to Sunshine.

Sunshine didn’t answer him; she was finally joining the fight. Her moves were simple but deadly: freeze and shatter. Instant death.

Derone’s eyes widened. His team was dwindling...and fast.

Major Elio’s voice came through their walkies-talkies. "They have another aerokinetic, he is aiming for our priest."

Nala fired an arrow that struck the aerokinetic in the shoulder. Father Nicodemus dove down, throwing the man to the ground.

Sunshine froze and shattered him immediately.

"Her! Kill her." Derone screamed. "Leave the others, kill this one."

Three of Derone’s men rushed at Sunshine. She formed a block of ice and knocked them all out. Major Elio neutralized them with bullets that were coated with a serum that would temporarily take away their abilities.

Derone fired a flare gun in the air. More people poured out of hiding places like cockroaches coming out of a dark tunnel. It was a mixture, some human and some superhumans.

"How many more are there." Siegfried asked, firing his gun rapidly.

Nimo shouted at Derone. "Dude, could you bring them all at once!" Like Siegfried, she was also firing rapidly. While he was firing bullets, she was releasing fire from her dragonoid.

If anyone got too close, she threw out acid. As far as she was concerned, if it could hurt the big bad bear in an alien world, humans and superhumans were nothing in comparison.

Derone was now standing in between two super humans. His eyes were wide. Terrified. He fired the flare gun again. About twenty more people came out of hiding.

Sunshine stretched her neck a little, rolled her shoulders, and sighed. "Son of a bitch.....this is good training though," she muttered.

She breathed out, and the air around her dropped in temperature. Frost formed on the ground in a circle. Hadrian stepped on it and slipped so fast he fell flat on his back, becoming visible again.

"Oops," Sunshine said. "Careful. Ice is slippery."

"Off." Tommy bellowed.

Everyone from Fortress four understood what he meant to do and many leaped or run away from the ice. But Deron’s people ran to it ignorantly. The wise ones stayed back, cautious.

Tommy squatted down and laid his palms on the ice. Lightning and electricity mingled, sparks flew up like snakes with wings. People twitched, some bled from their eyes.

A woman flew back fifty meters, hit a tent pole, and dropped like a sleeping chicken.

Sunshine was already facing her next target, another pyrokinetic. One of the men guarding Derone. He ran to her, yelling, flames bursting from his arms. She stepped aside, grabbed him by the wrist, and flipped him straight onto his back. Fire shot upward accidentally and burned the top of his own hair. "My hair!" he screamed.

Sunshine looked down at him and grinned. "Not my problem."

A geokinetic lifted a huge stone slab to crush her. Sunshine froze it midair with a single cold breath. The rock turned to ice instantly. Then she kicked it lightly. It shattered into a thousand glittering pieces that rained down like frozen confetti. "Nice try." She laughed.

Two more attackers rushed her at once. Sunshine spun, electricity circling her arms. She hit them both with a double punch_ ice on the right, lightning on the left. They lifted off the ground and flew back like broken dolls.

"What the hell is she?" Derone was confused at how many abilities Sunshine had.

Father Nicodemus called from above as he broke a man’s arm, "Excellent form, Sunshine!"

Sunshine yelled back, "Thank you, Father!"

Derone’s face twisted with anger. "STOP SHOWING OFF AND FIGHT ME!" he roared.

Sunshine looked at him calmly. She had never seen a fool so eager to die. "Yeah, let’s end this."

Derone’s muscles bulged as he charged like a bull. His super strength shook the ground. Sunshine planted her feet, reached behind her back, and pulled out her giant hammer.

The weight of it cracked the ground slightly. Derone’s eyes widened. "Oh... what the fuck is that?"

Sunshine shrugged. "What is going to mash your head in."

Derone swung his fist with full force. Sunshine blocked with the hammer handle. The impact boomed like thunder. "Is that all you’ve got?" she asked.

Derone grabbed a nearby metal post and swung it at her like a baseball bat.

Sunshine ducked, slid under his legs, and hit his back with the hammer. Derone stumbled forward, groaning. "Cheap shot!" he barked.

"Hmmm...," she answered.

He charged again. Sunshine jumped, flipped over him, and landed on his shoulders_ then smacked the top of his head with the hammer, not enough to smash it through.

Derone groaned. "OW! You LITTLE_"

Sunshine kicked him in the face before he finished. He flew backward, skidding across the dirt. He stood again, furious. "I’m going to crush you!"

He tore a chunk of the ground out with his bare hands and threw it at her. Sunshine spun her hammer like a propeller, smashing the rock into dust.

Derone lunged again.

Sunshine slammed the hammer into his stomach, cracking some of his ribs. He wheezed like someone kicked a goat. "What_ what is this thing made of!?" he gasped, blood slipping through his mouth.

"I never asked," Sunshine said.

She swung again.

Derone caught the hammer and tried to yank it from her, but Sunshine froze the handle instantly, not that he could lift it. His hands stuck to it.

Derone screamed, "HOT! COLD! WHAT IS THIS?!"

Sunshine shocked him with electricity through the frozen hammer.

Derone convulsed. "Y-you...!"

"Can’t," Sunshine said. "Stop me." She pulled the hammer free and spun once, gathering ice around her legs and electricity around her arms. Then she smashed the hammer into the ground. Ice erupted beneath Derone, freezing his legs. Electricity blasted upward, shocking him violently. Derone fell to his knees, struggling to get up. "You... think... you can kill me?"

Sunshine sighed. "I don’t think. I know." She lifted the hammer high. "This is for my trucks. Do you know what it cost me to put them together after you and your goons threw grenades inside?"

Derone tried to crawl away. "Wait_!" Sunshine brought the hammer down. The ground cracked like thunder. Dust exploded upward. When it settled, Derone lay completely still_dead. Sunshine rested the hammer on her shoulder.

"Eight minutes and four seconds," she said calmly. "Took longer than I thought it would."

Father Nicodemus landed beside her. "Too be fair, he had super strength. You did good. Now step aside so that I can give this poor soul his final rites."

She rolled her eyes. If heaven and hell were real, Derone’s soul was heading to a dark place. More than that, why was the priest oddly calm? Where was the usual judgement and condemnation?
