Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.-Chapter 428: Bionic Robot Dog.
Before she could even sigh properly, the system chimed again with another notification.
[Congratulations on upgrading to become an Advanced Repairman. Since what you have repaired many robot parts, especially dog related, you are being rewarded with a bionic robot dog.]
Sunshine’s eyes widened. Free gifts from the system were her favorite thing_ and she could not deny that she liked robots. Tank alone had changed her life in so many ways. He made her feel like she owned a personal assistant. So, receiving another robot? Automatic happiness.
A metallic shimmer formed on the floor. Sunshine straightened up as a dog materialized, assembling piece by piece until it stood fully formed. It reminded her of the first dog she worked on. Curly fur, big dopey eyes, very adorable.
Not like Robo dog, the dog she had before with old and spare parts from different things. It had twitched one day and died. She did not even know where it was at the moment. But it was somewhere amidst the pile of metal junk in the space.
Sunshine gushed, "It looks so real..."
[Because it is bionic.]
"This is amazing." Sunshine breathed.
The dog’s eyes_ which had been closed_ lit up in a soft blue glow. Its head lifted and the dopey eyes found hers. "Good day, Repairman Sunshine."
Sunshine gasped dramatically. "It talks... WONDERFUL." She had expected barking, not a calm soft voice of a wise old woman.
The system continued explaining, as politely emotionless as ever. [The dog was coded to obey your commands only. Every part of its body can also be used as a weapon. It can track scents like a normal dog.
But most importantly, it has a universal radar capable of detecting danger within a radius of ten thousand kilometers. If sent anywhere on a solo mission or errand, it can transmit videos and images to you or the command center in real time.
As long as you train it, the dog can operate devices like cars, phones and other electronics.]
Sunshine blinked. Then blinked again. "That," she said with full seriousness, "A ten-thousand-kilometer radar. Now that is something I needed. Saves me from having to buy one."
[You also get yourself 200 points for upgrading the hammer.]
Sunshine placed a hand dramatically on her chest. "So, I still have points. Thank you, system. I was about to become even cheaper than before. A broke repairman is useless."
She reached out and patted the dog’s head_ only for it to tilt away sharply like someone dodging unsolicited affection.
"I do not like being touched on the head," the dog said gruffly.
Sunshine froze. "Ah. Of course you don’t. Consent is important. My apologies."
It ignored her.
She wondered if dogs in general did not like her or bionic robot dogs were just aloof in nature.
She cleared her throat. "Hmm... what shall I call you? I was thinking something like Harry, Dex, Charlie, Max, Luna, Zoe...."
"Hunter 0008," the dog cut in. There was horror in its voice which was followed by a bark. It almost looked offended by her suggestions.
Sunshine folded her lips as if trying not to laugh. "Let’s just go with Hunter."
The dog nodded in approval.
"Are you male or female?" She asked.
"Female." It responded and then proceeded to turn its back on her as if that was enough chitchat for the day.
Sunshine grinned. A bionic dog with an attitude, radar and weapons. She couldn’t wait to show him off_especially to Nimo, who bragged nonstop about Dash like Dash was the greatest creation the universe had ever seen.
She forgot so quickly how Dash had abandoned her when the meteors fell.
That bragging would be brought to an end today. With a proud grin stretching across her face, Sunshine exited the space with Hunter at her heels. The two emerged from the work room with chins pointed high like a queen and her high-tech guard dog ready to conquer whatever came next.
Sunshine proudly introduced Hunter to Tank first, since he was in the work room.
Tank scanned the new arrival with a whir of gears, then announced in his usual dead-serious tone, "New unit detected. Classification: Dog.
Skill level: unknown.
Potential threat: minimal."
Then he said, "One of us is enough around here."
Hunter responded by giving Tank a single side-eye that declared she was unimpressed and not interested or threatened.
Sunshine clapped her hands. "Look at you two bonding already_ a brotherhood of machines!"
Tank ignored that statement completely, just like Hunter.
Then Tank said to Sunshine, "Lisha is waiting for you in the living room. I put out tissues and wine. If Ariel asks where the wine came from, exclude me from your response."
Sunshine was lost. Was the robot afraid of her eleven-year-old human son? Or did it just like being everyone’s hero and never the villain?
She blinked and her thoughts traveled. Lisha? Is she here to demand for a share of the proceeds from the suits or is this about that damn broadcast again?
Slowly, she walked to the living room with Hunter following like a personal bodyguard.
But the moment she reached the living room, she paused. Lisha was indeed there_ however, she wasn’t alone.
Zulu was behind her, peeking out from the back of Lisha’s shirt like a terrified toddler hiding behind their mother.
Sunshine almost laughed at the sight. Zulu’s feathers were puffed, eyes wide, beak trembling like Sunshine had traumatized her emotionally, physically, spiritually, and academically.
"Lisha," she started in a cheerful voice. "I take it that you are here to thank me."
Lisha folded her arms tightly, glaring. "Suni, how could you do that to Zulu?" Her tone was accusing enough to make Sunshine wonder if she had done something else that was bad other that threatening Zulu this morning.
Sunshine folded her hands in front of her body. "What did I do now?"
Lisha’s eyes widened with deep, dramatic betrayal. "You assaulted Zulu!"
Sunshine’s jaw dropped. "Assault!? I asserted my position as base leader! And I reminded her that if she ever blackmailed me again_ like YOU and I discussed_ I would punish her. That is not assault; that is leadership. What is it with you Quinns and vilifying me whenever an animal cries?"
Zulu squeaked so loudly that Hunter stepped in front of Sunshine.
"WHAT!? Lisha, how could you betray me!?" Zulu flapped onto Lisha’s shoulder like a heartbroken princess seeking refuge. "I thought I was your best friend."
Lisha shook her head so fast her red wig nearly slapped Zulu off her shoulder. "No, no, no! I said we needed to put you in your place, not that she should attack you!"
Sunshine pinched the bridge of her nose. "I didn’t attack anyone! Honestly, at this point, the two of you deserve each other. Your relationship is fully healed, I take it."
"Of course it is," Zulu said proudly, lifting her chin. "You tried to spoil it, but you failed purple." She even posed dramatically on Lisha’s shoulder like she was secure in her backing.
Sunshine scoffed loudly.
"I see I am back to being purple already." Sunshine scoffed. "Let me make this clear, from now on, if you two have problems, leave me out of them. Now Zulu, do you have any news on the Watchers?"
Zulu tossed her head. "If I had news, I’d pass it through Lisha. From now on, I deal with her and only her."
Sunshine smirked, pulling something from behind her back. "Lisha does not have this." She raised a small pack of melon seeds_ the good ones from the food court_ the ones Zulu loved.
The parrot froze. Her pupils dilated.
Sunshine twirled the packet. "Well?"
Zulu caved instantly. "Hector said the watchers have picked interest in me. He thinks they know I can talk to you."
Sunshine’s face morphed. "Who is Hector?"
"Mrs. Tuchi’s frog," both Lisha and Zulu answered in perfect unison like a choir. They also had the same look in their eyes: dismayed.
"How could you forget his name?" Zulu asked her. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"No offense Zulu but if you were not useful to me, I would not remember your name either." She replied. Sunshine rubbed her forehead. "Zulu... you need to be careful. If the Watchers have noticed you, that’s not something to joke about."
Zulu lowered her head, genuinely anxious now. "I know. That’s why I’m planning to hide at Hadrian’s house for now. We should see if he can make me invisible. If I can’t be seen, I have nothing to fear. "
Sunshine nodded slowly. As long as it was not her house, she was okay with it. As for Hadrian, all she could do was wish him luck.
