Chapter 452: Dimension K.

At around lunch time, Sunshine spontaneously decided to pay a visit to the kid’s squad training room. It was buzzing with youthful energy, children twelve and below were darting between obstacles.

They were dressed in their swat gear, some carrying weights of different sizes. Every child on the squad was determined to prove their worth.

At the side was Ariel and Dominic Steward. Dominic seemed to be giving advise while Ariel barked orders at his squad.

The presence of Ala Steward on the kids’ squad explain the presence of Dominic. The little girl was out there, small but sharp eyed. Her movements were precise as she followed a team leader.

"Ariel, your mom is here." A man from the medic team shouted.

All the children stopped mid-drill, turning to look at Sunshine.

"Lunch break." She declared, gesturing at the food cart of lunch boxes that Day was pushing inside. Her voice was gentle but commanding enough to make the children abandon their positions.

They swarmed around her like a pack of hungry wolves, grateful for the meal which was rice, beef or chicken balls, fruit and cookies. And juice boxes.

Ariel walked slower, his heart leaping a little faster than expected. Like other children, he had longed for days when his mother would come to school, and he could show her off to his friends.

Amber never came.

Sunshine often came. He was beginning to get used to it. He wanted to run forward and hug her, but he remembered his position in the eyes of his teammates and held back.

When he received his food, he nodded and said, "Thanks mom," His shoulders were straight as he feigned aloofness if it were routine for her to do this daily.

Sunshine smiled and pinched his cheek. "You are welcome swee....." She stopped herself and pulled back her hand.

She had seen the joy in his eyes, and he was lingering around her longer than necessary. His actions were enough to tell the joy he was feeling.

But she couldn’t resist ruffling his hair. "Eat up captain."

He let her hand sit on his head for a few seconds, counting to thirty in his head before pulling away. Sunshine nodded at Ala once.

The girl nodded back and proceeded to sit next to Ariel.

Sunshine kissed Ariel on the cheek, turned and left.

"Come on mom." He whined.

Sunshine laughed as she walked away. "Love you kiddo."

No matter what Dr. Flora said, she would hug her kid, kiss him on the cheeks, pinch them and hug him.

She did not look back, so she didn’t see the small smile tugging at Ariel’s lips.

As she walked to the car, the system chimed to alert Sunshine about opening of another world

[World: Dimension K

Classification: Upside-down world

Estimated danger: Very high]

Sunshine blinking hard as shock slid straight into fear and she muttered, "Upside down world? Estimated danger is very high? That is a terrible combination.

No... no, absolutely not," her voice firm as she added, "I’m not going, I don’t care what this world has to offer."

The system paused before replying evenly, [Normally I would agree,] then continued, [But if you want to make the Reddix pills, you will have to go.]

The words hit like ice water as Sunshine wiped cold sweat from her temple and whispered, "...Phimma Bloom petals," lifting her head to glare at the screen as she asked, "It’s there, isn’t it?"

The system confirmed her suspicions, [Yes, the petals can be found in the Breathing Forest.]

Sunshine scoffed under her breath and said, "Breathing... even the name of the forest sounds dangerous," only for the system to respond without emotion.

[It is,] before adding, [However, you will be granted two escort passes. You may take two people with you, and if you manage to get the petals, you will be able to sell them at a high price because they have a high demand. If you bring back some plants, you won’t ever have to return to this world. Unless you want to.]

Sunshine fell silent for a heartbeat before exhaling slowly and murmuring, "Two escorts and money changes things," her thoughts racing as she considered who to take with her.

Carson would be perfect...his blood could be an advantage and his habit of sensing danger before it arrives. Elio and his eyes...that could be an advantage. On the other hand, having s pyrokinetic is never a bad choice so maybe Alfred.

The most important decision was trust. She could not just trust anyone with the secret of her space. And she could not risk taking Hades along, even if he could be trusted.

That left her with the Fawk siblings.

She activated the radio and said sharply, "Nimo, Alfred, my office in ten minutes, bring your weapons."

Then, she hurried back to her office and started sorting through what she would need. "I will be needing the stabilizer fragment, compass, hammer, noise bombs, dragonoid, acid grenade... dear lord help me."

Someone knocked on her door, so she came out of the space and opened it.

Nimo entered first and frowned, "You look tense, what is it?"

Alfred followed close behind with a frown and saying, "I know that look. It is her bad news face. Like the one she had before she pulled us into an abandoned construction building to look around. Do you remember what happened Nimo because..."

Sunshine held her hand up, "No time Alfred. Just stay close and don’t panic especially you, Alfred. We are taking a trip."

Reality suddenly folded in on itself and Alfred shouted, "SUNI_" before the world inverted, colors bleeding backward and gravity twisting violently as he staggered and gasped, "What the fuck is happening?"

Their feet found nothing, and light swallowed them up slowly.

Alfred sucked in a sharp breath and screamed, "Why the fuck are you so calm Nimo?"

"Because this is not my first rodeo." She shouted back. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

And then they arrived.

They found themselves on the street in a city where buildings hung upside down clinging to nothing, their walls expanding and contracting like lungs while windows blinked open and shut and streets rearranged themselves whenever they were observed too long.

The air indecisive and unstable as gravity tugged sideways, upward, then vanished entirely, Alfred slapped at the air as if he was swimming, fighting against the current. His eyes glanced past a cathedral flexing like a living thing before muttering.

"Okay someone please explain to me what is happening?" He cried out.

Nimo swore under his breath when they started to drop. "Suni, I have to admit, I like Veldek better that this place."

Sunshine nodded in agreement." Same here."

She reached into her space and took out the Dimension Stabilizer Fragment she had salvaged from Boulder Creek. It had enough power for the three of them to use. After she activated it, they found themselves balancing steadily like everything else

Nausea vanished and pressure eased, enabling them to stand firm while the city continued to writhe around them unable to affect them.

Alfred was still panicking none the less, arms flailing because everything felt off. As if he would plunge to death at any moment. "Suni, what in the death trap is this?

Nimo straightened and muttered, "This feels like a dream. We are hanging like bats. Are we supposed to walk like this?"

Alfred looked at the human like aliens bypassing them. They were tall, with wide feet. Most disturbing were their eyes, for they had four of each! Two in front, two at the back!

With ease, they were moving comfortably upside down or sideways relative to local gravity.

"Can they see us?" Alfred hissed.

Sunshine did not know either, so she asked the system.

[I have activated an illusion around you. Your external appearances have been adjusted to match dominant local species. I can deactivate it if you want to...]

"No! I...I mean we are okay." Sunshine said quietly. Then she said to Alfred, "We look like them."

Alfred looked at Sunshine in horror, a thousand questions lingered on his tongue, but he asked none. Now is not the time, he decided. Leaving this freaky world was.

The buildings changed position again, Nimo wondered how they would navigate the place.

"Oh no..." Alfred wailed.

Nimo hissed at him. "Stop drawing attention to us and focus. We are here for a mission. Strap your boots soldier."

"I am not a soldier." He hissed at her.

"Why did we bring him?" Nimo asked Sunshine.
