Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.-Chapter 453: Worse than an apocalyptic world.
"Because we needed a third party we could both trust." Sunshine replied, pulling out the Kylor Compass whose needle bent and warped violently.
"To the Breathing forest." Sunshine said to the compass,
Alfred squinted at it, "Are you talking to a compass? Is it even supposed to spin like that? What kind of wizardry is this?"
Nimo shook her head.
Sunshine raised one foot and took a single step. "Let’s go. Adventure awaits us."
She led them to a train station whose platforms were suspended in coiled rings. It was a hub where the creatures of this world and visitors drifted from one place to another.
It was an interesting mixture of species. The largest number of travelers seemed to be insectoid merchants.
"System, where are all these insectoids going?" she asked.
[Same place you are.]
The signs in the train station rearranged themselves, written in languages recognized by whoever looked at them.
Alfred and Nimo did not understand. Sunshine did. The train was going to The Breathing Forest. She paid the fee in galaxy coins, dropping them into a machine that spat out three tickets. And then, they climbed aboard.
The train had no seats. They had to stand through the journey, staring at other passengers that stared right back at them. For the earthlings, it was an uncomfortable experience. The beings of this planet had too many eyes!
Alfred glanced over his shoulder a bit nervously at a fox-like creature whose body was made out of colored crystals, it kept growling at them like it knew they were imposters. Lucky for them its owner was holding onto its chain tightly.
"Su....Su Su..." He hissed, gestured at the fox.
She shook her head.
Nimo grabbed his hand, squeezing it hard. "Relax bro, enjoy the ride.
"System, is that supposed to be a pet?" A curious Sunshine asked.
[Prism fox, and yes it can sense that you are aliens.]
Sunshine scoffed, not once did she think that one day she would be referred to as an alien.
The journey continued for ten minutes, its speed faster than sound. And soon, they arrived at the edge of the city. There was some minor shoving during the evacuation, but they made it out slowly.
While others fanned out into different vehicles, Sunshine glanced at her compass and gestured for Alfred and Nimo to keep up. While they walked, Alfred got the chance to ask his questions about how Sunshine was able to move between worlds.
"It’s a superhuman ability." She lied effortlessly.
Alfred shook his head. "Another one! How many abilities have you awakened? How are you the only one that had awakened multiple abilities?"
Sunshine answered without slowing, "I do not know Alfred, the same way you cannot explain why you awakened as a pyrokinetic. Could it be that you liked setting fires secretly?"
He frowned. "If anything, I have been afraid of fire my whole life."
"And Suni was always afraid of all things alien and ghost." Nimo jumped in. "That explains it. The powers one awakens are related to their fears."
Alfred frowned again. He did not think so. There had to be another explanation.
They paused as a small, inverted storm rose, lightning tore upward from the soil in violent spirals latching onto clouds while thunder detonated before the flash.
Alfred spun around, eyes wide. He squatted and pinned his feet to the ground, but the spirals were determined to pull him into the storm. Sunshine stretched her hands and caught him, she was strong_ too strong in Alfred’s opinion. But he was grateful for it and he held on until the storm passed.
"Thanks, Suni." He said to her after it passed. He looked around. Other people seemed to be just fine. The storm had only affected him! "What kind of shitty luck am I having today?" he muttered.
Sunshine adjusted her clothes. "We should keep moving."
Hardly had they taken a few steps when it began to rain out of the blue. Drops of rain streamed skyward in sharp needle-thin columns as metal screamed and inverted lightning yanked viciously at them.
The system availed with kinetic reflector shields that used a gravity pulse to repel the droplets before they could touch the shield.
Strong winds accompanied the rain, Alfred’s flames flared instinctively as he shouted, "Nimo, it’s pulling you,"
Sunshine wrapped two hands around Nimo’s waist, and the wind went off with her umbrella. "Fuck!" She cursed. "You owe me 200,000 dollars."
"That thing cost that much?" Nimo asked, bewildered.
The rain stopped, shattering into steam which was carried by the wind.
Alfred coughed, "This weather is officially worse than apocalypse weather."
Nimo answered, "I agree,"
"Me three." Came Sunshine’s sullen voice.
They continued to move, Sunshine explained why they were going through so many lengths to get the Phimma bloom petals. "We need the reddix pills because the air will soon be too toxic for breathing. Infections will become common. I can provide many things, but an endless supply of oxygen is not one. Especially not for a large population."
"Then we better get those damn petals then because I like breathing without the aid of mask. And I would prefer it if my lungs were not infected." Alfred said.
The air shifted once again, it almost felt like the sky was about to collapse.
A voice from a drone above said, "You are entering the territory of The Shifting beast sea. Cover your heads to keep from being soaked, accidentally."
The three humans looked up. An entire mass of black water clinging to the sky was above them. It was like an ocean but in reverse, pushing across the wind. Massive droplets broke loose as giant fish with snapping teeth lunged at those moving below.
[Those are pressure piranhas that hunt through the droplets, host you are in danger. Now would be a good time to increase your speed.]
Sunshine brought upgraded hoverboards from the space and gave one to each of her friends. She also gave them helmets and raincoats.
"Just grab hold of the hoverboard, like you are surfing." She said.
One droplet with a piranha plummeted toward them with the weight of a falling city.
Nimo shouted, "Incoming."
Alfred raised one hand instinctively, flames roared upward as he yelled, "I got it," only for Sunshine to thrust both hands forward and free the droplet mid fall.
Alfred blinked, "Or she’s got it,"
The ice showed signs of cracking and more droplets were falling. Figures were swarming through the air, capturing them.
While they all wanted to watch and maybe learn a thing or two, time was not on their side. They had a mission to fulfill. The three humans surged forward. Alfred faithfully obeyed Sunshine’s instructions, holding on to the hoverboard for dear life.
Nimo was more daring, squatting on hers. She flew by him, cackling loudly. "Even grandma would be faster than you Alfred."
Alfred just held on tighter to the hoverboard. Surviving the flight on this crazy dangerous planet mattered more than proving how brave he was.
They made it out safely, reaching the territory that led into the forest, the Echo mountains.
"I do not like the name." Alfred said.
"You and me both." Sunshine answered.
But none the less, they forged forward like many others that were going into the mountains. They were tall, with stone peaks that hang like inverted fangs. Scorch marks had scarred them. Holes in their sides and ridges told stories of great battles that had left a mark. It was a place were sound betrayed movement.
[Keep your voices down or you will awaken things that should remain asleep.] The system warned Sunshine.
She relayed the warning to Alfred and Nimo. They noticed that others were silent, some moving slowly as if they were thieves in the most guarded museum in the world.
Alfred whispered, "Maybe we should go around the mountain."
Sunshine heard her own breath echo before she inhaled sharply. "We must follow the compass."
"Shit!" Nimo screamed suddenly, a bit too loudly. It was not intentional. But it was disastrous.
