Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.-Chapter 491: The confrotation...2
Hades drew in a deep breath. They needed to prioritize. First, deal with Fifi, forever and then tackle Amber.
One of the guards opened the car door and the four children Amber had brought poured out, one by one.
Suddenly, Fifi moved with surprising speed and strength. She grabbed one of the children and held her throat at knife point. "Enough of this boring family drama. I don’t care who Hades sleeps with or who is the rightful mother of these brats. I just need to make a quick and peaceful exist."
Chaos erupted. Guards shouted and started evacuating the other children. Superhumans swooped in, weapons drawn on Fifi. Hades surged forward. "Put the knife down and let the boy go Fifi."
"Don’t hurt her." Lisha shouted.
Major Elio’s finger tightened on the trigger of his gun. This was exactly what he had been hoping to avoid. Family drama getting in the way of business.
"Where did you get a knife?" Hadrian questioned.
Fifi snorted. "Well Amber forgot to frisk me. She has always been a stupid bat. We all thought it was all the drinking but now, she is sober and still stupid. You messed up a lot when you married this one Hades. Now give me a car and let me drive out of here or this girl dies. I swear to God, even if you kill me, I will take her with me." She snarled, voice sharp as broken glass.
The girl sobbed loudly. The Quinn’s, soldiers, superhumans, guards and other on lookers stood in a tense semicircle. Many weapons were raised but no one dared to make a move just yet.
For some, it was because they knew who she was. She was a Quinn. Perhaps by killing her, they would incur the wrath of her family later. So, it was best to be cautious.
For some, she was best captured alive and interrogated. The list of missing children was still long. Amber had only brought four. Fifi probably knew where the rest had been sold to or been buried.
For others, the bounty would only be given if she was alive. A dead Fifi was a useless one.
From Father Nicodemus’ shoulder, Zulu squawked, "Lady you are going nowhere, even if I have to peck your eyes out myself to stop you. And when I do, that bounty is mine."
"That’s right.." A voice called out from the back of the crowd. "You are not walking, driving or rolling out of here." It was Leah, and she pushed her way to the front slowly. Deep down, her hope was renewed. Thanks to the bounty, Fifi had been captured.
That same bounty would bring them Moon Raine. Sunshine had been right about having many eyes doing the job for them.
"Be smart Fifi." Sunshine warned, voice dangerously thin as she was running out of patience.
Fifi’s lips curled into a sneer. "Shut the fuck up Suni. You think you’ve won just because you have me cornered. You think by catching me, you are some kind of big hero." She laughed. "Let me tell you the truth, you are nothing and you have accomplished nothing. The world is already broken. There are monsters out there much worse than me. You have been outside, you have seen it for yourself. The strong reign and the weak must kneel and do as we desire. Children, they are the weakest of all." She pressed the knife harder against the girl’s throat, drawing a thin line of blood. "So what if I sold a few of them? Their parents can just make more anyway and when those parents are hungry, they can eat their children and make new ones."
The crowd gasped.
And then, before anyone could move, a shot rang out.
The bullet tore through Fifi’s arm, leaving a very large hole in her hand, sending the knife clattering to the floor. She screamed, clutching at the prefect round circle which was about the size of an eye socket. The child stumbled free, running to Father Nicodemus’ waiting arms.
Major Elio, the shooter, stepped forward. His eyes glowed faintly, declaring what people had long suspected about his supervision. His aim had been perfect as always. "How I wish to put a bullet straight through your other eyes. But I will save the pleasure of ending your sick reign of terror to Sunshine." He said, voice calm but carrying the weight of finality.
Fifi stumbled back, blood dripping from her hand. "You think you can stop me? You think---"
But she never finished.
All this while, the mob that the guards had keeping at bay had doubled. Word of Fifi’s capture had been spread through phone calls and parents whose children had been stolen, ripped out of their arms and lost to Derone and Fifi’s empire of trafficking had gathered. They broke past the guards with a fury that had been festering for months. Some had come carrying weapons: pipes, knives, stones, rolling pins, cooking pans, even bare fists.
They descended on Fifi with their weapons which had been hardened by grief.
"Stop!" Father Nicodemus shouted. "We have her. We need to question her."
Warning shots were fired in the air. But the mob did not even look back for a single second. The superhumans were ready to step in, but Sunshine stopped them. "Let them vent."
Nimo whispered, "But they will kill her.
Sunshine replied coldly. "Good." She looked around and noticed none of the Quinns were stepping in to help Fifi either. The older ones were taking the children away from the scene. Grandpa Quinn even spat on the ground on disgust before turning his wheelchair away.
Perhaps, if Fifi had not held a child at knife point and kept her mouth shut, they would have felt sorry for her. But her actions had sealed her fate.
Fifi was completely swallowed by the tide of bodies, her screams swallowed by chaos. The sound of fists striking flesh, of metal and wood on bone echoed through the air.
Father Nicodemus flew away, disappointment in his eyes. He had seen enough to know that justice, in this fractured world, was no longer clean.
Major Elio looked to the side, focusing his eyes on the wall. He wondered if he would have been like one of the parents in the mob if his daughter was stolen and sold as food by Fifi. He sneered. Of course he would be like them, in fact, he would be worse.
Leah stopped behind Sunshine, eyes on the mob, filled with a hatred as if she too had lost a child to Fifi. "Are you really going to let them kill her?"
