Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.-Chapter 490: The confrotation....1
In the outer area of the wall, tension was really thick, thicker than the mist that refused to leave Ferry Island. Hades arrived, flanked by his cousins, Sunshine and their three sons who kept clinging to her.
Hades’ eyes hardened when he saw Amber. It was her, truly. She looked skinnier and more hardened than he remembered. She was also filthy in a way that would have had her booking out an entire spa for a weekend to clean all of her pores. "You should not have come here."
Amber stepped forward, chin high. Hades looked just as good as she remembered and the babysitter, she was the perfect image of a gold digger that had bribed her sons with stories and candy and then stepped into her shoes to deck the fancy jewels as the new mistress and mother, beloved and trusted. "You are raising my sons with her? With the babysitter? Wow...Hades...just wow."
Hadrian hissed.
Warren pulled him back.
More Quinn family members filled the area, even Avenn, Ambrosia and Brigitte. Grandpa Quinn landed from the sky, having been flown over by Nimo in an exo suit. Nimo and others started dispersing the crowd of onlookers and eavesdroppers, leaving only cousins, aunts, uncles---all the Quinns that had rushed over to witness the spectacle.
A tall man stepped in front of Amber and smiled at Hades. "Apologies for my wife, she did not mean to offend anyone. She is just tired, hungry and angry at the world and everything in it."
Gaps rippled through the Quinns at the Elijah’s introduction. Their eyes widened even more when they saw the two blonde haired boys peeking curiously behind his legs. Amber had not just remarried, she had more kids!
"Oh my..." Zulu squawked from Father Nicodemus’s shoulder. "This drama is going to be the highlight of my show today. The return of the runway ex-wife with two ugly hatchlings."
Father Nicodemus had his own reasons to gasp then. As did a few other people that heard the parrot.
Hades crossed his arms. "I don’t beat women...unless they are trying to harm my family. Calling my wife the babysitter is considered harming my family. I will not hesitate to slap you if you continue to be disrespectful Amber."
Amber scoffed.
Elijah squeezed her arm, silently reminding her of the reasons as to why that had come all the way to Westbrook. Picking a fight with her ex-husband was not one of the reasons. Angering the woman who was now his wife was stupid.
Amber smiled at the boys. "I brought the fugitive; I came to claim the bounty. I would also like to see my sons."
Sunshine’s face twisted and she took a step back. squeezing Castiel a little tighter. Rori patted Sunshine’s back. "It’s never going to happen."
Hades said as much to Amber with just one word. "No."
Amber stomped her foot. "They are my sons." She glanced at the children and smiled, but they had no smiles for her.
Sunshine handed Castiel to Rori and stepped forward, her breath misting the warm air. Frost crept along the ground where she walked. "They are my sons. They are safe with me like they never were with you. You abandoned them when you left. You don’t get to claim them now."
The confrontation hung in the air, heavy and sharp. Neither side was going to back down. The superhumans who were pretending to guard the area shifted uneasily.
It was Zulu that broke the tension. The parrot squawked loudly, "Bitter ex-wife alert! Babysitter accusations. Place your bets folks....." the squawking was cut off.
Father Nicodemus was covering the parrot’s beak.
Amber glared at the bird. "Why is there a talking parrot here calling me a bitter ex-wife?" 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"She is a radio host," Avenn said dryly. "She keeps the morale up and says the truth. If you are not bitter, why all the anger? Why are you sizing up Sunshine like you are preparing for a fight." He scoffed. "Whatever she was in the past, that is all over. She is now the official Mrs. Quinn, Hades Quinn’s only wife. You have no ties to the Quinn family anymore, legally or otherwise."
Elijah jumped in quickly. "We did not come for trouble. We came because we brought a fugitive and we are seeking our rewards. On the flyer, you promised money, supplies and safety. Take Fiona Quinn and do as you please."
Fifi had been awake for five minutes, laying on the ground, pretending to be asleep. She opened her eyes, staring at Sunshine with a hatred that rivaled Amber’s. "What’s wrong Suni the maid? Can’t take the truth? You stole Amber’s husband and poisoned my nephew’s mind against me. It is time you return that which does not belong to you."
Sunshine laughed. "And what does not belong to me?"
Fifi sat up straighter. "Hades for starters. This base too, it belongs to our Quinn family."
Major Elio shot Fifi in the leg. "Enough with the absurdity." He bellowed through her scream. "You are child trafficker and murderer. You do not get a say in any of the affairs of this base. Also, Hades is not property. Nobody owns him."
"I do." Sunshine said loudly.
Hades smiled. "That’s right, she does. She owns my heart, my soul and my gold."
Major Elio almost rolled his eyes. That was not the point he was trying to make. He was simply trying to hasten up the awkward family reunion, deal with Fifi and cross off an enemy of their base. An enemy that had proven slippery.
Meanwhile, the boys whispered amongst themselves over the shoulders of their uncle Hadrian and grandparents. Earl nudged Ariel. "Is that really our mom?"
Ariel shook his head. "Sunshine is our mom. that woman is nobody. I will take care of this; you and Cass should go back home and have breakfast."
Earl whispered. "She looks so angry. I am not going anywhere; I am going to protect mom like we promised. Let Cass go back home."
Aunt Vonita, Rori’s younger sister fanned herself dramatically, despite wearing one of the high-tech solar suits which was keeping her body cool. "She actually remarried and none of us knew about it. Who did she marry...her dentist?"
"I am not a dentist." Elijah said. "I am Elijah Harrington the fourth, these are my sons, Elijah Harrington the seventh and ninth."
"Oh, good lord." Ambrosia rolled her eyes. "Who named them?"
Amber’s face reddened. "Enough! We didn’t come here to be mocked. I came to reunite with my sons and get what I am owed."
But the humor wouldn’t die. Aunt Vonita sneezed loudly, startling everyone. "Allergies," she said with a shrug. "I have always been allergic to the smell of Amber. Even in the apocalypse when she smells like a wet dog and roasted rat, it remains the same. Stay away from this one Suni, champagne scented perfumes can be catchy." She pinched her smell.
Lisha cracked a smile and whispered to Nimo, "I don’t think this is how Amber envisioned things going."
Nimo whispered back. "And neither did Suni because the hammer had not yet made a special appearance."
