Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.-Chapter 58: Carson’s fate on the base.
Chapter 58: Carson’s fate on the base.
Carson was waiting to see Sunshine’s jaw dropping but none of that happened. At most, her eyebrows twitched a little. He wondered what was going through his mind.
Sunshine figured out his ability basing on what he said. He could regenerate. It was the same ability Nimo had in her last life. Both of them had been at Fort Slide base.
Was there a connection between the mist there and regeneration abilities?
"I can show you, if you are doubting me." Carson said. He took a knife from his pocket and sliced his hand. The wound healed before the knife was put down on the table.
"You have not seen the apocalypse survival guide brochure, have you?" Sunshine asked him.
He shook his head. He had been busy trying to save his life and then his sister’s life as well, so he had not stopped to look out for brochures.
"One of the rules for surviving an apocalypse is keeping your abilities to yourself unless they are the kind that cannot be hidden." She told him.
Anna Belle Carson suddenly sniffled. "You seem to be just like him. I wanted him to heal all those poor souls, but he refused. He knocked me out and left the abbey without any remorse." Ana wiped her wet cheeks; she still condemned her brother’s actions. "All those nuns, the children, the elderly."
"He did the right thing." Sunshine said, without an ounce of pity on her face for the sick people that Sister Anna was mentioning.
"But..." Anna started.
Sunshine cut her off quickly. "Imagine if he had healed those people and they told other people about it. Soon your brother would have a bounty on his back. It is not just the government that will want him but rich individuals too. Some will want to eat his flesh, others will want to drink his blood. Your brother did the right thing."
Ana Belle heard all that was said, but it did not comfort her. If it was the right thing, why did it feel wrong?
Sunshine shook her head as she observed Anna Belle. She had met many priests and sisters like her, real men of God. They were always sitting ducks because they wanted to save everyone, the good and bad.
They would have to look out for her just in case she went crazy and tried to open the gates for every survivor in the world!
She could not be allowed to go on any missions, or she would just get others killed with her holy attitude.
Sunshine looked at Carson. "Your ability is called regeneration; it is not healing as you cannot heal others on a large scale or you risk being weakened yourself. Your cells are only meant to heal your body. What you did for your sister is called cell sharing. I am guessing you shared blood or saliva."
"Blood." Carson bellowed quickly. He even took a step away from his sister just in case there was a perverted misunderstanding about their relationship.
While Nimo laughed, Sunshine went on to explain Carson’s abilities and weaknesses.
"You shared regenerative cells specifically. The downside is that your sister will have your memories and take on some of your traits. Don’t be shocked when she ditches the nun dress for military boots and cargo pants."
Sister Anna Belle was aghast. It was as if she had been told to go and hug the devil.
"Don’t worry sister, no matter what you are wearing as long as you keep the veil on your head and the rosary around your neck, nobody will doubt your profession." Sunshine assured her.
That was the standard look of nuns in the apocalypse. Pants with pockets made it easy to run and escape, hide weapons, carry food, medicine or other supplies. Sister Anna would adjust. Maybe being more like her brother would be good for her.
"Does that mean that we can stay?" Carson asked.
Sunshine smiled. "As long as you follow the rules and don’t go around sharing anymore of your blood recklessly." She answered. "Also find a sector where you can work, I will recommend the medical sector Mr. Carson." She stood up, looking ready to leave.
"But...but I know nothing about medical stuff I am more of a guns and security guy." Carson answered."
Nimo held on to Sunshine’s arm. "For now, he should stay indoors because secretary Ceaser’s men are still hunting for him. If drones fly over and get a picture of him, they will knock on our gates. We do not want them to come and disturb our peace. He can work online, monitoring a certain section of the base." She made a suggestion which everyone agreed to.
From there Sunshine and Nimo went to the registration office in the third wall, making a beeline to where the medic desk was. Nurses were inputting medical information into the system.
"Nurse Kendall, are there other people other than Carson Warnock whose blood work turned out inconclusive?" She asked, leaning on the desk.
Creasing her brows briefly, nurse Kendall relaxed her face. "I was actually about send you a report about that, I think that there was a problem with the blood group analyzer when it came to Carson Warnock. That machine just couldn’t classify his blood group or tell us anything about his blood." She explained, pulling up the results. "I will check him again later on."
"No need to check him again but please inform me immediately each time you come across someone whose blood cannot be scanned."
"Will do boss." Nurse Kendall replied.
They left and walked back to the car quickly and Nimo took the wheel, driving them back to the inner wall.
Nimo broke the silence in the car. "Thank you for letting Carson stay, I hope that Alfred will make it here on time." She let out a sharp sigh, her brother had traveled on a work trip outside the country, and he was on his way back. Whether he made it to the base was unknown.
Sunshine knew that Alfred had died in the last apocalypse. Nimo never talked about it and so Sunshine could not advise her on the matter. "Well, there is a safe place waiting for him here when he makes it. Tell him to hire a chopper and land at the foot of the mountain. But tomorrow is not a good day for flying because that is when the meteorites are falling."
Nimo parked the car and sent the message to Alfred. He did not respond immediately.
"Come on, I will introduce you to my husband." Sunshine figured that her friend needed a distraction and decided to provide it.
Nimo cheered up immediately and she took Sunshine’s hand. She was finally going to meet the great Hades Quinn.
They found him in the information center of the inner wall. The place looked busy, newcomers had converged there.
He waved at them and signaled for Owen to take over for him.
Hades walked to them, and they stepped to the side, leaving the wide doorway free. "You must be Nimo; my wife has told me so much about you. I hope that you are settling in well." He acknowledged Sunshine’s friend.
"Yes sir." Nimo responded, she did not know if it was okay to address him by his name since he was her friend’s husband.
"You can call me Hades." He told her with a charming smile that was meant to disarm. "Was it your idea for the soldiers to pick up their weapons and go hunting in the forest?"
