Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 97: Rising Tension
Chapter 97: Rising Tension
Elena checked the group chat, filled with residents voicing their frustrations. They were alarmed by a video of one resident showing his faucet with no water coming out.
Many quickly checked to see if the situation was true, but unfortunately, they found that the water was indeed unavailable now.
Some felt anxious, as water was essential, and its absence disrupted their daily lives. They could manage without electricity, but living without water was a different story.
Unit 1602: "The water is gone now! How am I supposed to use the bathroom? I haven’t even stored enough!"
Unit 1301: "What? No more water? I’m relying on this tap water for drinking!"
Unit 1201: "Then you can order bottled water from the supermarket. Why so dramatic?"
Unit 1102: "Gosh, the supermarket below won’t deliver goods right now. The water is rising, and their delivery service is overwhelmed. If you want to order anything, you’ll have to go down yourself."
Knowing that the supermarket wouldn’t deliver goods anymore, panic surged among the residents. Someone even asked in the group chat who was willing to go to the supermarket, offering to pay for their help.
A few were tempted by the proposal, but when someone described the dangerous conditions outside—the rising water and heavy rain—they quickly declined.
Unit 1501: "I just returned from the supermarket, and I have to say, the essential foods are running low. There were so many people there, so if you don’t buy now, the goods will definitely be out of stock. By the way, the water level at the waiting shed is quite high, and the heavy rain has intensified outside, making it really difficult to get through. If you decide to go down, make sure to go with someone. It’s much safer to travel in pairs and keep an eye on each other."
Unit 1501 warned them. Although the supermarket was just a short walk from their building, they still had to pass the waiting shed, which was now flooded. The heavy rain and rising water levels posed a serious risk, making navigation difficult and dangerous.
Unit 1201: "@1501 Did you order a lot?"
Unit 1501: "@1201 Yes. I suggest you guys hoard as much as you can now."
While reading the chat messages, Elena found that there were still people willing to inform others; morals are still intact, but for how long? As the situation worsened and resources dwindled, she couldn’t help but wonder if those individuals would hold up under pressure or later regret their willingness to help.
’I can’t blame him. He might be a good person. But now everyone knows he has stocked essentials on hand. Later, he might be the first targeted when food becomes scarce.’
Unit 1801: "@1501 You went there? Can you help us? We are elderly residents here and don’t have a way to go downstairs."
Unit 2002: "Yeah, we should help each other. Young people like you should lend a hand to us."
Now, they were resorting to moral kidnapping. Unfortunately, Unit 1501 did not reply. The people in the group chat grew angry, cursing him for being selfish and unresponsive.
Some quickly braved the typhoon to the nearby supermarket, understanding that this typhoon would likely linger longer than expected. They needed to gather what they could, fully aware that access to food and supplies might become limited in the coming days.
However, some remained nonchalant, believing that the typhoon would pass in a few days and that there was no need to panic.
Unit 2201: "Why are you spamming the group chat? This typhoon will pass. Stop this nonsense."
Seeing the message from the shameless old woman, some residents grew angry and began to curse at her.
Unit 2401: "Shut up! We don’t have water right now; why are you still so calm?"
Unit 2201: "@2401 Why are you angry with me? You’re the one who doesn’t have water because you didn’t store any, stupid."
Elena raised her brows in disbelief. Unit 2201 was the old woman who had been asking for compensation a while ago, and now she was stirring up more trouble in the group chat.
’Is she telling everyone she has a lot of water?’
Unit 2001: "Oh, so you have plenty of water. Can you share some with us?"
Unit 2201: "No way."
The old woman quickly went offline, afraid that they would pressure her to share her water.
Unit 2001: "Heh, how shameless! When she tries to take advantage of us, she always comes up with unbelievable reasons, but when asked in return, she has so many excuses to decline."
Unit 1701: "Did you guys know what happened to the manager? He hasn’t replied to us, or is he just unaware of what’s going on?"
Unit 1502: "Where is the manager, by the way? Can someone tell me which floor he’s on so I can try to knock on his door?"
Unit 1702: "Count me in."
Elena also thought about the manager. The last time he had messaged them, it was all about the power outage, and now the water was flooding the lobby. Shouldn’t he be the one calming these people and providing some guidance?
’What the heck is this manager plotting now?’

The manager smiled sinisterly as he glanced at the group chat; his plan was unfolding perfectly. With the government overwhelmed by the typhoon, the residents were left anxious and desperate, and he knew their vulnerability could be leveraged to his advantage.
He bided his time, patiently waiting for the right moment to act. It was crucial that he maintained his facade, allowing the residents to believe in him for now. When the time came to execute his plan, he wanted to ensure that he wouldn’t be suspected.
Unit 2501: "It came to me what happened in the lobby a while ago. The water has now flooded the lobby, and if the level keeps rising, the first floor might submerge. I propose that those on the lower floors evacuate to available units with no occupants, or if anyone is willing to help, please let those in need stay in your unit. We need to be unified in this disaster."
Everyone in the group chat ultimately chose to let those on the lower floors occupy the units with no residents. They knew that while helping those in need was noble, letting strangers into their homes came with risks.
Unit 1602: "Let them stay in the available units then"
Unit 1201: "I agree." +21 likes.
The discussion about the rising water had ended, and now the focus shifted to the sudden lack of water.
Unit 1002: "Manager, what happened to the water? Why has it suddenly stopped?"
Unit 2501: "I don’t have an answer for that. For now, use the rainwater and store as much as possible."
Unit 1201: "Are you kidding us, manager? Where are we supposed to fetch rainwater? There are no containers on the balcony to collect it! Plus, if we open the door to the balcony, the heavy rain and wind will just blow into our homes!"
Unit 2501: "That’s for you guys to use your imagination."
Knowing the manager’s response, everyone grew increasingly angry. Some residents even declared that they would fire him once the typhoon ended. The chat was filled with frustration and outrage as they expressed their dissatisfaction. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Meanwhile, the manager was sneering as he read the messages.
’Who would need this job? Once I rob everyone here and leave you with nothing, I can just slip away quietly, rich and unbothered.’
He smiled at the thought of having a lot of money.
He had been planning to rob the wealthy residents in Building C for a while. Fed up with their entitled attitudes and constant demands. He was once part of a notorious syndicate known for hijacking homes and sometimes killing their victims.
Although he had tried to change and find a decent job, the recent earthquake led the residents to increase their demands on him, pushing him to his limit. Frustrated and feeling unappreciated, he decided to reach out to his old friends from the syndicate to form a small team.
As the storm raged outside, he felt a rush of excitement. This was his chance to regain control and get back at those who had treated him like a servant. With the chaos of the typhoon as cover, he was ready to act, but he decided to hold off for a few more days.
"Manager, when are we going to rob them?" a member inquired.
"Soon, we’ll start in two days. We’ll target a unit with only a few people," the manager said, determined to ensure everything was in place before making his move.
He then added, "What did you find on the above floor?"
"Well, the 26th floor has a steel bar gate blocking the way. I tried to pry it open, but I got shocked; they put live wires around it."
"A steel bar gate? Why didn’t I know about this?" the manager asked, surprised.
"They just installed it a while ago," the member replied.
"Hmph, this is not what we discussed. Let’s confront them. We need to gauge their attitude this time," the manager said, his expression filled with anger.
The residents on the floor above were among the few he truly despised; their arrogance grated on him. He had merely asked if they would join the meeting, but they had reprimanded him instead. The embarrassment stung even more, knowing that many residents had overheard the exchange.
’What reprimanded him? They were just suggesting he hire more guards.’ If Ethan knew this manager’s thoughts, he would definitely smack him for his nonsense.
