Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 98: For what reason?
Chapter 98: For what reason?
Elena informed them about the situation and the interactions among the building residents. She told them that the government mandated the supermarkets to remain open 24 hours.
Unfortunately, the supermarket posted a closure notice on its page, stating that despite the government’s mandate to remain open, they would close as soon as water entered the store.
The management was concerned about the risk of flooding and the possibility of being stranded in the area.
Conflicts erupted as people understood that once the supermarket closed, they would have to travel farther to buy food supplies, prompting fights over essential items.
The supermarket faced a dilemma; despite having extra stock stored elsewhere, the rising floodwaters made it impossible to access those supplies.
Thankfully, the guard on duty intervened, halting the conflict. The crowd quickly backed down, aware of the law and the potential consequences of being banned.
After Elena shared the update, everyone nodded in understanding.
"Alright, everyone. Let’s head back and continue resting," Elena suggested, noting the early hour.
"Okay," Ethan replied. Then he turned to Oslo and Uncle Anthony. "By the way, how’s the situation on the 26th floor while you’ve been guarding it?"
Oslo and Uncle Anthony exchanged glances.
Oslo then spoke up. "From what I’ve observed, the floor below us exhibits some strange activity. I’ve noticed them covertly monitoring our steel gate at times."
"Who’s below us?" Ethan asked, his brow furrowing.
"The manager of this building," Oslo replied.
"He must be plotting something. Be cautious," Ethan warned, his tone serious.
"Yes, chief," Oslo acknowledged, understanding the gravity of the situation.
"Keep a close eye on any unusual activity and report back if you notice anything else," Ethan instructed seriously.
"If you can, set up some listening devices around the area. We need to gather intel on the manager’s plans."
Oslo nodded in agreement. Afterwards, everyone left Grandpa Caldwell’s unit and made their way downstairs. As they reached the door, Elena turned back to Grandpa Caldwell, reminding him to rest well.
Elena and Ethan stood in their unit, watching them go downstairs. She noticed Xander cradling little Koby, who was sleeping soundly in his arms.
Curious, she asked, "Why did you bring little Koby upstairs just for him to sleep on the sofa?" It seemed odd that they would move the child when he could have easily continued sleeping in their own unit.
"He was constantly awake from the thunder. When he realized I wasn’t in bed, he would cry, so I carried him with me," Xander explained softly, looking down at little Koby.
"Then make sure to cover him with a thick jacket; the weather is getting cold. And don’t forget to give him well water to drink daily."
’Kids can get sick easily, especially with this unpredictable weather.’
"I will, sister-in-law. Thank you on behalf of my younger brother," Xander responded, grateful for her concern.
Ethan felt a twinge of jealousy at his wife’s caring attitude toward the little boy. He couldn’t help but wonder if they would have children in the future. Would his wife devote all her attention to them, potentially leaving him feeling sidelined?
’Sigh. Well, as long as she’s happy, so be it.’
Ethan smiled at his wife, knowing she had a soft spot for kids. He recalled how attentive she had been while little Mia and Koby played on the sofa earlier, often taking the time to educate them.
It amused him to see how naturally she interacted with them as if she had been a mother before, despite not having kids of her own.
They said goodbye to Xander and Angela before heading into their unit. Just as they closed the door, the rotational power outage struck again, plunging the area into darkness.
"There’s no electricity again. It looks like the generator needs to be turned on," Elena said, feeling the familiar frustration.
"Okay, just stay still," Ethan replied as he walked in front. "It’s really dark, and you might bump into something."
Ethan quickly moved to the other room, where the emergency generator was located, and switched it on to restore the light to their unit.
Meanwhile, Oslo and Uncle Anthony were on the 26th floor, keeping a watchful eye on the area, hidden from prying eyes. The steel bar gate was charged with non-lethal electricity, delivering a mild shock as a warning that this area was off-limits.
A large sign reading ’Electrical Hazard’ clearly indicated the danger and warned that entry was prohibited.
"Uncle Anthony, I’m going to head downstairs for a bit," Oslo replied, his voice steady. "I want to check on the manager’s unit and plant some bugs so we can listen to their conversations."
"Go ahead, but be careful," Uncle Anthony said, reminding Oslo that safety was the top priority
Oslo stealthily made his way to the 25th floor, strategically placing bugs as he went. He noticed a crowd gathered nearby, with the two units buzzing with chatter, laughter, and the clinking of glasses, a lively scene amid the raging typhoon outside.
’They seem unaffected,’ he thought, observing the lively scene. Not wanting to draw attention, he quickly finished placing the bugs and left the area.

Elena was jolted awake by the buzzing of her phone, curious about the early caller.
She wanted to check it, but her husband’s tight embrace made it hard to move. His warmth was comforting, but the persistent buzzing urged her to respond.
Torn between the desire to stay nestled in his arms and the need to see who was calling.
In the end, she finally decided to wake him gently.
"Husband, can you move your arms a little? I need to reach my phone," she whispered.
Ethan had been awake for some time, admiring his wife as she slept peacefully. Reluctant to leave the warmth of the bed, he pretended to be asleep while holding her tightly.
However, the persistent ringing of her phone eventually stirred her. He listened as she softly pleaded for him to move just a little so she could reach her phone.
"Wife, stay. I’ll get it," Ethan said softly, gently releasing her from his embrace as he stood up to take the phone.
He quickly grabbed the phone and checked the time: it was still 7 a.m. Ethan’s brows furrowed slightly as he saw the name of the person calling so early in the morning.
"Who’s calling?" Elena asked, her curiosity piqued.
"It’s your Uncle William," Ethan replied.
"Don’t bother answering. Let it ring five times," she said playfully.
After the fifth ring, she picked up the phone. The voice on the other end was filled with anger.
"What took you so long to answer?" Uncle William’s voice came through, sharp and impatient.
"Oh, is there a new rule that I must answer quickly when you call?" Elena replied, her tone dripping with mockery.
"How dare you! I’m your uncle! Is this how you’re supposed to talk?" Uncle William exclaimed, his voice rising in indignation.
"Uncle, are you done with your acting? Because I had enough," Elena shot back, her tone sarcastic.
On the other end, Uncle William nearly choked on her blatant disrespect. "You!!!"
"Enough! What do you want?" she interrupted.
"I just want to know if you’re okay. I’m concerned—the typhoon is so strong. Maybe you should come stay with us so we can take care of you."
’Heh, after your daughter posted about me on social media, here you are, concerned?’
"Do you think I’m ten years old, that you can still manipulate me? Has your brain been damaged?"
"Niece, you’ve changed too much. Where is the sweet and understanding niece I once knew?" Uncle William replied, his voice tinged with disappointment.
"Are you mocking me, Uncle? Yeah, I was stupid enough to believe you back then. But trust me, if we ever meet again, you should hide," Elena warned, her voice cold and resolute.
"Are you threatening me?" Uncle William asked, incredulous.
"Yeah, what can you do about it?" Elena shot back defiantly, her tone unyielding.
"Where are you?"
"At Grandpa’s mansion," Elena said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Are you sure you’re there?" Uncle William insisted.
Elena abruptly hung up, not wanting to hear his nonsense any longer. She leaned back in bed, a smirk playing on her lips.
’Uncle William is definitely looking for me. His insistence on knowing my location suggests he’s desperate. The question now is, for what reason?’
Who cares? She would let her uncle rush over to the mansion, only to find it empty and abandoned. The sight of his stupid confusion would be worth it.
Ethan noticed the smirk on Elena’s face after the call ended.
"Wife, why did your uncle call?" he asked. frёewebnoѵēl.com
"Probably about Vivian," she replied nonchalantly. "She might have told her parents about what happened in City B, hoping they can subdue me. Such a pathetic dream. Let’s not waste our time on them."
After the call, Elena and Ethan quickly freshened up before heading to their grandfather’s unit for breakfast. The aroma of freshly cooked food filled the air, featuring a variety of dishes perfect for the cold weather. Just as they were about to dig in, a sharp knock echoed through the room.
Butler Aki opened the door, revealing Oslo with an annoyed expression. "Sister-in-law, the manager is looking for you—I mean, he’s asking for our leader," he said, his tone laced with irritation.
Elena raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "Looking for me for what reason?"
