Armipotent-Chapter 1820: Aftermath (1)
Commander Edson and Chief Kenver tried approaching the pit earlier, but they immediately backed out when the summon showed hostility toward them. Those gazes told them not to approach the pit or they would be attacked.
They were waiting for Shaoyang from a safe distance, and so was his army. The big and yet one-sided fight between Tang Shaoyang and Imperial Investigator Mein gathered more than half of the Hurakan Legion. They surrounded the battlefield, and they just needed an order from Commander Edson to move. They would fight those monsters who guarded the pit made from the battle.
"What is he doing?" Chief Kenver asked again for the second time as he saw the billowing black smoke from the hole. "What is he doing with the bodies?"
It was enough to kill them in the fight regardless of who was right and wrong, but Tang Shaoyang did not even give them the bodies.
Commander Edson had figured out what Tang Shaoyang tried to do and what those bodies were used for. He had figured out Tang Shaoyang’s class, and the Hurakan Kingdom had a bit more knowledge than the public about the class. He was well aware that Tang Shaoyang tried to summon his subordinate’s spirit back by using his soldiers’ dead bodies as sacrifices.
It was wrong to sacrifice his soldiers’ dead bodies for the sacrifice, and he would not allow it if it was a normal occasion. However, he also knew that there was nothing he could do to stop Tang Shaoyang. Unless he wanted a bigger sacrifice to fight Tang Shaoyang, then the death of three hundred soldiers would be in vain.
"You know it more than I do, Chief Kenver. You are the one who told me about the Spirit Contractors. What do you think he is doing right now?" There was bitterness and less politeness than before the way he spoke to Chief Kenver.
The idea behind requesting the Imperial Investigator was to make the cooperation between the Hurakan Legion and Senior Administrator Tang Shaoyang smoother. He hoped to obtain Tang Shaoyang’s trust by getting rid of the soldiers who were influenced by the foreign force, but one of the Imperial Investigators decided to fight the administrator.
What made it worse, Chief Kenver brought Mein knowing the guy hated the administrator. He knew this was not the intention, but regardless of the intention, Chief Kenver turned the situation into the worst possibility for him. Not only did Tang Shaoyang leave the frontier, he also lost three hundred soldiers. On top of that, his soldiers’ morale was at an all-time low, and there was a chance that the administrator side would not let the matter end like this. Especially the one who died was the direct subordinate of the candidate Executive Administrator.
"You let him kill them, and you allow him to defile their bodies as well!?" Chief Kenver asked in disbelief.
Commander Edson let out a sigh. "Then what do you want me to do? Fight him for the dead bodies? We will all die here, me, you, and him. The Void Cult will attack the frontier the moment they find out that we are using all our soldiers to fight our own ally."
"And also remember that you almost died to one of his spirits, and you still think of fighting him?" He raised his voice at the end.
The person at fault still dared to act like he had any other choice than watching from the sideline. Senior Administrator Tang Shaoyang was not in a state where he would listen to them regardless of the moral behind using the soldiers’ bodies for sacrifice.
"Watch your tone, Commander Edson!" Ben reminded Edson who he talked to, but Ben received a glare from Commander Edson, followed by his aura.
"You better watch your mouth from now on, Imperial Investigator Ben. I wouldn’t mind killing you and putting the blame on the administrator." Edson no longer had the same respect when they arrived at first.
He was angry right now, watching his soldiers die before his face regardless of who was at fault, he was angry at himself for not being able to do anything. He contained the anger and put the blame on himself, but he could no longer do so when the perpetrator still acted like they were not at fault. His aura flared out and reached Ben’s neck.
"Watch my tone? You still dare to say that to my face after all of the shits you did to my frontier!? If you didn’t knowingly bring a person who had a deep grudge against the administrator to this place, do you think all of this would happen? If not for you, do you think I would have to watch my soldiers die without being able to do anything?"
Ben’s complexion paled as he was blanketed by the dreadful aura from the man who had killed hundreds of thousands if not millions of void creatures. He immediately realized the terror before his face and his lip shivered until another aura intervened.
Chief Kenver held Commander Edson’s wrist and said, "Don’t make things worse than it is, Edson. I will take responsibility for what happened here."
Kenver was surprised that his aura could not neutralize Edson’s aura. His aura merely weakened Edson’s aura, but it still intimidated his subordinate.
Commander Edson released Ben, not because of Kenver but because of something else. He looked toward the pit and saw the figure next to the pit, the figure he wanted to meet. The spirits retreated behind the figure, and another group of spirits moved to the other side of the pit.
The fact that Tang Shaoyang came out of the pit still in the bloodline transformation was telling everything. The fact Tang Shaoyang moved half of his spirit to the other side to protect the team was telling everything. Tang Shaoyang no longer trusted them, he deemed this place no longer safe for him and his team, and he was ready to fight anytime.
Commander Edson headed toward Tang Shaoyang, not even waiting for Chief Kenver this time. Now he needed to think of a way to retain the man and prevent the same accident. Despite what happened, he was well aware that the frontier still needed Tang Shaoyang. At least until the Hurakan Kingdom could send the reinforcement.
He stopped at the fifteen-meter distance from Tang Shaoyang because of the aura. It was as if Tang Shaoyang was telling him not to come any closer than this. Now it was the most complicated and hardest work for him, negotiating with the person who killed his soldiers.

Tang Shaoyang watched the argument between the Imperial Investigator and Commander Edson. However, he would not take this at face value anymore, and he thought that might be their scheme to deceive him. Even though it was illogical for them to do that just for a show, regardless if it was logical or not, he knew for sure that he could no longer trust them.
His Chaos Eyes was active, and he could see everything around him. He was ready to break through the line and escape from the frontier if the Hurakan Legion started attacking him and his team.
Karan and forty spirits were on the side of his team, ready to lead his team to an escape from the frontier. While they made an escape, he would hold most of the Hurakan Legion’s soldiers here.
"I don’t want to fight you, or else I will have my army swarm you when you are inside that hole. This might be too much for me to ask, but I want you to trust me once more. The frontier still needs you, Senior Administrator Tang Shaoyang."
Tang Shaoyang furrowed his brow. Commander Edson’s tone was sincere and his Absolute Sense picked it up that the words were genuine. His experience told him not to trust the man’s words and to get away from this place if they had the chance. Discover more stories at novelbuddy
They might need him to fight the void creature, but what would happen after they passed the crisis. Would they leave him alone and let him back, or would they try to do something? He did not know, and his experience told him that they might plan something against him later on.
"The problem is not you, Commander Edson. All the incidents that happened to me didn’t involve you, but the people around you. And I don’t think your soldiers like to have me here after I killed three hundred of them."
Commander Edson did not get involved directly. The first one was with one of the generals, and the second one was with the Imperial Investigator. Even so, he did not know that Commander Edson might be behind all of this. This might be Commander Edson’s plan, playing as a hero, trying to gain his trust slowly. It was so hard for him to trust anyone in this frontier anymore.
"Well well well… You are supposed to protect the frontier, and yet you made a mess here."
Tang Shaoyang and Commander Edson looked up where the voice came from. Arion and Clementine came out from a portal gate. The two somehow could make a portal inside the frontier even though Commander Edson told him it was impossible to create a portal gate in the frontier.
