Awakening of the Scheming Wife-Chapter 126: Past Helena? Yes!
[Why is he shaking his head like that? Why is he looking at me like I am a child and he is my dad? Did he get his head injured recently that I do not know of?]
Vernon heard Helena’s thoughts and was stunned.
Seriously, why is she hell bent on thinking about him as if he had gone crazy each and every time? He did not understand at all.
He sighed and continued their previous conversation with a soft voice, "Yes, we are family. But we wouldn’t be for too long, right? We will get a divorce in the future. So, you don’t have to risk your life for our family, right?"
As soon as he spoke, he felt a gush of cold air blow on his face.
He was already looking at Helena, and he observed the changes in her expressions very clearly this time.
He understood. This isn’t the innocent and soft young Helena he was just treating like a young lady.
This was the old and mature Helena who schemed against his family in his previous life.
"How many times have I told you that I would never agree to the divorce? Don’t you understand human words anymore?" Helena’s cold and demonic voice escaped her lips.
Vernon was stunned. He did not understand why the Helena from the previous life is here and at this moment.
Did anything from his words act as a trigger? He did not know.
But now that he had a chance to talk to this Helena, he did not want to waste it and asked her, "Helena, do you hate my sister-in-law?"
Helena looked at him for a couple of seconds before nodding, "Yes."
"Why?"
Helena did not answer.
But he could hear her thoughts. [How could I tell him the reason? No. No way. I don’t even want to think about it.]
Vernon felt a hint of sadness from the voice of her thoughts. He frowned. He did not understand. What exactly was she sad about? Even if she felt sad about something, at most it should be related to him as her husband. But why was it related to Jemma?
But since he understood that she wouldn’t answer, he changed the question, "Even if you hate my sister-in-law, why do you have to push her son? He is a young kid. Why would you harm him?"
Helena did not waste a second and gritted her teeth, and she spoke in anger, "I wish I had killed him."
Vernon was stunned by this ruthless side of Helena.
He had never seen her like this. Even when she was really angry, she would always be calm and collected. But this time, the anger and coldness on her face looked so scary that he felt that he was looking at a demoness.
"Why?" He asked again. He couldn’t understand.
"You don’t have to know that. Just know that every time I see that kid, the only thing I want to do is to kill him." Helena said while taking a few deep breaths, trying to control her enraging emotions.
Vernon was stunned. He couldn’t understand what Helena was thinking at all. That child was just a five year old little boy. How could anyone hate a kid of that age to the extent of wanting to kill him?
And it was Helena nonetheless.
He couldn’t think Helena could ever have such thoughts about a kid.
And yet, here they are, where Helena was confessing to such thoughts on her own accord.
He wanted to ask her the reason. But when he saw her expression, he was sure that she wouldn’t tell him anything about that anymore.
He took a deep breath and asked her another question, "If you hate my family so much, why wouldn’t you agree to our divorce?"
He couldn’t understand this at all. He had thought of this question so much and so many times, but couldn’t think of any reasonable answer.
If she loved him, then she should love his family as well, right? But she clearly doesn’t.
Let alone not loving them, she even wanted to kill them.
"Huh? What did you say?" Helena asked.
But Vernon felt something was different from her voice. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Where did the coldness in her voice go?
He looked into her eyes and observed her carefully.
She blinked her round eyes innocently and waited for his answer.
Vernon sighed in defeat. This was Helena from the present time.
Helena looked at him in confusion and asked again, "What happened? What did you just ask?"
Vernon looked at her and shook his head, "Nothing."
Helena shrugged her shoulders and did not ask further.
Vernon recalled his conversation with the past Helena and pursed his lips.
He looked at Helena and hesitated for a second before softly asking, "If I ask you something, would you answer me seriously?"
Helena looked at him in confusion, "What is it?"
"Do you hate kids?" Vernon asked. Even though that wasn’t the real question he wanted to ask, he thought it would be better to start slow.
"Huh?" Helena did not expect that question out of nowhere. "Do you mean by kids in general or our kids?"
[Since we will get a divorce one day, he shouldn’t be talking about our kids, right? Or it would be a huge mess to handle later.]
Vernon immediately understood that she misunderstood his question and shook his head, "No. I meant kids in general."
Helena sighed in relief, "Oh. No, I don’t hate them. Why would I hate kids? They are cute, aren’t they?"
(So, it wasn’t kids in general. She hates just my nephew and no one else. But why?)
[Why did he ask such a question? Did I do something that showed that I hate kids? But I don’t remember ever interacting with any kids in front of him. Or am I wrong? What is going on?]
As a woman, it is only natural that Helena thought so much about this conversation.
Vernon was thinking about her possible issue with his future nephew and did not say anything to calm her.
Instead, he asked her again, "If... I mean IF... If one day in the future you hate a kid so much that you want to kill him, what would your reason be?"
"What? Why would I ever want to kill a kid?" Helena’s voice rose a few octaves in shock.
"I said IF. Just in a hypothetical scenario, what would be the reason?" Vernon asked again.
Helena tilted her head to the side and blinked her eyes. "I don’t think I would ever want to kill a kid, right? No matter how serious the reason was, how could I hate a little kid so much? At most, I will kill the kid’s parents instead."
Vernon pursed his lips. The room turned silent, and neither of them spoke for a long time.
"Why did you ask such a question?" Helena couldn’t hold herself and asked him. He looked deep in thought and she wondered the reason.
No matter how she looked at it, it did not look like a casual question.
Vernon blinked his eyes. There is no way he could tell her the real reason, right?
She already treats him like a silly and crazy man at every turn she gets. If he tells her that he came from the future, without a single second of delay, she would admit him to a mental hospital.
He sighed and ’explained’, "I got a script for a movie a few days back. In that script, a woman hates a kid and tries to kill him at every chance she gets. So, I couldn’t help but wonder what reason a woman could have to hate a little boy so much. So, I asked you to get a new perspective."
"Oh." Helena nodded in understanding, and they did not continue the conversation anymore. As the head of an entertainment company, it is only normal to receive all types of weird scripts everyday.
So, thinking of these scenarios is one of his job’s responsibilities.
Vernon sighed in relief and decided not to dwell on this topic anymore. He started to talk about some random topics with her so she wouldn’t think anymore.
After a few minutes, Noah knocked on the door and entered. He gave the couple a file and immediately left the office to give them the privacy they needed.
"It’s time," Vernon looked at Helena and said in a soft voice. He could see that Helena was nervous to look at the results and held her hand to give her courage.
Helena looked at him and gave a nod before opening the file.
She looked at it but did not dare to turn the page where the actual results were.
She suddenly closed the file and pushed it to Vernon, "You look at it. I don’t dare."
"Helena, why are you so scared? You know you don’t have to be, right?" Vernon squeezed her hand once again and asked in a soothing voice.
