Awakening of the Scheming Wife-Chapter 127: Honeymoon? No!
"I know, but... You know this is my mom’s lifelong ambition. The result in that file would tell us if my mom’s wish is fulfilled or not. She had struggled almost all her life for this result." Helena rubbed her temples.
Vernon smiled, "Yes, that’s true. If he is really your brother, then it is good news. But if he was not, we could just continue searching for your brother. So, relax, will you?"
Even though he said that, he knew that those were just words and there was nothing that could help this situation. In fact, he was as nervous as Helena was. It was just that he was trying to hide it from her.
If it really was Merlin, he could understand why Helena never found her brother in his previous life. But if he was not her brother, then he couldn’t hold the hope of finding her brother because that was what had happened in his last life.
Suddenly he had a thought. When he ’met’ the last life’s Helena earlier, if he had enquired about her brother’s search results, it should have helped them, right?
Now he regretted not having that thought a few minutes earlier.
[Uff! His hand is shaking in mine. Clearly he is as nervous as I am but he is still trying to stand strong for me. I wonder when he grew up so much.]
Vernon heard her thoughts and was stunned. On one hand, he was shocked that she realized that he was nervous as well and that he couldn’t hide it well from her.
On the other hand, he did not know if he should laugh or cry when she thought that he ’grew up’.
He sighed to himself and opened the file.
He then placed the file between them and said, "Let’s look at it together."
Helena nodded and looked at it along with him.
"Am I dreaming? It says yes, right? Right? Yes? Yes?" Vernon stood up in excitement and exclaimed.
He looked at Helena, who was still sitting in a daze, not reacting to the results on the file.
Vernon smiled like a crazy little kid. He placed both his hands over Helena’s shoulders and shook her, "Hel, it says, yes, right?"
"Huh?" Helena raised her head, looked at him, and came out of daze.
Looking at his goofy smile, her lips curved upwards as well. She threw the file on the couch and stood up facing him.
"Yes. It says yes."
"Yes."
"Yes."
"Yes."
Both started jumping around the room while screaming ’yes’ multiple times.
If any outsiders saw them, they wouldn’t think they are looking at two adults but two kids who were dancing around the room in mischief.
Even their smiles held the innocence and excitement kids would have.
While jumping around the room, they hugged each other and jumped together as if they won something.
After jumping a couple of times, they drained their energies and stopped.
But they continued leaning in each other’s arms as support as they felt they would fall to the ground if they did not have any support to hold them straight.
"Helena," The door opened suddenly and the person did not speak another word as he looked at the ’hugging’ couple.
Helena and Vernon realized that their posture seemed suggestive to an outsider’s perspective and immediately released each other.
"I am sorry for disturbing you both," The ’intruder’ coughed lightly to cover up his embarrassment.
"Ehem." Vernon coughed as well.
"Mhmm. You are not disturbing. Is something the matter?" Helena went straight to the point.
"Can’t I come to see you if I don’t have something to discuss?" Father Ford asked with a hint of sadness.
Helena frowned. She almost wanted to say Yes but looked at Vernon on the side and stopped herself. "I did not say such a thing."
Vernon looked at this pair of father and daughter duo and sighed to himself.
They were the closest pair of kin he had ever seen before. But now they became like this and he couldn’t fathom it.
But he did not dare to meddle in their relationship either. It is something between them and it is up to them both to settle their differences.
"What are you both doing here at this time?" Father Ford asked them.
"What can we do? I came to the office as usual and Vernon came to meet me for lunch," Helena’s voice was still a little rude, even though she tried her best to contain herself in front of Vernon.
"Is that what I am asking about? Shouldn’t you be going on your honeymoon today? What are you still doing here?" Father Ford said.
Helena never told him about their honeymoon plans after the wedding.
Before, when they planned the wedding, she had planned that the couple would go on their honeymoon trip once the Jeffery’s anniversary party was done.
So, Father Ford thought that the plan was the same as before and asked the question.
Helena lightly scratched her temple. She completely forgot about this matter. Since she stopped talking to her father, she did not inform him about any of her matters. But she realized she made a mistake. For such important matters, Father Ford should definitely be in the loop.
After all, he had to face the outsiders and no knowledge of the matter would reveal the discord inside the family- which she never wanted.
"I am sorry. It completely left my mind to inform you," Helena sighed and accepted her fault.
"What happened?" Father Ford asked as he, too, calmed down seeing his daughter’s attitude.
"Nothing really. We just decided to postpone our honeymoon for a while." Helena did not really want to explain anything to her father.
The only thing she regretted was not informing him of the change on their plans but not about not explaining it.
Father Ford was stunned by her attitude again. He thought that she might soften up when she apologized. But looks like it was nothing but his false hope.
He sighed. "Sit down."
He said to both of them and sat while he gestured to the couple to sit opposite him.
"Do you know why a newly wed couple goes on a honeymoon?" He did not wait for any of them to answer and continued speaking, "It’s to gain a new understanding between the couple. I know you both have known each other since you were little. But that understanding was based on your relationship of friendship. With every relationship, the equation between two people changes. It is not easy to transform from two friends to a married couple overnight.
"Your honeymoon is not just for some intimate time. It is just one of the reasons. During the honeymoon, the couple tries to understand each other and get to know how to get along with each other as their relationship status changes.
"Adapting to this new relationship is difficult in itself but when there are others around? It is even more difficult. That is why, you two need to go on a small trip, away from the elders, relatives, friends and everyone you know so you can focus on just understanding each other and not have to care about the other relationships. Do you understand what I am saying?"
Helena and Vernon stayed silent for a while. They were still processing his words as neither of them had expected such a speech from Father Ford.
Looking at their expressions, Father Ford could understand what they were thinking. He felt a little flustered as well. He cleared his throat and said softly, "Actually such things should be told to the daughter by her mother." His voice lowered as a cloud of sadness loomed over his head, "Since she left us,... now I have to take over all her duties as both Helena’s father and also her mother. I know you two might feel awkward with me saying all these words. But someone had to tell you kids these words."
Vernon sighed and lowered his eyes, not saying anything. He knows that the father and daughter were feeling emotional at the thought of Mother Ford.
No matter what he says at this moment, it would sound insensitive and hence he chose silence.
Helena’s eyes teared up. She softly sniffled and nodded, "I understand what you are saying. Thank you."
[Thank you for trying to be my mom.]
Vernon looked at her. Seeing her sad face, he grabbed her hand and squeezed it, giving her the emotional support that she needed.
"I understand, but... we can’t go right now," Helena said with her voice turned calm by now.
Father Ford frowned and asked, "Why is that?"
[How can I tell him about the kidnapping? As long as Sister Jemma’s sister is in trouble, how can I go on a trip to have fun on my honeymoon?]
She did not feel it was right to do so under the circumstances. She also knows not to divulge the matters of her in-law’s family to her maternal family. So, she was conflicted.
