Awakening of the Weakest Slayer-Chapter 120: Grave looters
'Am i dead...'
'No, definitely not. Dead people don't get to listen to their own internal monologue, do they?'
Sezel's battered body lay half-submerged under layers of rubble, his skin smeared with blood and dust. He was still alive... barely.
His body was still numb... not feeling any pain was a refreshing thing from his perspective.
He kept his eyes shut. Maybe it was denial, maybe self-preservation.
'If I see my insides outside, there's a real chance I'll die from shock before blood loss finishes the job.'
But the weirdest part—the part that felt wrong even among a hundred wrong things, was that warmth was seeping slowly into his broken body.... just some time ago it had been cold because of the ice.
The sun must be up. Funny how the world keeps going even when you're ruined and leaking.
'How long has it been, since then.' Sezel wondered. He had no idea how long he'd been lying here. Had a day passed, or a week?
A part of him expected, Vesta to yank him out of the mess, cradle him like a favorite but severely broken doll, declaring him an idiot as she patched up his wounds.
It was a nice fantasy.
But looking at the devastation, 'She must have thought i died... curse it.'
After so long, for the first time in his life, he'd found people to actually call companions—a little girl whose laughter carved through his gloom, a serious princess with eyes like bleeding rubies…
'What a Joke.'
Once again... it was all taken away. Wasn't it kind of... depressing. It is Spirit Realm after all, goes on to prove again there is no hope alive in this harrowing nightmarish place.
He couldn't move. Could hardly feel his body at all, which in a weird way made things easier to accept.
At least, he'd had a taste of friendship. He'd sort of liked Vesta. Maybe when they got back to Earth, if both of them survived, he could ask her out for coffee or something —whatever seemed less pathetic.
'Not that I'd have a chance. She's a princess. Thanks, Shiki, for dropping that little bomb. Why would she even look at me twice? If she does, I'll assume she's concussed.'
He sighed, though it sent a fury of tearing pain through his entire being, 'Why would she even think of me... i don't even exist.'
Eventually… there was noise.
In the dead quite he heard a few sounds, he listened carefully and it was the noise of some... debris falling on the rock. And Footsteps.
There were footsteps... that meant there were people here. That thing only revealed several ways the situation can escalate to.
'First... they might be some enemy group and chose to finish me off... second i might actually be saved.'
But... he was still doubtful, who in their right minds would be walking in here? And from there another chance formed, it might very well be a beast.
'So, surviving is less probable.'
The footsteps closed in the distance with each passing second.
"Hey Max... I found something here. Its buried in the rubble." A voice announced, it was a mature, feminine voice.
A women in her late twenties, Sezel guessed.
"If it's not dead, kill it. Take anything that's useful." Another voice, a male's voice this time replied her back... he was a bit far from Sezel.
'Wait... what are they? Are they here to just to loot the corpses.'
Somehow, Sezel could even understand their words, clearly. It was just like with the Chain man and ice queen.
The ground above shifted as someone dug, dislodging small rocks. One stone tumbled straight onto Sezel's wounded side. Pain surged up his spine... it was unbearable, he had tears in his eyes but he couldn't scream for some unknown reason. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Other ones followed, but they fell safely around him. 'Women's are dangerous.'
A moment later, the woman's voice, disgusted and still weirdly businesslike followed. "Shit… this is a woman's corpse without a head!"
"Doesn't she have anything useful?" the man replied without delay.
After some time, Sezel felt a shadow over himself.
"Max... I found another body." This voice was not from either the woman or the man called Max, it was manly and still somehow sweet.
"This guy's actually… kinda handsome," the newcomer added, chuckling.
Sezel laughed inwards... handsome, 'Haha... looks like this guy has some serious eye problem or Slayers have low standards. It can't be that i turned handsome after lying in dirt right?'
Another shadow descended on Sezel's body, now the two figures looked at him in quite inspection.
"Ohh! cool," it was the woman's voice. "Hey look Max, this guy has white hair. Is this the new trend on earth?" She sounded genuinely impressed.
A finger poked his cheek. "Looks dead to me," the man said.
"Of course… look at the wound on his abdomen. His kidneys are literally visible," the woman remarked.
'Ok so, my condition is actually pretty bad. But goddamn it... i am alive.'
A third shadow too came over Sezel. "Its a shame he is dead, he was still young. I could have persuaded him." Max said, with disappointment.
Sezel furrowed his brows.
"Hey... no fair. I would have kept him for myself." the woman shot back.
'Wait... what the hell are they even fighting about?'
"Both of you, calm down... he is dead." The sweet voiced man, intervened.
The group let out a collective sigh. Sezel marveled at his own timing. It was almost comically tragic
He twitched, barely, forcing his eyes open and stared at the trio.
There was a pretty woman, a man with angelic face and... another girl? They all leaned in, forming a perfect triangle of awkward curiosity.
He blinked at the group above. And then managed what he hoped was a smile, but that instead came out as a twisted, dirt-plastered grin.
If there were any monsters in the vicinity, they would've dropped dead from the sight. But alas! the ones staring at him were alive human's.
Everyone stared.
Seconds passed.
He blinked.
They blinked.
"AAAAAAHHH!! G-GHOST!" The group shrieked in a unison.
