Chapter 592: Chapter 584: Surprise_1

Lu Zhanguo also returned to his unit to report to his superiors on the completion of the mission.

Lu Zhanguo sent a soldier to follow the Lone Wolf because he knew he was leaving the provincial city. His intention was to entrust Lone Wolf with the safety of the two children and their family. He believed Lone Wolf would understand.

On May 4th, Ye Tianbao crossed the border with Xu Yanhong and entered our country.

Xu Yanhong believed what Wang Wenbing had said, that Lone Wolf would be sent to assist her in assassinating Lu Zhanguo, and so, fearlessly, she crossed the border with Ye Tianbao.

As per the instructions given to him, Lu Zhanguo waited until Ye Tianbao’s people boarded the train before proceeding with the assassinations of Ye Tianbao and Xu Yanhong. Ideally, they would be apprehended alive, but if not, they were to be shot on the spot. Xu Yanhong’s identity had been confirmed; she was the orphan girl adopted by the Number Two Leader, who indeed was Xu Yanhong, who had fled her marriage, was secretly trained, and used for his benefit.

Xu Yanhong, as instructed by the Number Two Leader, lured Ye Tianbao across the border, and planned to kill him once he handed over the information.

When Xu Yanhong killed Ye Tianbao and his men, she had no idea that Lu Zhanguo’s gun was pointed at her forehead.

"You wouldn’t dare kill me!" Xu Yanhong sneered.

"When did you poison Mo Wang?" Lu Zhanguo stared at Xu Yanhong, his eyes burning, as he asked harshly.

Xu Yanhong’s face paled, but quickly regained her composure: "You figured that out? How does that matter? This poison is incurable. If I live, he lives. If I die, he dies."

Lu Zhanguo didn’t waste more words on her. Mo Wang had been poisoned only when he had contact with Xu Yanhong during meals at Zeng Changzhi’s house.

Xu Yanhong was taken into custody by the local forces and then transported back to the provincial city.

Lu Zhanguo and Wu Guanghan hurried back to the provincial city by helicopter, just in time for Ou Tiannan and Ma Chengwen’s bombing of the school...

...

Mo Wang, as usual, was standing on the stool looking out the window. When he saw Lu Zhanguo’s figure, he turned around excitedly and fell off the stool. He didn’t care about the pain, brushed his knee, and rushed to open the door.

Gu Xiaobei was in the kitchen cooking. Hearing the thud, he hurried out, only to see Mo Wang at the door, smiling gleefully at the building below, he called Xiaopang excitedly: "Xiaopang, hurry, dad is back!"

Xiaopang, holding a book and pretending to read, heard Gu Xiaobei’s shout. Excited, he threw his book and ran over, shouting, "Dad, dad."

As soon as Lu Zhanguo entered the corridor, he saw his three beloved family members crowded at his door. Xiaopang was already screaming and running out: "Dad, it’s really Dad."

Lu Zhanguo, afraid that Xiaopang would fall, quickly climbed the stairs, picked up Xiaopang and said to Gu Xiaobei with a smile, "I’m back."

Mo Wang, red-eyed, couldn’t let go of Lu Zhanguo’s leg as soon as Lu Zhanguo carried Xiaopang into the house.

Gu Xiaobei closed the door, also ran over to pick up Mo Wang, and pushed him into Lu Zhanguo’s arms, allowing him to hold one on each side. His joy was evident as his eyes curled like a crescent, "You’re finally back. Otherwise, Xiaopang would have become Xiaoshou." As he spoke, he pulled Lu Zhanguo’s arm to sit on the sofa, seizing the opportunity to embrace Lu Zhanguo.

Sitting on the sofa, Lu Zhanguo gazed at his three loved ones hanging on him, smiling, "Didn’t I come back?"

Grasping his neck, Gu Xiaobei mused, "Did you get hurt? Why are you so tanned again? But you never seem to get white. Didn’t you like the food? Why have you lost weight?"

The corners of Lu Zhanguo’s eyes twitched at her comment about him never being fair.

Xiaopang and Mo Wang sat on each side of him. Xiaopang grumbled, "Dad, where have you been? Why did you only come home now? Xiaopang missed you so much his stomach hurt. It hurts like when taking a poop."

Gu Xiaobei couldn’t help laughing, "Xiaopang, mom told you it’s ’heartache’ when you miss someone, not a stomachache."

Mo Wang just quietly leaned against Lu Zhanguo’s chest, unable to hide the joy in his eyebrows and eyes.

After a moment of teasing, Gu Xiaobei rushed off to prepare dinner. When she reached the kitchen door, she looked back and asked, "Have you been to see mom and dad?"

"Yes, I just greeted them and came back." Lu Zhanguo replied while holding the children.

"If you hadn’t come back, Xiaopang was not willing to stay with them. It was mom who came over every day to send some food. Your daughter missed you and even fell ill." Gu Xiaobei mumbled as she entered the kitchen.

Hearing Gu Xiaobei’s words, Lu Zhanguo felt that his daughter looked thinner. Touching Xiaopang’s face, he asked, "Have you been eating properly?"

Xiaopang pouted, "Dad, I’ve grown up. I’m a big kid now."

However, their son Mo Wang focused on Lu Zhanguo’s face, excitedly asking, "Daddy, have all the bad guys been caught? Are you leaving again?"

Lu Zhanguo once again stroked his son’s head, "Not leaving. If we ever have to leave again, we’ll do so as a family."

Mo Wang was satisfied and once again leaned against his father.

Until bedtime, both children were attached to Lu Zhanguo, especially Xiaopang, who wouldn’t let go of his arm.

Gu Xiaobei glared at the sleeping children and threw herself onto him when they finally fell asleep, cackling sinisterly, "Finally you are mine again."

Lu Zhanguo pulled Gu Xiaobei into his arms, kissed her forehead and said with a smile, "Why are you competing with the kids?"

Gu Xiaobei gently bit Lu Zhanguo’s lower lip, mumbled, "Because I missed you so much?"

Lu Zhanguo, with laughter in his eyes, gently kissed Gu Xiaobei. His one hand wandered around her body while lightly pinching her waist with the other. Soon, Gu Xiaobei was like a cat, softly curled up in his arms.

Lu Zhanguo got up, carrying Gu Xiaobei, and they went into the adjacent bedroom...

The next morning after breakfast, Xiaopang dragged Lu Zhanguo out. As soon as they exited the building, Xiaopang proudly informed every person he saw, "Look, my dad is back."

"Auntie, my dad is back!"

"Xiaoguang, my dad is back!"

Even the guard at the front door didn’t escape Xiaopang pulling Lu Zhanguo to boast about his return.

Only then did he happily go with his father, mother and brother to the small courtyard.

Wen Xiuqing had seen Lu Zhanguo yesterday and knew that the family of four would come over today. She had come early in the morning, busy buying meat and fish, and preparing lunch.

As soon as Xiaopang entered the courtyard, he proudly told Wen Xiuqing, "Grandma, my dad is back!"

Gu Xiaobei was amused. He must have said that phrase ninety-nine times if not a hundred.

At lunch, Ji Xiangdong rushed back from his unit. Seeing Lu Zhanguo safely returned, he was very happy and couldn’t help asking a few more questions.

While chatting with Ji Xiangdong, Lu Zhanguo suddenly turned to Gu Xiaobei and said, "Tell Qin Li that we are going to the train station to pick up a few people the day after tomorrow."

"Who? And why involve Qin Li?" Gu Xiaobei was curious.

Lu Zhanguo wasn’t one for surprise announcements and directly said, "Jin Cheng."

"Jin Cheng??!!" Gu Xiaobei sprang up in shock, knocking over the chopsticks and bowls on the table.
