Back To The 80s-Chapter 593 - 585: Shock_1
Lu Zhanguo came home yesterday and was held up by his two kids. Then, he was busy with his "homework." This morning, being dragged around by Xiaopang, he had forgotten to tell Gu Xiaobei about this. Only now, when he was chatting with Ji Xiangdong about Miaojiang, did he remember such a big incident that he had forgotten to mention.
Gu Xiaobei’s heart was trembling, trembling from excitement. She couldn’t believe it as she asked, "Really? Is it really Jin Cheng?"
Lu Zhanguo nodded and recounted how he met Jin Cheng. When he was about to leave Miaojiang, he made arrangements with Uncle Axing to help bring Jin Cheng back to the provincial city. He also contacted the railway department and bought three sleeper tickets.
Gu Xiaobei couldn’t help but shed tears. From Lu Zhanguo’s description, it was as if Jin Cheng was currently in a vegetative state. She felt sorry for him and Qin Li.
Ji Xiangdong and Bai Xiaolan had also heard about Jin Cheng and couldn’t help sighing sadly.
Wen Xiuqing sighed deeply: "As long as he’s alive, it’s good enough. Whether he wakes up or not, as long as you can see him every day and touch him to feel his presence, it feels safe and satisfying." Speaking of it, she also wiped away her tears. The pain of losing a child was something she understood all too well, a pain that went deep into the marrow of her bones. Just being able to touch him every day would suffice.
After Lu Zhanguo returned home, he had a few days to rest. However, his time was monopolized by the little chubby Xiaopang and Mo Wang. Even when he went to the bathroom, Xiaopang would wait at the door, fearing that his father would leave him for a long time. Mo Wang didn’t follow him constantly like Xiaopang, but he would occasionally stand up during playtime, check if his dad was around, settle down if he was, or quickly go to each room to check if he wasn’t.
Gu Xiaobei felt that in the hearts of the two children, their father held a much higher status than she did. She couldn’t help but grumble to Lu Zhanguo about her jealousy. She was jealous of everyone!
Two days passed in the blink of an eye.
Gu Xiaobei didn’t know how to tell Qin Li that Jin Cheng was coming back. In the end, she decided not to say anything and took Qin Li to the train station to pick up the guest. If she told her in advance, Qin Li might just nervously anticipate it. It was better just to meet the person directly.
Qin Li glanced at Lu Zhanguo who was standing next to Gu Xiaobei and was somewhat puzzled: "Sister Xiaobei, who are we picking up from the train station that would require so much formality?"
Gu Xiaobei held Qin Li’s arm and said with a smile: "It’s a good thing." Saying that, she looked at Qin Li, who she had specifically asked to dress up nicely for the occasion.
Qin Li obediently wore a white large-collar blouse and a light pink crocheted bolero over it. Her hair, now very long, was braided into a pony-braid, secured at the end with a plain handkerchief.
Gu Xiaobei, very satisfied with Qin Li’s attire, believed that Jin Cheng would also like it!
They arrived quite early at the station. Seeing waves of people coming out of the exit, Gu Xiaobei got anxious and kept asking Lu Zhanguo, "What time was the arrival? Is it delayed?"
Qin Li also got nervous due to Gu Xiaobei’s anxious behavior. Who were they meeting?
Finally, Jin Cheng’s train arrived and people poured out like a tide. Gu Xiaobei, holding Qin Li’s arm and on her tiptoes, looked around as the crowd was getting smaller. But she didn’t see Jin Cheng.
Gu Xiaobei started to worry. Did he miss the train? Just when she turned around to ask Lu Zhanguo, she saw Uncle Axing and his son Awang pushing a wheelchair from the end of the corridor.
At the sight of Jin Cheng on the wheelchair, Qin Li froze on the spot with tears streaming down her face. Her eyes blurred, not daring to blink, afraid that the person in front of her would vanish if she did. She widened her eyes, desperately and greedily staring ahead. This couldn’t be real! It just couldn’t be!
Gu Xiaobei also started to cry, gently nudging Qin Li.
Only then did Qin Li snap out of it, making her way to Jin Cheng.
The hundred-meter corridor seemed incredibly long to Qin Li. She felt like no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t reach Jin Cheng, her tears gushing down her cheeks non-stop.
Uncle Axing and his son Awang saw Qin Li running towards them and couldn’t help but stop.
"Jin Cheng!" Qin Li cried out and fell in front of the wheelchair, her hands trembling as she rushed to his side.
"Jin Cheng, is that really you? Jin Cheng?" Qin Li murmured with a faint voice, looking at Jin Cheng who remained still with closed eyes. "Jin Cheng, you’re still alive. Why won’t you look at me? What happened to you? Is this really... I knew it, you would come back. You mustn’t bear to leave me, right, Jin Cheng..." Her voice was breaking, and finally, resting her head in Jin Cheng’s lap, she cried out loud. Her mournful cries drew the onlookers’ attention.
Jin Cheng, who had remained quiet all along, had tears trickling down the corner of his eyes.
Lu Zhanguo came over, hugging the sobbing Gu Xiaobei, and nodded to Uncle Axing and Awang.
Sobbing, Gu Xiaobei looked at Jin Cheng’s face and shouted, "He’s crying! Does that mean he’s waking up?"
Upon hearing Gu Xiaobei’s cry, Qin Li, who had not figured out what was happening to Jin Cheng and had a vague premonition about it, quickly looked over.
Uncle Axing shook his head and said, "He does cry a few times a year, but he hasn’t woken up."
Upon hearing this, Qin Li felt as if her heart was being ripped out. She held Jin Cheng’s cold hands and pressed them against her face, the scalding tears falling drop by drop onto Jin Cheng’s hand and seared into his heart.
Glancing over, Gu Xiaobei saw more tears streaming down Jin Cheng’s face. She looked at Lu Zhanguo, her tear-filled eyes conveying her silent question: would Jin Cheng wake up?
Lu Zhanguo gave Gu Xiaobei a firm squeeze on the shoulder. He also wished for Jin Cheng to wake up soon.
Once Qin Li has calmed down a little, Gu Xiaobei helped her up. Lu Zhanguo pushed Jin Cheng forward, along with Uncle Axing and Awang, and they went to the military hospital.
With so many people, everyone couldn’t fit into one car. Gu Xiaobei decided to go to Jin’s house to inform Zhuang Shuxian while Lu Zhanguo drove the others to the hospital.
On the way, Qin Li let Jin Cheng rest on her lap, tightly holding his hand, her tears never stopping. In her heart, there was joy, grievance, and immense heartache.
By the time Gu Xiaobei arrived at the hospital with Zhuang Shuxian and Ou Ruoshui, Jin Cheng was having a checkup. Zhuang Shuxian had been crying all the way. When she saw Qin Li, she came forward, tightly grasped Qin Li’s hand, and asked through tear-filled eyes, "Is it true? Is it really him? Is it truly Jin Cheng?"
Qin Li nodded tearfully.
Zhuang Shuxian broke down in tears, muttering, "I knew it. I knew that Heaven wouldn’t be so cruel. My poor child..." She burst into tears, embracing Qin Li. She needed strength to steady herself.
He Qin and several doctors performed a full-body checkup on Jin Cheng. The fact that all his organs hadn’t deteriorated after so many years was a miracle. But why he hadn’t woken up yet was something they too were curious about.
When the doctors left the ward, Zhuang Shuxian didn’t question them about Jin Cheng’s condition. She just bawled her eyes out and rushed into the room.
Zhuang Shuxian saw Jin Cheng lying peacefully on the hospital bed and started to sob. She went over, lay on the edge of the bed, and touched her son’s face: "Son, you’re finally home. Your mother is here. Please open your eyes and have a look. I’ve heard you’ve been asleep for a long time. Now that you’re home, it’s time to wake up..."
