Back To The 80s-Chapter 74 - 73: Chaos_1
Chen Qiumei said uncomfortably, "What nonsense are you talking about, girl? How could I possibly harm you?" Her bravado immediately diminished considerably.
Lu Zhanguo’s face turned steel gray, his hands tightly clenched, the veins on the back of his hands bulging. The sharp look in his eyes turned towards Chen Qiumei, he was completely oblivious of the Gu Family’s bullying.
Gu Weimin also stared at Chen Qiumei in disbelief, "How could you be so shortsighted?"
Xiaobei, thinking about this matter, couldn’t help but tremble with anger, and finally, she could vent it all out today. Lu Zhanguo pulled her to his side and quietly comforted her by holding her shoulder.
There was another knock at the door, and Lu Zhanguo went to answer it, and in came Liao Qing with a child.
Liao Qing stood in the middle of the living room, holding the child who was sound asleep, looking a bit helpless. Xiaobei felt a bit unbearable and said, "Let’s put the child in the bed first, then we’ll discuss."
Gu Weimin and Chen Qiumei looked at Liao Qing and Xiaobei baffled as they carried the child into the bedroom.
Lu Zhanguo ignored the questioning looks from Mr. and Mrs. Gu Weimin. Every time he thought about the time Xiaobei came to him in Daqing Mountain, covered in blood, he felt a lump in his throat. He had no idea that there was such a shocking secret behind all this, and he hadn’t done anything about it.
Xiaobei let Liao Qing put the child on the bed and returned to the living room. She couldn’t be bothered to say a word to Liao Qing. No matter how pitiful one might feel, once you become the other woman, there’s no sympathy left for you. Only the innocent child deserved pity.
Liao Qing stood in the middle of the living room, twisting her hands nervously. Xiaobei sat next to Lu Zhanguo, laughing coldly at Chen Qiumei, "Didn’t you want a grandson? The child lying in the room is your grandson. This is the woman your son has been fostering outside."
"What?" Chen Qiumei leaped up in surprise, looking at Liao Qing with a fierce voice, "Don’t slander your brother, he is not that kind of person."
Gu Weimin couldn’t sit still either. The news of Gu Xiaodong having an affair and fathering an illegitimate child was too shocking. Even if Gu Xiaodong came out unscathed, his future would still be ruined. He looked at Liao Qing and said, "Don’t talk nonsense, our Gu family won’t recognize any child whose origin is unclear as a grandchild."
Liao Qing’s face turned red, and with watery eyes, she said, "Little Liao Zhe really is your grandson. When he wakes up, you can see for yourselves that he looks a lot like Gu Xiaodong."
"Even if that were true, we would not recognize him, you better take your child and leave," Gu Weimin stated stubbornly.
Chen Qiumei was different though; she tapped on Gu Weimin and said, "It’s a boy, a grandson, the root of the Gu family, we cannot disown him."
Xiaobei, leaning against Lu Zhanguo, had an expression of indulging one’s natural instincts on her face, thinking what would happen once Chen Qiumei found out that Liao Qing ruined her son’s future. Could it lead to a fight?
Gu Weimin glared, "Are you muddled? What’s the present situation with Xiaodong? This woman, coming here right now, has just come to cause more trouble."
Chen Qiumei finally understood; Liao Qing was clearly trying to put her son in jeopardy by arriving precisely at this moment.
Once she understood this, she stared at Liao Qing and bitterly said, "You’re a vixen, aren’t you? You don’t want to see Xiaodong do well, do you? What’s your purpose for coming here now?"
Liao Qing stammered, "I had no choice. I was stuck in the countryside. The child was constantly getting sick and didn’t even have enough food to eat, so I brought him here."
Gu Weimin clearly didn’t believe that. It couldn’t be a coincidence that Liao Qing turned up right after Gu Xiaodong got arrested. He gave Liao Qing a suspicious look.
Chen Qiumei started to lash out, "You knew my son was married, but you still had no shame and clung to him. Aren’t you trying to ruin my son?"
Liao Qing gritted her teeth and said, "Liu Mei asked me to come here today. She said as long as I come here today, you’ll definitely let me in and acknowledge the child."
"What?" Chen Qiumei shrieked, "That damn girl, what does she mean? Is she hoping my son’s situation gets worse?"
Both Lu Zhanguo and Xiaobei were shocked, shared a glance, and felt bewildered. Was Liu Mei aware of when Gu Xiaodong was going to get into trouble? The timing was too precise - right after Xiaodong was taken away, Liao Qing showed up.
Gu Weimin suddenly remembered the fifty thousand found in their house. Xiaodong couldn’t possibly be stupid enough to leave that money at home. So the only person who could’ve planted the money there was Liu Mei, and what was her motive for doing such a thing? The realization sent a cold shiver down Gu Weimin’s spine. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
It seemed Chen Qiumei also came to her senses. She might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but she was not stupid. She lunged at Liao Qing, yelling, "Are you in this with that little bitch to set up my son?"
Grabbing Liao Qing by her braid with one hand, the other moving towards her face. Liao Qing was stunned by the sudden slap, only capable of defending herself and crying, "It’s not me. It’s not me! I didn’t harm Xiaodong!"
Xiaobei was astonished as she watched the fight break out between the two women. Lu Zhanguo remained silent with a somber expression, while Gu Weimin found the whole situation quite embarrassing and allowed the two women to fight.
Chen Qiumei knocked Liao Qing to the ground, mounted her and scratched and hit her while cursing, "I’ll show these little sluts who tried to ruin my son. I’ll teach you a lesson!"
Awakened by the sound of the commotion, Little Liao Zhe began crying in the bedroom.
Hearing her child cry, a surge of strength seemed to come over Liao Qing on the ground. She pushed Chen Qiumei off her and ran towards the bedroom.
Caught off guard, Chen Qiumei crashed into the corner of the coffee table, seeing stars.
Another knock on the door sounded, accompanied by a man’s voice, "What’s all the fuss about? Are you going to let anyone get some sleep?"
Xiaobei quickly ran to the door and apologetically said, "Sorry, sorry, we’ll try to be quieter. Sorry."
The neighbor seemed to want to add something, but seeing Lu Zhanguo standing behind Xiaobei with a stern expression, he swallowed his words and muttered, "Okay, if there’s anything, talk during the day. Don’t disturb others at night." He then turned and went back into the apartment across the hall.
In the living room, Chen Qiumei was rubbing her head and sat down, muttering under her breath.
After Liao Qing finally soothed Liao Zhe, she came out carrying the child. Her hair was disheveled and her face was scratched all over by Chen Qiumei, looking quite horrifying.
Liao Qing came out carrying the child and coldly said, "This is the Gu family’s child. Whether you recognize him today or not is not up to you. If you don’t acknowledge him, I’ll find a place that will." She had clearly seen through the indifference of the elderly couple towards the concept of a grandson.
Little Liao Zhe had just awakened, his small face flushed. His big eyes, still wet from crying, looked around, his tiny mouth still sobbing. Xiaobei felt a bit heartbroken for the child.
Chen Qiumei looked at the beautiful, well-behaved Liao Zhe. This was her grandson and her suppressed emotions bubbled up once again.
Gu Weimin heard Liao Qing’s threats; he was not pleased but also felt helpless. Frowning, he said, "Hold the child, and sit down first." Xiaobei pulled a stool over for Liao Qing.
Gu Weimin looked at Liao Qing and said, "You should be aware of Xiaodong’s current situation. For you to come back with a child now will only worsen Xiaodong’s condition. Why don’t you go back to the countryside and wait until this blows over?" He felt that he absolutely needed to send Liao Qing and her child away, and quickly at that.
Liao Qing seemed to have expected this result and calmly said, "Since I’ve come back this time, I won’t be leaving, no matter what."
