Back To The 80s-Chapter 75 - 74: Resignation _1
Gu Weimin was so angry that he was speechless, while at that moment, Gu Xiaobei leaned on Lu Zhanguo, yawning continuously due to fatigue. Lu Zhanguo glanced at Xiaobei, who was resting on his shoulders, and then told Gu Weimin, "Dad, why don’t you guys go home first and we’ll talk about everything tomorrow?"
Gu Weimin opened his mouth, considering the messy situation, he didn’t know what to say. He looked at Liao Qing and felt conflicted. How would they manage this mother and daughter?
Gu Weimin knew that Gu Xiaobei would never agree to let Liao Qing stick around. He thought about how their tight-knit community would react to such news. Moreover, they lived in a military residence. After their family scandal with Gu Xiaodong, how could they possibly face their neighbors?
Gu Weimin thought for a moment and said, "Fine, we will go home now and look for a new place to rent tomorrow, where we can move in."
Chen Qiumei spoke up with shock, "Why should we move? I’m not going anywhere."
Gu Weimin snorted coldly, "If you want to bring them back to our residence without feeling ashamed, then go ahead."
Chen Qiumei stayed silent. She glared at Liao Qing angrily. Seeing the baby in Liao Qing’s arms, she finally compromised.
After sending Gu Weimin’s family off, Lu Zhanguo took Xiaobei into the bedroom and said, "Try to get some rest, it’s almost dawn."
Xiaobei kicked off her shoes, got into bed, and surprisingly, no longer felt sleepy. Leaning against Lu Zhanguo, she asked, "Do you think Liu Mei reported Xiaodong?" 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Lu Zhanguo comforted her by patting her back and said, "It’s very likely because she was the only one who had the opportunity to put 50,000 yuan in our house."
"Who would have thought that Liu Mei, who usually keeps a low profile, would dare to do such a bold thing?" Xiaobei commented.
"From tomorrow on, don’t go to work anymore. I’m afraid there will be some instability during this period," Lu Zhanguo said, worried that Xiaobei might insist on going to work.
"Okay. I won’t go," Xiaobei mumbled sleepily.
However, Lu Zhanguo couldn’t sleep. He gently patted Xiaobei’s back, staring at the ceiling with a deep and distant gaze.
Once Chen Qiumei left Xiaobei’s house, she couldn’t help but complain, "Look at how ungrateful that girl is now. I really don’t know who she takes after."
Gu Weimin responded impatiently, "Could you please tone it down a bit? Who does she take after? Seriously, you actually tried to hurt Xiaobei’s baby. If Lu Zhanguo doesn’t say anything now, it’s our own karma!"
Liao Qing, carrying her child, remained silent and followed behind them. She now realized that she had been used by Liu Mei. With Gu Xiaodong arrested, how could she move forward now that she has a child to take care of? She started pondering about her future.
Watching Liao Qing’s child, Chen Qiumei could not help but ask, "How old is the baby? What is his name?"
"He is a year and four months old. His name is Xiao Zhe. He is not yet registered in the system," Liao Qing replied without mentioning that the child carried her surname. Fearing that Chen Qiumei would become upset, she needed to quickly get Chen Qiumei to accept the baby so she could make further arrangements.
"Look at what you’ve done. A perfectly normal child is now undocumented," Chen Qiumei complained.
Looking at the baby gave Gu Weimin a headache. It was like waves continuously crashing, one after another.
Xiaobei slept until nearly ten o’clock before waking up. Seeing Lu Zhanguo reading the newspaper in the living room, she mentioned, "I’m going to the office later to announce my departure. Do you want to come with me?"
"Sure," Lu Zhanguo agreed after some consideration. He felt more secure accompanying her.
Xiaobei laughed playfully, "With you by my side, they dare not refuse to give me my salary." She beamed victoriously.
Lu Zhanguo fondly watched her, without saying a word. Xiaobei then asked, "When are we returning to the military base?"
"Let’s wait a couple of days. We at least need to handle your parents’ situation before we return," Lu Zhanguo thought aloud.
Xiaobei pouted, "They will surely approach you with the intention of bailing Xiaodong out."
"I know how to handle it. Alright, let’s go. We’ll get breakfast first," Lu Zhanguo said.
"Breakfast? It’s lunchtime already. Hurry up, or we will be stuck in the hottest part of the day," Xiaobei checked the time and responded.
After having lunch, they arrived at the company when everyone was on break. Ling Yun saw Xiaobei walk in with Lu Zhanguo and was stunned, "Xiaobei, is there something wrong?"
"I’m here to resign. Something’s happened in our family, and I plan to move back to the military base," Xiaobei stated bluntly.
Ling Yun’s face stiffened as he said, "Well, we need to inform the manager about it." Jin Cheng, who was standing nearby picking his teeth, said, "Why bother? I’m the office director, after all. It’s a good opportunity for me to exercise my authority."
Xiaobei wanted to laugh, thinking that Jin Cheng was quite amusing at that moment. Ling Yun stayed silent, his face turning serious.
Jin Cheng looked at Lu Zhanguo standing behind Xiaobei and said, "You even have a bodyguard with you. How could anyone say no to that? Alright, pack your things and go."
"Alright, thanks, Director Jin." Xiaobei didn’t forget to tease a bit.
Jin Cheng rolled his eyes and said, "Look at you. You’re turning into a bad influence like Qin Li. Where has that crazy girl disappeared to recently?"
"I wouldn’t know. If you miss her, you can go find her." Xiaobei responded, rolling her eyes.
"I wouldn’t wish for her to bother me. I finally get a few days of peace," Jin Cheng complained.
After saying goodbye to her colleagues and packing her personal belongings from her desk and handing them to Lu Zhanguo, Xiaobei said, "Alright, let’s go."
Ling Yun nodded without a smile, and Jin Cheng impatiently waved his hand, "Go ahead."
As they passed by the police station, Xiaobei decided, "I’ll go in and let Qin Li know. You can wait for me under the shade of the tree."
"Alright," Lu Zhanguo agreed with a nod.
Qin Li, who was in charge of the registry at the police station, was quite bored when Xiaobei walked in. She was absolutely delighted to see Xiaobei, "Come and chat with me for a while."
"I came here today to resign. I’ll be moving to the military base in a few days. You should come and visit when you have time."
"Oh, you’re leaving? How boring my life will be now," Qin Li pouted, looking quite disappointed.
Xiaobei teased her, "So you’re worried it’ll be inconvenient to see Jin Cheng now, right? If you like him, just go for it directly. Taking things slow isn’t your style."
Qin Li reluctantly said, "I confessed my feelings to him a few days ago."
Xiaobei was extremely surprised and asked excitedly, "And then what happened?"
"He said he prefers women with big breasts and butts and that I’m not his type," Qin Li said with a gloomy expression.
Xiaobei was outraged at Jin Cheng for hurting Qin Li’s feelings so directly. "So, are you planning on giving up on him?"
Qin Li rolled her eyes, "How could I possibly give up on him? Jin Cheng is my life-long obsession. If I can’t find a way to win his heart, I don’t deserve to be called Qin Li."
Xiaobei couldn’t help but smirk, "I’m really afraid you’ll need to change your name."
Qin Li looked at her with a mournful expression, "What kind of friend are you? Instead of comforting me, you’re putting me down."
"When I try to comfort you, you don’t listen, so I might as well dampen your spirits a little. This will help improve your resilience to setbacks," Xiaobei responded with a hint of exasperation.
"I’ve made up my mind. If Jin Cheng gets married, I’ll leave T City. If he remains single, I’ll keep on chasing him until the end of time," Qin Li declared with an oath-like determination.
"You keep putting yourself through such torment. I have to go now. My man is outside waiting for me," Xiaobei smugly stated.
"You only care about your love life now. Get on, then. Visit me at the military base when you get the chance," Qin Li dismissed her, waving her hand and going back to work.
