Beast Taming: Starting From Zero-Chapter 669: I Just Feel Like I’’ve Had an Epiphany
A black shadow, like a strange tendril, slowly emerged from the ground and wrapped around the man’s neck.
The man, however, seemed completely unaware. He turned his head to look at the girl being questioned by the police in the distance.
I almost forgot about that kid… A faint, cold glint flashed in the man’s eyes.
He was sure he hadn’t seen wrong earlier. If it hadn’t been for that kid’s pet beast using telekinesis, there was no way he wouldn’t have been able to summon his own beast.
And definitely no way he would’ve spilled that matter in front of so many people.
Still, it was fine. A bit troublesome, sure, but not unmanageable. Though his reputation might take a while to recover.
Eliza too, so young, yet carrying such intense resentment. No wonder she attracted the likes of Hidden Resentment Yodu...
The man wanted to pull out his phone to vent to his lover but then remembered his hand was fractured and couldn’t move.
Damn it... He looked up at the sky, suppressing his growing fury.
Forget it. At least I’m still alive.
Just as that thought passed through his mind, a familiar face appeared above him, blocking out the sunlight.
The man’s pupils shrank instantly, his expression contorted in terror.
He opened his mouth to call for help but the next second, a sharp pain tore through his neck. The world in his eyes flipped and was replaced by the sight of cold concrete. (T/n: You know what? DESERVE!!!)
---
“Ah!!!”
A shrill scream pierced the air.
Qiao Sang, who was talking to the police, turned toward the sound and saw the man who had been lying flat on the ground, his head now twisted a full 180 degrees, face planted against the pavement. It was a grotesque sight.
Next to him lay a pale boy in a blood-stained blue hoodie.
In that moment, Qiao Sang couldn’t describe how she felt.
Honestly, she’d seen plenty of news reports before, but this was the first time she’d ever witnessed something so brutal up close.
The nearby police officers rushed toward the scene.
“Xun xun?”
Little Treasure called out cautiously, asking if he should absorb the negative emotional energy.
“No need, I’m fine.” Qiao Sang said.
“Xun xun…”
Little Treasure sighed. Absorbing negative energy really wasn’t fun anymore.
---
“Name.”
“Qiao Sang.”
“Age.”
“Sixteen.”
“Why were you in the morgue?”
“I was participating in the Ghost-type pet beast Negative Energy Collection Contest.”
At the police station, Qiao Sang was giving her statement, something she’d grown familiar with.
Once it was over, she asked, “Was Hidden Resentment Yodu caught?”
“No.” The officer reassured her.
“But don’t worry. As long as you weren’t murdered or caused someone’s death, Hidden Resentment Yodu won’t come after you.”
That’s not really what I’m worried about… Qiao Sang muttered inwardly, then asked, “Can I leave now?”
“You can.” The officer nodded.
Qiao Sang exited the police station and found that night had already fallen.
“Xun xun~”
Little Treasure appeared, playing beside her by manipulating his shadow control in 3D mode, turning it into patterns like a string game.
“What are you doing?” Qiao Sang gave him a sideways glance.
“Xun xun~”
Little Treasure chirped sweetly, saying he was training his shadow control.
Qiao Sang paused.
“Why are you suddenly training shadow control?”
“Xun xun~”
Little Treasure flashed a grin as if to say, I just felt like training.
Qiao Sang stared at him, eyes clearly saying: You really think I’d believe that?
“Xun xun…”
Little Treasure’s face froze, then sighed in resignation.
He remembered every time he trained, Qiao Sang’s mood seemed to improve.
He just wanted his Beast Tamer to feel a little better.
Qiao Sang was touched. She was about to say there was no need to train, that a good night’s sleep would fix her mood but then she remembered how lazy Little Treasure had been lately. Dragging his feet to train, staying up late glued to his devices… So she held her tongue.

“Xun xun~”
Little Treasure blinked up at her with big eyes.
“You’re right.”
Qiao Sang cleared her throat and said, “Watching you train does cheer me up. You can continue.”
“Xun xun…
Something felt off, but Little Treasure checked and sensed that Qiao Sang’s negative emotions were indeed fading. His eyes lit up and he happily resumed training with the 3D shadow control.
Seeing this, Qiao Sang suppressed a smile and pulled out her phone to check the time.
8:23 p.m.
The three-hour competition had long ended.
The rankings were probably already released, and the emotional energy collection bottle was still with her. She’d need to find a time to return it…
While thinking, a voice nearby called out:
“Number 113.”
Qiao Sang looked toward the voice, surprised.
“Number 98, you’re here too?”
“I’m here to give a statement as well.” The woman replied as she approached.
Soon, she noticed Little Treasure, who was playing string games.
“That… is shadow control?” The woman looked stunned.
She wasn’t shocked that a Ghost-type pet beast could use it, after all, it could already teleport like a Psychic-type, but she’d never imagined such a high-level skill could be played with like that!
Qiao Sang responded with a soft “Mm,” then shifted the topic.
“The contest is over. Are you planning to return your emotional energy bottle now or tomorrow?”
“No need.” The woman said.
“Didn’t we leave our contact info? The organizers will come to collect them. And since the contest was livestreamed, the audience knows we ended up at the police station.”
Qiao Sang nodded.
“Then I’ll head out first.”
“Wait.” The woman called out.
“Let’s go together.”
“Are we going the same way?” Qiao Sang asked.
The woman smiled.
“We can be.”
Qiao Sang was speechless for a moment, then began walking toward her rented place.
The woman followed, trying to make conversation.
“You seem a little down.”
“Do I.” Qiao Sang’s tone was flat.
“Yes.” The woman said seriously.
“Backstage earlier, you didn’t talk much, but your mood was clearly better.”
Qiao Sang was silent for a moment.
“It was my first time experiencing something like that.”
The woman chuckled.
“Were you scared?”
“No.”
Qiao Sang paused, then said self-deprecatingly, “Maybe I was just feeling overly sympathetic. Thought those two kids were pitiful.”
The woman went quiet for a few seconds, then gently said, “I saw what you did.”
“What did you see?”
“You had your Ghost-type pet beast drag that scumbag to Hidden Resentment Yodu. But after I told you the girl’s soul would disappear, you made him back away.”
Qiao Sang replied calmly, “I already knew helping came at the cost of a soul. When I saw that man and girl, I instinctively thought evil should be punished. That thought made me forget the price. Thanks to your reminder.”
In the evening breeze, the woman sighed.
“Even if you hadn’t pulled him back, so what? You’re a Beast Tamer. The guy was carrying the death of his own child. The police would’ve just blamed everything on Hidden Resentment Yodu. You know that.”
“You’re only upset because even after the scumbag was punished, the little girl’s soul would be lost.”
Qiao Sang looked indifferent.
“Can’t have it both ways.”
“Who says?” The woman smiled.
Qiao Sang glanced at her.
The woman continued:
“Hidden Resentment Yodu is only a General-level beast. Above that are King-level, Emperor-level, many who can suppress or overpower it. You just can’t have it both ways yet because you haven’t reached that level.”
“Any hesitation you had today was simply because your strength isn’t enough to do what you want.”
“Twenty years from now, you won’t need Hidden Resentment Yodu. You’ll be able to see souls yourself, communicate directly, and help as you wish.”
“Even if Hidden Resentmentt Yodu eats a soul, you could force it to spit it back out.”
“From another angle, you could have your beast learn memory-revealing skills. Next time something like this happens, no need for all the trouble. Those scumbags’ true colors could be exposed right away.”
Then she added, “But you’re already amazing. Better than me. You even saved me today.”
Qiao Sang didn’t respond right away.
One sentence echoed in her mind: “Your ability just hasn’t reached the level to do what you want.”
That’s it.
The helplessness she felt today came from realizing she couldn’t actually do anything. She couldn’t act freely.
Suddenly, her head throbbed.
Then a voice called out: “Xun xun~”
Qiao Sang turned to see Little Treasure looking at her with deep concern.
“What’s wrong?” The woman beside her noticed too.
“I’m fine.” Qiao Sang said. Oddly, the pain vanished, replaced by a feeling of clarity. After a pause, she said seriously, “I just feel like I’ve had an epiphany.”
The woman: ???
Little Xunbao: ???
“Oh right, my name’s Qiao Sang.” Qiao Sang looked at her.
“What’s yours?”
“I’m Doreen.” The woman said.
