Chapter 205: Fighting the corrupt beasts

The Spiritfang tribe, both males and females who were able to fight, began to move. They charged quickly towards the ten grotesque elk.

They could not touch them, so they used the only thing they could...vital energy.

Aliar was the first to meet the elk. She was not sure she could kill it, but she would make sure to injure it. Her fingers were like talons as she swung towards the elk’s throat.

Her hand was covered in vital energy. If one did not look closely enough, they would not notice the faint sheen. Her movements were quick.

She clawed at the elk’s throat, and though she cut through, she found the skin was harder than she imagined. So, the elk she had wanted to kill was now barrelling towards her.

The elk, however, had no chance to get close as another female swooped in. She used her leg to kick the elk. She also coated her leg in vital energy.

The elk staggered back from the kick. But it recovered quickly. It rampaged towards the two females who fought back just as fiercely.

As they continued using vital energy, they were learning when to use more or less to inflict damage. As they fought, Xeno and Visha would give them pointers from time to time.

Taro, one of the ex-slaves, ran to meet an elk head-on. He slammed his fists into the elk. Using vital energy, he was able to send the elk skidding back.

Others began to take part in the fight, testing their use of vital energy while trying not to get hurt.

There were, however, one or two that needed to go to Visha for healing. There is never a fight without casualties. But Visha would not allow any of them to die.

If either her or Xeno saw someone in imminent danger, they would step in to push the elk back.

Some darted between the elk, giving precision strikes, attempting to stop it from moving. But they soon learned that these creatures did not stop for anything.

The first elk was killed under Alair’s hand. She managed to sever its head from its body. This caused the others to understand that only by completely severing the head would the elk stop.

Since then, precision strikes were no more, and everyone was trying to rip the head of an elk.

They were having their fight, and Uri was having one of his own. Xeno and Visha both sent a message for him to be careful.

Though they knew he would not die, it was better to be practical. Uri reassured them. Even if the enemy looks weak, he would never let his guard down.

With the elk being so big, it was even more of a reason for him to keep his guard up.

He lunged, moving quickly towards the target. Despite Uri sending a beam to the elk’s throat, it still tried to make a sound.

It let out a shriek, hoping to incapacitate Uri. When it noticed that it didn’t work, it charged towards him.

The heavy thudding of its hooves shook the earth it trampled.

Uri moved with an agility that made Visha’s heart patter. He and the elk were locked in battle. Uri punched the elk, his fist coated in vital energy.

He experienced the elk dodging and knew this was no ordinary corrupt beast. The wolves they encountered before didn’t understand what dodging was.

This elk knew how to protect itself. Uri ducked under a sweeping antler. He punched the elk in the side, sending it skidding. The elk grunted before charging at Uri again.

The elk once again attempted to use its bugle. Rather than a sound, what came out was viscous black blood.

Uri raised an eyebrow. He needed to end this quickly. If the elk spewed blood on purpose, then it knew what its blood could do. Uri did not want such a monster to leave his hands.

He used his devouring skill, quickly wrapping it around the head of the elk. The dark coloured energy circled the elk. The elk that was charging suddenly stopped.

It was still standing, but it was as though it had lost its energy. Uri released it. It would be silly to say he was curious, but that was the reason.

The beast was charging towards him. Yet as soon as it met his devouring energy, it stopped moving. Uri removed the energy from the elk’s head. What he saw surprised him.

The elk’s head was normal. Not normal in the sense of being alive. But normal because there was no black sludge coming from its skin.

His amazement lasted only a moment before he saw the corruption spreading again. He didn’t need to think about it. He used his energy an encapsultated the elk.

He severed its head from its body. The elk dropped with a bang to the ground. Another unexpected thing to happen was...

Uri could feel his energy reserve being replenished. He did not dwell on the sensation. Only clenching his fist. His eyes flickered back to the elk before going back to the group.

When he arrived, he saw those who fought the elk panting. The fight was over, and they had won. There were no casualties.

"Take them away from here. We will deal with the bodies," Uri told Krag while walking toward Xeno and Visha.

He did not want others to know what he could do until he spoke to the two about it.

Krag only gave a small nod before having everyone leave. The Stone-horn tribe and River clan were stunned and allowed themselves to be carried away.

"Looks like they know about vital energy," Visha joked.

Then she saw Uri’s clenched hands. She pursed her lips and waited until they were far enough away from them.

"Something’s wrong. Don’t tell me there isn’t," Visha immediately exclaimed when it was just the three of them.

"It would be best if I show you rather than tell you."

Visha and Xeno nodded, waiting to see what Uri would do.
