Chapter 206: Cleaning corruption

Uri paused for a moment. The corruption on the other elk was visible. The grass around them had gone black as well. He looked in the direction the other had disappeared.

Sure they had left, he used his power. He wasn’t entirely sure it would work since they were already dead, but he tried just the same. The devouring power swirled around the carcasses.

Before long, Uri retracted his power. He nodded when he saw the result. Xeno and Visha, who were also watching, could not keep their composure.

Surprise swam through their bond. Their hearts were racing. Visha’s eyes were wide, Xeno’s mouth dropped. Uri’s surprise was less because he had experienced it before.

But that did not mean he had no reaction at all.

"I just found out. The elk," he gestured some distance away to the one he killed. "It died when the corruption was gone. And...it comes to me as vital energy."

When Xeno and Visha heard that, they were even more stunned. If only they had known about vital energy earlier, they wouldn’t have a problem fighting the wolves.

But knowing Uri could get stronger from those things, Visha shook his arm excitedly.

"Amazing! That’s...that’s...amazing!"

Visha wasn’t sure how else to express herself. She kept shaking Uri’s arm. Xeno, on the other hand, did just what his brain told him. He grabbed IUri’s face and kissed him. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚

Xeno pulled away from Uri, still holding his face. "Next time we run into those things. You can take care of it." He laughed.

They had no idea whether they would run into the corruption again. Regardless, they had Uri. It gets rid of those beasts, and it makes him stronger.

After celebrating, they left the animal carcasses. Since there was no corruption, they could naturally decompose.

What they didn’t know was that not long after they left, a certain someone came and found the animals free of corruption.

The approval in their eyes denoted that they expected the result.

Rejoining the group, they decided to travel a distance before stopping for the day. The sight of the corrupted beasts had shaken their morale. They would need time to adjust, as well as an explanation.

When they finally settled down, the trio decided to explain what they knew. Not only to the leaders of each tribe but to everyone.

Though this explanation did not include one about vital energy. Seeing is fine. They have no obligation to let them in on the things the tribe practices.

Visha began the story as best she could. "For what happened today, the best way to explain it is to say they are strange beasts. We saw them for the first time after winter last year."

"At that time, there were only ten of us. Two of which were cubs. They came out of the underbrush and attacked. Their blood is poisonous. If not for my skills, most of us would have died that day."

"We don’t know where they are from or why they roam the forests. We only know that the best way to identify them is by their smell. It’s the first thing you notice. So it gives you time to run."

She paused, tucking her hair behind her ear. "This time, we ran into them, and it was stranger than the last time. Last time, there was no clear leader. They came and attacked without instinct."

"This time, there was a leader. We aren’t sure if they’re advancing or if they have always had leaders. As for how we fight them. I’m sorry, this method is specific to our tribe."

She said this specifically to the River Clan and Stone-horn tribe.

"What I can suggest is that you ask one of the ruling clans. They should know something about this. The large tribes should actually know about them, but refuse to tell others."

Visha spoke as much as she could. There was not much else she could tell them without them asking where she heard the information. And she is not willing to tell them anything about the system.

Gorn’s face was wrinkled. His jaw was tense. He rested hishands on his knees.

"There are tribes that know about those things?"

"We suspect so. We know of one in particular only because a situation arose and we had to know."

Visha did not say outright that it was Kaelen who confirmed that others might know. It would be best if no one knew that he said anything.

He was a part of their tribe now, and they would not put him in harm’s way. It was also possible that the eagle tribe would be at the festival. They did not want them to have any reason make Kaelen appear as a traitor.

Giving information about the tribe as he did, though small. It was still enough. Because things like the creatures are apparently secrets. And it could be seen just how secret it was if even the River Clan, who visited multiple tribes, were not aware of it.

"Don’t talk about it or mention it to others," Xeno advised. I think there are many things that tribes like ours don’t know. And we don’t know what will happen if we do say anything."

"They’re hiding it for a reason. We don’t know what the reason is. So it’s best if we pretend we don’t know anything at all."

Gorn nodded. Yes, it would be best if people thought that they knew nothing. He did not want his tribe to have any troubles.

As they spoke about the festival, the tense atmosphere relaxed. Though the thought of the creatures was still in the back of their minds, they did not allow it to further dampen their spirits.

That night, they slept closer together than normal. Everyone was afraid they would see the creatures again. The Spiritfang tribe, knowing how to kill them, did bring some comfort to the other two tribes.

If they could not help them, it would be best if they did not hinder them.
