Chapter 107: Chapter 107: The Mask Unveiled

Luke’s eyes narrowed. "You... Hannah Simmons? No, that’s not right. You’re Sierra Ling now, I suppose."

A shrill giggle escaped the woman’s lips. "You are a sharp one, aren’t you? Yes, I was disguised as ’Hannah Simmons.’ Now that I’ve shed that useless persona, there’s no reason to hide my true self."

Luke’s gaze flickered with anger. "So you were the real agent of Apollo’s plan. Perola and Laura Adams are on Hazel’s side, not yours."

He clenched his fists. "You deceived me—no, you deceived everyone."

Sierra Ling’s smile broadened. "I needed you all out of the way while I prepared the perfect environment for the Fort Snail to ascend.

Hazel Ross is essential for my lord’s apotheosis—no matter what your precious Fallen Angels think they can do to protect her."

Elias tensed, arcs of sound energy already crackling around his palms. "If you think we’ll hand Hazel over, you’re beyond deluded." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Luke, incensed by his own oversight, allowed a hint of dark magic to coil around him. Though he was primarily a mage of several elemental talents, fury twisted his aura into something more primal. He leveled a cold stare at Sierra Ling. "Elias, take Hazel and go. I’ll finish her off myself."

Hazel opened her mouth to protest, but Luke’s stern gaze silenced her. He’d never looked more resolute. He felt personally betrayed, as though his trust—limited as it was—had been used to endanger the one person he’d vowed to protect.

Sierra Ling merely laughed. "You can try, Luke, but the poison is already in the air." Her veins pulsed with a toxic luminescence, the raindrops around her sizzling on contact with the expanding cloud of venom.

"This again," Luke snarled, lifting a hand. Flickers of black flame danced across his fingers, formed from a potent mixture of his shadow and fire mastery. "I’ll incinerate that poison, along with you."

Elias braced himself beside Hazel, protective tension thrumming in his stance. "We’ll only get one chance at this. The demon horde is rising, and the snail’s power is thick in the atmosphere. Let’s not waste a second."

Hazel took a shaky breath and let her eyes flutter closed for a moment. She could sense something emanating from Sierra Ling—some twisted affinity for toxins that threatened to seep into her mind.

But with firm resolve, she forced the sensation aside. Luke’s presence, steady and unyielding, bolstered her confidence.

Sierra Ling’s laughter rang out. "Come on, then. Show me how strong you really are." She raised both hands, conjuring swirling waves of virulent miasma. Even the fierce downpour did little to dispel the poisonous mist.

Instead, it mingled with the storm, forming acidic puddles on the broken ground far below.

Luke answered with a single, scorching blast of black flame. The air warped under the heat, droplets of rain evaporating into plumes of steam.

Sierra Ling countered by condensing her poisonous aura, pushing it forward in a suffocating wave. The clash sent whorls of steam and noxious gas streaming outward, as though the sky itself had fractured under their collision.

For one heart-stopping moment, a bolt of lightning streaked overhead, illuminating the battlefield. Luke and Sierra Ling appeared frozen in time, magic flaring around them in a deadly halo.

Elias stood protectively near Hazel, prepared to teleport them away at the first opening.

And so began the confrontation that would either save Hazel Ross from being exploited—or leave the entire region drowned in the fury of the Fort Snail’s awakening and the ambitions of the dark forces that sought to harness it.

Luke hovered in midair, staring down at the terrain below. Torrential rain lashed at the cracked streets and battered rooftops of the elevated Lion City, which remained perched like an otherworldly fortress on the back of the colossal Fort Snail.

A distant rumble of thunder drew his attention for a moment, but he quickly refocused on the figure before him—someone who went by the name Sierra Ling.

Moments earlier, Hazel Ross and Elias Vaughn had departed to find safety and distance, given the monstrous chaos erupting around the snail.

Now Luke alone confronted this deceptively youthful figure, who openly boasted a high standing in the Black Sect. Her slight frame and girlish features clashed starkly with the deadly aura that flickered around her.

Sierra Ling, who had once masqueraded as a seemingly harmless student known as Hannah Simmons, laughed quietly.

The sound was almost lost in the thunder and sheets of rain. Yet Luke heard it loud and clear. There was a shrill, manic quality to it—like glass scraping over stone.

"I must say," Sierra Ling began, her voice carrying despite the downpour, "I never expected the famous tutor Luke to be so difficult to manipulate. You have more power than most give you credit for."

Luke said nothing at first, merely tightening his jaw. The swirling darkness of his partial demonic aura still lingered around him, vestiges of the transformation he had revealed moments ago.

His mind replayed Sierra Ling’s earlier words—her open invitation to join the Black Sect, and her mocking suggestion that Luke’s abilities were only "a little strength."

He pictured Hazel Ross’s expression before she and Elias left: a mix of worry and trust. She believed he could handle this. He intended to prove her right.

"You called yourself Poison Boy earlier," Luke said at length, arms crossing over his chest. "But then you also claim you’re ’Sierra Ling.’ Care to explain who you really are?"

Sierra Ling flipped wet strands of hair off her forehead. "Who I am is of no consequence to you. For a time, I used the identity Hannah Simmons at the Celestial Academy.

It was a convenient cover, one that got me close to certain...assets. But, since my disguise is blown, there’s no point pretending I’m some run-of-the-mill student anymore."

Luke narrowed his eyes. "You were nothing like the lesser Black Sect members I’ve come across in the past. Your power’s on a different level. So, you’re one of Cardinal Apollo’s direct subordinates?"
