Became a Demon with Pregnancy System-Chapter 137: Laurence Mann
She bit down a curse at his forwardness but saw molten fire splash right where she’d been standing.
"You bastards from the Judgment Society are attacking the city’s supply line!" the foreman shouted. "Everyone, help me—they’re trying to sabotage us!"
Guards and other staff rushed in, some conjuring elemental defenses, others leveling weapons. They outnumbered Luke’s group significantly.
Lenora cut a glare at Luke. "We can’t kill them. We have to confirm the sabotage, not become fugitives. This is a trap if we overdo it."
Luke nodded. "Right. Let me handle it."
He spread his fingers, and a surging telekinetic wave clamped down on the foreman. The man’s attempt to amplify the Flame Rain fizzled as he gagged on sudden pressure. "What—" he coughed, blood trickling from his lips. "How are you...this strong?"
Walter Murphy glanced at the battered crates, petrified. "Is it really happening? Mentor Luke was right—someone’s incinerating evidence."
Seeing the general chaos, Lenora had had enough. She let her Stone Titan power shine in her eyes. Jagged earthen spikes erupted from the ground, deterring other staff from attacking. "Either yield or face Judgment Society law," she commanded fiercely.
Some recoiled in fear, but others rallied, shouting, "They’re criminals! Catch them!" They hurled mid-level spells, only to be blocked by swirling shards of stone or Luke’s black flame barrier.
A short distance away, Luke unceremoniously pinned the foreman to the ground with mental force, halting the incantation.
"We don’t want to burn the place down," he said coolly, "so stop resisting. Let us do our inspection."
The burly man struggled, veins bulging. "You...trespass... This is sabotage!"
Luke ignored his protests. He looked to Walter. "Time’s short. We have to find the real crates quickly—before reinforcements arrive."
Walter nodded, scanning the rows of cargo. "There’s another sub-warehouse out back—the staff never let me see inside. Maybe that’s where they hid the defective blood agent."
"Perfect," Luke said. To Lenora: "You good here?"
Lenora raised a brow. "I’ll manage. Just hurry."
He gave a short nod. "Walter, lead the way." Then he extended a final telekinetic shove, sending the foreman into unconsciousness.
Luke and Walter jogged past cowering workers, darting around sporadic spells cast by loyal guards. They reached a sturdy metal door.
"Storeroom No. B-14," read a faded sign overhead. Walter tapped his ID, but the lock blinked red: Access Denied.
"Figures," Walter muttered. "Councilor Mann probably revoked all my credentials."
"Then we do it the direct way," Luke said. He placed a palm on the metal surface, unleashing a controlled burst of telekinesis. The lock screeched, and the door flew open with a clang.
Inside, a pungent chemical scent hit them. Rows of unlabeled wooden crates filled the narrow space. Walter coughed, eyes watering. "What is this? Certainly not standard formula. The smell is too harsh."
Luke pried open a crate, revealing vials of murky, off-color liquid. "This must be the tampered batch. Exactly the kind of evidence we need."
Walter’s face blanched. "If these were shipped to the military...who knows how many lives would be lost?"
Luke pocketed a few vials carefully. "Enough to implicate the real culprit—Laurence Mann."
From outside, renewed clamor arose: more staff, likely armed with new orders. Luke and Walter hurried back to where Lenora contended with an ever-growing number of security.
She now faced a half-dozen mages, her Stone Titan powers deflecting hailstorms of magic. Earthen barriers half-filled the warehouse, and fallen guards littered the floor.
"You got it?" she yelled over the din.
Luke lifted the small crate. "Yes. Let’s go while we can."
Lenora gritted her teeth, using her powers to petrify the ankles of the last few defenders. "Stop resisting or I’ll bury you up to your necks!" she warned.
Though many glared, they had no answer to her advanced magic. At last, they parted, letting Luke and Walter slip through with the evidence.
Blood stained the edges of stone spikes, but no one had been killed—Lenora had carefully avoided lethal force.
In the open yard, half a dozen more men approached. But the group simply pressed forward, unafraid. Their unstoppable synergy—Luke’s telekinesis and dark flames, Lenora’s Stone Titan control—kept the staff at bay.
Once they reached the perimeter, they vanished into the night, climbing over battered fences. Sirens blared in the distance.
Latecomers would find a battered warehouse, bruised staff, and suspiciously intact crates of stolen evidence.
Mere minutes later, Laurence Mann arrived at White Town, dark robes trailing. His sharp gaze swept over the battered scene, the faint smolder of flame, and the groaning employees. One guard stumbled forth, saluting shakily. "Sir...they got away."
Mann’s face contorted in anger. "You imbeciles," he snapped. "They’ve acquired proof. This is dire."
"They— they used Stone Titan magic and some strange black flames. I— we couldn’t—"
"Silence," Mann snapped. "Spread the word they attacked a military site, sought to sabotage the supply. Accuse them of treason if you must."
His minions nodded, understanding the plan: spin the narrative to brand Luke and Lenora as criminals.
And, if possible, blame everything on the Totem Serpent. Mann’s eyes glowed with malevolence.
He’d ensure the serpent’s destruction, and any meddling do-gooders who tried to shield it would be labeled accomplices.
Within White Town—the transportation hub for major fortress supplies—the crowd was in a whirl of confusion. Soldiers, probationary judges from the Judgment Council, and subordinates of Councilor Laurence Mann all converged after hearing that someone had attacked the blood agent depot in the dead of night.
Most arrived in an indignant mood, prepared to punish the culprits. But when these soldiers and probationary judges discovered that the intruder was Lenora Quinn, they froze in disbelief.
"Vice Presiding Judge Quinn... raiding a blood agent depot at midnight? What’s going on?"
A soldier, who appeared to be an officer, stepped forward to negotiate with Lenora. "Judge Lenora Quinn, what is the meaning of this?"
"There’s a problem with the blood agent," Lenora stated curtly. "I intend to investigate thoroughly."
