Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Fight me or stand aside

"A problem with the blood agent?" The officer sounded shocked. The blood agent is a vital resource for soldiers at major fortresses.

If it were compromised, the consequences would be unimaginable.

"Presiding Judge Lenora Quinn," the officer went on, "the blood agent has always been overseen by Councilor Laurence Mann. Without solid evidence, we can’t allow you to check it. Moreover, there’s never been any reported accident among soldiers who use blood potions, so it might be best if Councilor Mann faced you in person."

He clearly hoped she would see reason. But instead, Lenora walked straight past him, heading directly toward the depot’s main storage area.

"If you won’t help, get out of my way. Don’t waste my time," she snapped, her tone icy.

Yet Laurence Mann’s subordinates were also present—many with questionable backgrounds and multiple lives on their conscience.

Some were even high-level mages in his personal employ. Seeing Lenora refuse any compromise, these enforcers clustered in front of the depot to bar her path.

"Well then," Lenora said, eyes flashing. "I was only guessing something was wrong before. Now I’m certain. If you keep obstructing a Judgment Council investigation, you’ll share the same guilt once the truth emerges."

But these men had thrown in their lot with Mann. If he went down, so did they.

They had no intention of backing off; their task was to stall until Laurence Mann arrived to handle the situation.

"Great, I see." Lenora’s gaze darkened. "Luke, come lend a hand!"

She expected Luke to be right behind her. But when no response came, she looked around and realized Luke was missing entirely!

"Damn it—did he run off when trouble started?" Lenora fumed.

Nearby, Walter Murphy swallowed nervously and piped up, "Senior Sister Len—um, Judge Quinn—Mentor Luke said an even stronger opponent was on the way, so he left to find powerful backup!"

Lenora’s mouth twisted in anger.

"Backup, my foot. He’s just scared." She let out a frustrated snarl, though an odd note of disappointment crept into her voice. Right when things get rough, that guy vanishes?

She shook off the thought. "Fine. If Laurence Mann arrives with reinforcements, he’ll likely wipe or replace the suspicious blood agent. We can’t afford to wait."

Suddenly, a resonant wolf’s howl echoed from the far edge of White Town, followed by the sight of four black-and-red wings blotting out the moonlit sky.

A massive beast with shining white flames around its chest soared up—Luke had transformed into the Skywing Wolf, overshadowing the entire landscape.

"Wh-what is that?"

"A Monarch-level demon beast?"

Cries of alarm spread among the assembled crowds, including Lenora Quinn.

"Could that be the support Luke mentioned?" she murmured, eyes wide.

Usually, summoning a beast of that caliber demanded elaborate rituals—if that colossal wolf was truly Luke’s backup, the cost must have been immense.

For an instant, guilt pricked Lenora for doubting him.

But instead of flying her way, the gigantic Skywing Wolf hovered at White Town’s perimeter. A billowing darkness extended around it.

Lenora narrowed her eyes, recognizing the Shadow Verse domain. "He’s intercepting Laurence Mann? So Mann must be arriving right now!" That realization spurred her into action. The depot was her responsibility.

She swung back to face the eight high-level mages blocking her path—Laurence Mann’s men. "You’re in my way. You can’t run from the truth forever."

Her tone carried renewed resolve. "I see what it takes to remove a corrupt councilor from power—it’s never simple." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Sand and pale-yellow magic began swirling around Lenora, triggered by her Stone Titan synergy. She was like a queen of grits, her powers forming a rapidly expanding swirl of sand at her feet.

"Fight me or stand aside!"

The eight high-level mages exchanged glances. Their leader, a hulking, rough-looking man, had just watched the giant wolf’s ascension.

For a moment, he’d been emboldened by Mann’s imminent arrival—but that sky-splitting creature drained any confidence of victory.

Now he had to delay Lenora. "Councilor Mann is on his way—so even if you’re a vice presiding judge, do you really think you’ll walk out of here unscathed?"

But Lenora’s focus didn’t waver. She unleashed her Stone Titan domain, Veil of Heaven, summoning a dense flurry of pale-yellow grains.

With her at the center, these sands whirled like a tangible skirt, forming lethal shapes in response to her gestures.

Within seconds, she manipulated the sand into sharply pointed weapons, launching them at the eight opponents with ruthless precision.

Even though they were high-level, none boasted advanced Spirit Seeds or the refined synergy Lenora commanded.

"Hmph...eight of you is somewhat troublesome," Lenora muttered. With a flick of her wrist, two enemies toppled under a barrage of sand spears. Another reeled back, blood streaming from a torn shoulder.

"Councilor Mann’s already here—you dare keep going?" the rough man yelled hoarsely. "If we hold you off, we’ll be praised, not punished!"

Despite his bluster, his confidence frayed as he saw two of his companions collapse. Regardless, he and two others began constructing super-level magic to counterattack.

Lenora let out a cool breath. "Do it, then." She whipped her sandlike aura forward—but the three mages completed their star diagrams in unison:

Sky Flame Funeral – Rain of Flames!Frozen Coffin – Heavenly Tomb!

A fierce flame-laden deluge engulfed the air, while two colossal ice coffins slammed down from above. The storms of fire and ice combined, smashing directly into Lenora’s swirling sand barrier.

Veil of Heaven – Absolute Defense! she intoned, intensifying the layers of swirling grit.

The flame rain spattered harmlessly, but the twin ice coffins crashed through the sand, forcing her to dodge with a quick wind-based movement.

One coffin grazed her arm, drawing a thin line of blood. Her Veil of Heaven dispersed, grains scattering.

She scowled. They’re persistent—and I can’t re-form my sand veil instantly. The eight pressed their advantage, well aware she was temporarily vulnerable.

"Haha!" the rough man crowed. "We’ll finish the vice presiding judge of the Judgment Council! Our fee after this will skyrocket."
