Became a Demon with Pregnancy System-Chapter 43: I’m Face Blind
The military forces began a hasty retreat. While they had fought alongside the demons temporarily, they knew this alliance was fleeting. The Female Wolf King, now in her full power, was not an ally to rely on for long.
Zach, along with the Demon Wolf Legion, watched them leave. The Female Wolf King’s gaze lingered on the humans, filled with an almost predatory curiosity, but she did not attack.
"Zach, we’re pulling out. The credit for this battle belongs to you," Caden said, touching the blood on his face—a trophy of battle.
The Southern Military Region hadn’t seen such a monumental victory in years: three monarch-level demons slain and tens of thousands of enemy demons wiped out.
Zach nodded. "Get moving, quickly."
He couldn’t explain why the Female Wolf King held back, but he suspected it had something to do with Luke.
"Zach, where’s Marissa Jones? Hand her over to us now," demanded Morgan Jones, his piercing gaze locked on Zach.
Zach felt the weight of the demand. If he said the wrong thing, Morgan might lose his temper. But the truth was, Marissa had been taken by Luke for treatment, and her current condition was... complicated.
"Marissa was poisoned when we rescued her," Zach explained, choosing his words carefully. "Luke had a demon wolf take her to a trusted healer. She’s being treated as we speak."
"Nonsense!" Morgan roared. "You handed her over to a demon? They’re not your summoned beasts!"
"What else could I have done at the time?" Zach retorted, his patience thinning.
Morgan opened his mouth to argue further but stopped when he saw the logic in Zach’s response.
"Fine. Where is she now?" Morgan demanded.
"She was sent to the Southeast Military Region’s headquarters. A military doctor is overseeing her treatment," Zach replied, keeping his expression neutral.
Morgan nodded reluctantly. "If she’s safe, I’ll honor my promise. But if anything happens to her..."
Without finishing his sentence, Morgan turned and left with his companions. All three were injured, and Mason Jones had a particularly nasty wound on his abdomen that needed immediate attention.
With the humans gone, the Blue Wolf Valley returned to an eerie silence.
The One-Eyed Demon Wolves and Bone-Spur Wolves wasted no time devouring the essence and spirits left behind on the battlefield.
The spoils of this battle would strengthen Luke’s clan significantly. Hundreds of wolves would advance to higher stages, and the number of Three-Eyed Demon Wolves would reach nearly a thousand.
In terms of overall power, Luke’s tribe had undergone a tremendous transformation. With time, Luke could refine the souls and bodies of the wolves, potentially raising several of them to Commander level.
"Zach, where’s Luke? I need to see him," Chloe Carter’s voice interrupted the silence.
Zach turned, surprised to see her still there. "What do you need him for?"
Her expression darkened, and Zach noticed for the first time that one side of her face seemed slightly swollen.
"Wait... is your face swollen? Who in the Southern Military Region would dare hit you?" Zach asked, his tone laced with disbelief.
Chloe glared at him, her eyes blazing. "If you say another word, I’ll kill you. Now, tell me where Luke is."
Zach gulped and hesitated. He couldn’t betray Luke’s location, but Chloe’s resolve was undeniable.
Before he could respond, a familiar figure appeared behind him.
"Zach, is everything settled?" Luke asked, his tone casual. He looked as if he had just woken from a refreshing nap, his expression calm and confident.
"Chloe, what are you still doing here?" Luke added, his brow furrowing slightly.
Chloe took a step forward, her gaze unwavering. "Luke, I came to find you."
"What for?" Luke asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I’m here to issue a challenge," Chloe declared. "One year from now, we’ll fight again. If you win, I’ll let you take back the humiliation you gave me. But if you lose, I’ll be yours to command."
Luke blinked, processing her words. A slow grin spread across his face.
"Deal. A word is a certainty," Luke replied, his voice firm.
Chloe nodded, a small smile tugging at her lips. "See you in a year. Don’t think you’ll win so easily."
As she walked away, Zach looked between the two of them, his mind spinning.
"What just happened?" Zach muttered to himself, feeling as though he’d missed something important.
After Chloe Carter left, Luke re-transformed into his Skywing Wolf form and soared toward the Female Wolf King.
The Female Wolf King, the true overlord of Nanling, was a crucial ally, and Luke knew he had to secure her favor. Without her influence, there was always a risk that another race, like the Inferno Wolves, might rise to challenge him in the future.
"Whew~~~"
Luke approached the Female Wolf King and let out a low, respectful howl to announce his presence.
His plan was straightforward. First, he would express his condolences for the loss of the Male Wolf King. Then, he would present his contributions to the battle for supremacy, ensuring that his role was recognized and rewarded.
But before he could say a word, the Female Wolf King turned her back to him, wrapped her snow-white velvet tail around his, and hooked them together. The way their tails intertwined formed the shape of a heart.
Luke’s mind went blank.
What is happening?!
Memories of his past life flashed through his head. He recalled the time a rich woman in a Ferrari winked at him while he was eating instant noodles—a moment of opportunity he had failed to grasp.
But this time, Luke was uncertain. Did he even want to "sit in the Ferrari"?
Luke cautiously glanced at the Female Wolf King. She was looking back at him, blinking slowly as if flirting.
"..."
Luke froze.
His first thought: What is going on?
His second thought: What am I supposed to do now?!
If the Female Wolf King wanted to escalate things, Luke knew that his current strength as a mid-level commander would be no match for her.
Luckily, the Female Wolf King only blinked a few more times before letting out an earth-shattering roar. She then turned and led her pack out of Blue Wolf Valley.
The devastation left in the South Ridge was immense, and as the overlord, the Female Wolf King had responsibilities. She needed to reward loyal tribes, punish traitors, and stabilize her territory.
Luke exhaled deeply, glancing at his reflection in the water.
"So this is the burden of being too charismatic," he muttered.
"What were you two talking about?" Zach asked, his face full of curiosity.
"Adult matters, kid. Don’t interfere," Luke replied dismissively.
Zach raised an eyebrow but didn’t press further.
Spreading his wings, Luke flew high above Blue Wolf Valley, his mournful howl echoing across the landscape. The other demon wolves, hearing his call, stopped their feasting and joined in, their cries filling the air in a solemn tribute to their fallen comrades.
War was always accompanied by loss, but the casualties this time were heavier than Luke had anticipated.
Closing his eyes for a moment, Luke reflected on the harsh realities of the demon world. Without strength, survival was impossible. This was a world even crueler than the human one.
When his moment of silence ended, Luke turned to Wolf One and gestured for it to approach.
"Here, take these," he said, handing over fragments of a spirit seed.
After months of cultivation, Luke had amassed a considerable number of spirit seed fragments. These fragments could serve as food for a year, though fully formed spirit seeds were still rare. Only two had been formed so far, and they were still in the early stages of development.
Wolf One’s eyes widened in surprise. For months, it had only been able to watch others feast on the fragments of fire spirit seeds. Now, it finally had the chance to taste one.
"Absorb them, grow stronger. You need to be worthy of your fallen comrades," Luke instructed, gesturing toward the countless demon corpses scattered across the battlefield.
For any demon race, these corpses were a treasure trove of strength. Though Luke could have absorbed the essence himself, he knew that nurturing his pack was equally important.
Luke then spread his wings and returned to Blue Wolf Valley.
By now, Luke estimated that Marissa Jones should be awake.
"I wonder what her reaction will be," he thought with a smirk.
Landing near the cave where Marissa was recovering, Luke spotted Tanya Reed and Zoe Miller lingering outside. They were clearly up to something.
"Tanya, Zoe, what are you two doing here?" Luke asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Luke, you’re back!" Tanya greeted him, flashing an awkward smile. "How did things go?"
"Of course we won," Luke replied confidently.
Tanya grinned. "I knew you’d win."
"Don’t change the subject. Why are you two hanging around here?" Luke pressed.
"Oh, we were just checking on your new ’third sister,’" Tanya teased, a knowing look in her eyes.
"Third sister?" Luke asked, confused. "How do you know about that?"
Zoe pouted, her lips forming a slight frown. "We’ve been waiting here for hours, but she hasn’t woken up yet."
Zoe’s frustration was evident. While Tanya’s beauty and figure outclassed hers, Zoe at least felt young and lively. But Marissa? She eclipsed both of them in every way.
Luke laughed. "Actually, I’m a bit face blind. Beauty doesn’t mean much to me. If she can have kids, that’s all I care about."
Zoe rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed by Luke’s words.
Laughing, Luke patted both Tanya and Zoe on the head.
"Wait for me outside. This won’t take long," he said as he confidently entered the cave.
Tanya and Zoe exchanged glances before simultaneously raising their hands.
"One, two, three—"
Bang!
A vine whip lashed out, smacking Luke’s back as he disappeared into the cave.
