Became a Demon with Pregnancy System-Chapter 44: Was I really saved by a demon?
As Luke emerged into the cave, a thick green vine leaped toward him in a combination of speed and ferocity full of surprise.
Luke’s eyelids did some minor flickers. Marissa Jones, it seemed, was not the type to let things slide that easily.
He made a nonchalant swipe with his hand, cutting off the vine, which was then projected harmlessly into the rock wall next to him. He dusted off his hands and strode deeper into the cavern with a calm demeanor, as if nothing had happened.
Marissa sat curled into one corner, a splash of scarlet spilling over her shoulders, her pale skin tinted with a rosy blush, her eyes brimming wetly, her face pockmarked with the faint traces of tears.
He paused, his expression softening when he saw her; the strong, proud Marissa collapsed into a shadow of herself, looking small, vulnerable.
Stalking closer, he sighed, his tone gentler than usual. "Marissa—"
"Don’t come any closer!" she glared at him, her voice carburizing with anger and shame.
"Out!"
Her trembling hands grabbed at her exposes form, uselessly trying to shield herself from him. But her slim arms could not hide the elegant curves of her figure, not even with the matted frame hair offering scant cover by allowing more disorder.
Realizing her agitated state, Luke ground to a halt and turned his gaze elsewhere; a mix of neutrality and placidity hung in his expression.
"You are clearly not in a state to talk. Let me come back later," he simply said.
He turned to leave. With the Fire Demon Wolves
done away with and Blue Wolf Valley now taken care of by the Female Wolf King, Luke now had time. The immediate threats to his territory were out of the way, and he could afford to wait for Marissa to come to grips with the new situation.
Harmony was indeed the key to building solid ties.
"Wait."
Luke froze, caught by Marissa’s light cry. Her disjointed voice grasped him with a combination of fear and determination.
Her hands were trembling slightly, her face pale but resolved. She longed to stifle whatever emotions had surged into her heart.
Marissa vividly remembers everything that happened; it felt as though her body had betrayed her. Like it had a mind of its own, it moved without the permission of her soul, shut away in a dark dungeon, forced to watch locked in horror as everyone else seemed to be enjoying a never-ending nightmare
But she has to admit that her body had gone beyond her control. Luke hd somehow forced the tide of nature to engulf her, which burned her face with shame.
However, one thing Marissa knew for sure was that Luke had saved her life.
"Thank you," she said finally meeting his gaze. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
Luke raised an eyebrow; he had not expected such an innocent change.
"Don’t turn around," she added with some haste, noticing Luke’s movement. "I’m not dressed... This is not used to doing this."
Luke gave a long sigh and turned his back; this was for her own good. Damn women! They are so complicated.
"I know that you saved me," Marissa continued, her tone softening. "And I know that none of this was your fault."
This time she hesitated as though looking for a few choice words. "You don’t have to feel responsible for me. If you ever need anything, the Joneses will owe you. You can come to me for any help whenever you like."
Another long silence stretched out, and then in a much smaller voice, "So... could you find me something to wear?"
Luke turned slightly and fixed his penetrating gaze on her.
Marissa shrank back into herself under his glare, her cheeks growing still hotter.
"What are you doing?" she asked nervously.
"Not responsible?" Luke scoffed, his tone laced with disbelief.
"What, so you think you can just walk away after everything that’s happened? Your chastity is valuable, but mine isn’t?"
Marissa’s face turned an even deeper shade of red. She had no rebuttal to his words. Luke had saved her life, yet she had tried to dictate the terms of their interaction.
"Then what do you want from me?" she asked hesitantly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Luke’s expression softened slightly, but his answer was resolute. "I want you to stay here and be my woman."
Marissa’s eyes widened in shock. "What?! No! Absolutely not! I’m a daughter of the Jones family! My marriage isn’t something I can decide on a whim!"
Luke studied her reaction with amusement, letting her words hang in the air.
She doesn’t understand her situation at all, he thought.
Without a word, Luke vanished from her sight, leaving Marissa momentarily stunned. Moments later, he reappeared, holding a grass skirt he had woven with practiced ease.
"Put this on," he said, tossing it to her. "Then come with me. You’ll understand soon enough."
Marissa hesitated but eventually donned the grass skirt. Despite its simplicity, the garment fit her surprisingly well, its craftsmanship betraying Luke’s skill.
As she stood, a sharp pain shot through her body, causing her to wince. She bit her lip and forced herself forward, curiosity and determination propelling her steps.
The scene that befell Marissa after she made her way out of the cave was enough to hold a sob of shock in her throat.
Demons.
They completely packed the valley-the One-Eyed Demon Wolves and Bone-Spur Wolves moved in gruesome packs, their number more than enough to overwhelm. In the midst of them stood the Flame Demon Wolf, entirely wreathed in a gloomy air of dominion.
Such a sight was unreal; it wore off an alien gloss.
"How... how is this possible?" Marissa managed to murmur, her voice tremulous.
She flicked her head from the wolves to Luke, standing at their meeting point, in front, in majestic authority as though commanding his subjects.
She pinched herself, praying that she would wake up from this living nightmare. However, this was real enough to cause her pain.
Her mind raced back to that beastly wolf that had rescued her from the Volcanic Poison Wolf. At the time, Marissa had written it off as a figment inspired by desperation, but now...
Was I really saved by a demon?
