Became a Demon with Pregnancy System-Chapter 86: The Child
Her whole body was burning.
Luke smirked.
"Relax," he said, patting her shoulder.
"You’re misunderstanding things."
Bella glared at him.
"MISUNDERSTANDING?!"
Luke sighed.
"Listen, I came here to save them."
The man’s expression twisted.
"Save us?!" he spat.
"What kind of bullsh*t is that?!"
He angrily searched for his phone, muttering under his breath.
"That’s it... I’m calling the police."
His hands scrambled through the bedsheets.
But just as he found his phone, a small flame flickered onto it.
"SH*T!"
The man flung the burning phone across the room, barely saving himself.
His face turned pale.
"A mage...?"
His anger melted into fear.
His wife grabbed his arm, her voice shaking.
"Honey... what’s going on? Why is a mage here?"
The man gritted his teeth, his face grim.
He turned to Luke.
"What the hell do you want from us?"
Luke’s eyes darkened.
"Like I said," he replied, his tone calm but heavy,
"I’m here to save your child."
Silence filled the room.
Bella stiffened, staring at Luke in confusion.
"Save their child?" she repeated.
"What are you talking about?"
The man snorted, gripping his wife’s hand.
"Save our child?"
"Don’t make me laugh. He’s our flesh and blood."
"We would never harm him!"
Luke tilted his head, his gaze sharp.
"You wouldn’t."
"But the thing inside you would."
Both the man and woman froze, their faces paling.
Luke pointed at them.
"You’re not human anymore," he said flatly.
"You’ve been completely parasitized."
"And if nothing is done..."
He narrowed his eyes.
"That ’child’ you’re protecting... will be the first to die."
The couple didn’t believe him at first.
But then—
Memories resurfaced.
The man’s hands trembled as he recalled the hazy dreams, the strange whispers, the blackouts he had dismissed as exhaustion.
His wife’s body shuddered as she realized—
They never remembered their meals properly.
Never remembered going to sleep together.
But the pregnancy still progressed.
The truth sank in.
Their faces twisted in horror.
The woman sobbed, clutching her stomach.
The man looked at Luke, defeated.
"...We’re already dead, aren’t we?" he whispered.
Luke didn’t answer.
Instead, he turned toward Bella.
"Now do you see?"
Bella couldn’t speak.
She just nodded, pale and shaken.
Luke sighed.
"Say your goodbyes," he told them.
"I’ll be waiting in the living room."
The fate of the child would be decided tonight.
Bang!
The door burst open, its impact against the wall sending ripples down the incredibly fine wooden frame.
"HELP! SAVE ME!"
From a dim bedroom, a wild man emerged crawling, falling down to the floor as his body disobeyed him while he gasped for breath.
The face was deathly pale and cold with perspiration; it darted around like someone who has just awoken from a nightmare.
His mouth opened, though his words came out quavering and broken.
"Sh-she’s...changed...!"
Luke stood aside and silently observed as the man crawled forth with hands and knees, fingering the floorboards in jitters.
"My...my wife...SHE ISN’T HUMAN ANMORE!"
The cries tore out between hoarse, strangulated breaths while his trembling hands reached out toward Luke.
Those desperate eyes focused on him, filled with a terror that transcended human comprehension.
Suddenly, from the swathed bundle just captured in his arms came forth another living thing.
A baby.
Its little face glowed red with warmth, its tiny fingers moving just the slightest, whimpering softly, unaware of the horror surrounding.
"Please! Save my child!"
The man cried, muffling the baby to Luke; his grasp upon it was uncomfortable, as if dropping it would absolutely make himself shatter to pieces.
"I don’t care what happens to me—just protect my child, please!"
Bella White, beside Luke, was stunned.
The richness of the need in that voice cut clean into her heart.
She dared hardly hesitate one moment before advancing and taking the baby gently from his trembling hands.
Hottle under soft swaddling-clothes, she felt it all in one moment dissolve away like some uniform warmth in her heart for that innocent life.
"It’s all right," she said lightly.
"We will take care of your child."
But with the first moment she held the child in her arms.
The expression on the man’s face contorted.
His very fear was forgotten.
Replaced by what had all the world of a grin but horrendously human.
A ghastly sound grew to fill the air.
It sounded like layers of skin peeling off.
Luke’s eyes narrowed.
Bella found herself shivering with fear, an almost sickening chill crawling along her back.
The man’s clothes were ripping away, revealing the horror underneath.
His skin—
Split open like cracked porcelain.
More like leaking blue-green scales coiling over his entire body, pulsating as if they were alive with a will of their own.
His mouth came open. A grotesquely long tongue came out, sneaking from side to side, bellying up like a hungry viper.
"U̵r̵r̶g̷h̸h̵h̶..."
A throaty growl escaped from his throat, and the pupils reduced to slits.
Bella felt the contents of her stomach churn in disgust.
Her legs gave way under her, sending her tumbling backward even as she pressed the baby close.
"Luke!!" she gulped, voice all but running cold within her.
Luke took a deep breath and sighed.
"You have to take a bit of a punch, Bella," he said like it was nothing, as though there was no actual monster before them.
"You’re a mage. You are too panicked to even cast a simple spell when it’s all that matters."
Before Bella could even think to say anything more, here came the monster.
Luke’s Counterattack!
The scaled man was going to swipe at Bella’s throat with the long, clawed hand.
Bella jumped! Letting fear freeze her voice.
But before that claw could come crashing down—
Luke sprang into action.
His fist connected with the monster’s chin.
CRACK!
The impact sent a shockwave through the air.
The creature’s head twisted and cracked with the noise of a tree snapping, its whole body spinning as if a rag doll.
With a loud bang, it slammed against the wall, churning cracks throughout its face.
The scaled man lay on the ground, motionless, the twisted expression stuck in disbelief.
"How...how...?"
