Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Welcome to the real world

Luke dusted off his fist, looking unperturbed.

"It doesn’t take magic to fight against weaklings like you."

A golden flame flickered to life in his palm.

With a simple flick of his wrist, he tossed it forward

And the monster’s head ignited instantly.

Bella stood there, her mind blank, her breath ragged.

Her gaze flickered between Luke’s unbothered expression and the smoldering corpse before them.

She swallowed hard, feeling her own heart pounding violently against her ribs.

’Did he just... punch a demon to death?!

This wasn’t normal.

Even among mages, this wasn’t normal!

Bella shuddered, gripping the baby tighter.

Luke turned to her with a smirk, as if reading her thoughts.

"Something wrong?" he teased.

"You look like you’ve seen a ghost."

Bella bit her lip, hesitating.

"Luke... what kind of magic did you use?"

He chuckled.

"Magic?"

"Nah. Just my fist."

Bella’s mouth fell open.

’What kind of monster is he?!

But then—

Her eyes widened in horror.

The wife.

The real demon.

The one who changed first.

"L-Luke! The wife is still inside!"

Luke simply raised three fingers.

"Three..."

"Two..."

"One."

SCCCRRREEEEECHH!!!

A bloodcurdling scream echoed from the bedroom.

Bella turned just in time to see—

A Soul Eater Spider perched outside the window, its massive, spindly legs poised over its newest victim.

The scaled banshee was trapped, her limbs entangled in silken threads.

Her face twisted in horror, her claws struggling, but the web held firm.

The Soul Eater Spider’s eight glistening purple eyes gleamed with satisfaction.

It clicked its razor-like mandibles, weaving thicker layers of silk, cocooning its meal gracefully.

It was almost... elegant.

Luke’s eyes gleamed with amusement.

"Now that," he murmured,

"Is how you add some class to a kill."

The Soul Eater Spider continued its ritual, every motion precise, delicate, as if it were a master artisan finishing a masterpiece.

Luke crossed his arms.

"I should learn from this guy," he mused.

"When I create children in the future, I should add some ceremonial flair too."

Bella choked on air.

"LUKE, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!"

Luke simply laughed.

"Relax, Bella."

He patted her head, a devilish smirk playing on his lips.

"Welcome to the real world."

Bella could only stare.

For the first time, she realized

This man was not normal.

And yet...

She felt safer with him than ever before.

"The Trap of the Evil Spider!"

Bella White exclaimed as she stared at the ongoing battle between the Soul Eater Spider and the monstrous snake-like demon.

She turned to Luke, eyes wide in shock.

"Luke, when did you even release that magic?!"

Luke glanced at her, a hint of amusement in his gaze.

"It was already set up the moment we entered the room," he said casually.

"This kind of trap magic works best when cast silently—hidden in plain sight. If the enemy notices it, then it’s not a trap anymore, is it?"

Bella pursed her lips, feeling slightly embarrassed for not realizing it sooner.

Luke chuckled, ruffling her hair.

"Bella, you might be a healing mage right now, but sooner or later, you’re going to awaken offensive magic too. You need to prepare for every battle before it starts. Preparation wins fights, not just raw power."

Bella nodded quickly, feeling a mixture of admiration and determination.

Luke had such a strategic mind, always thinking ahead, always calculating his next move.

That was what made him so terrifying to his enemies.

The Scaly Demon was still struggling, its grotesque body entangled in the Soul Eater Spider’s dense, glistening web.

It was a warlord-level demon, yet against the pinnacle of the Soul Eater Spider race, it was as helpless as prey in a predator’s jaws.

The battle was over in minutes.

The spider’s eight gleaming eyes fixated on Luke, its mouthparts twitching as it flashed a grin.

A demonic spider grinning—it was something out of a nightmare.

Luke smirked back.

"You’re welcome," he said.

The Soul Eater Spider nodded, its eight legs tapping rhythmically before it disappeared back into the dark plane, dragging its defeated prey along.

Luke could already imagine the spider bragging to its kin—boasting about the gourmet meal it had today, courtesy of its master.

Bella stood silent for a moment, staring at the aftermath of the fight.

Then, she lowered her head.

"Luke..."

Her voice was soft, almost lost in the silence of the room.

"You’re just... so different from us."

Luke raised an eyebrow.

"You always think ahead, you’re always in control," she continued.

"Even those terrifying demons... they fear you."

There was a trace of sadness in her voice.

Bella had always thought of herself as strong.

She was proud of her lineage, of her talents as a mage.

But standing beside Luke, she suddenly felt small—like a child playing with wooden swords while a warrior wielded real steel.

Luke noticed the look on her face.

He sighed and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Listen," he said, his tone more gentle than usual.

"I’ve been through things you wouldn’t believe. My experience is... different from yours. That’s all."

He smirked, pinching her cheek lightly.

"You work hard, Bella. You’re gonna be strong—stronger than you think."

Bella blinked, her cheeks heating up at the sudden contact.

"Y-You really think so?"

Luke glanced down, as if evaluating her.

His gaze lingered for a moment—then he nodded.

"Yeah," he said.

"You have potential."

Bella beamed, her earlier sadness melting away. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

For some reason, hearing those words from Luke filled her with a sense of warmth.

Just as the moment of softness settled between them—

A cold flash of steel pressed against Luke’s neck.

A dagger.

Sharp. Thin. Drenched in dark purple venom.

A single cut—instant death.

Bella’s heart nearly stopped.

"LUKE!"

She turned, and her eyes widened in shock.

The one holding the dagger—

It was someone she knew.

Her uncle.

"Uncle Lucas White?!"

She gasped, staggering backward.

"Why are you—why are you doing this?!"
