Chapter 364: Nana and Mira Escape Outside

Nana had already run to the lowest outer ledge of the city.

But the moment she saw the scene before her, she couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath.

The colossal blades and massive mechanical bodies—right now, standing before her, were the Sentinels, except they didn’t seem to be "alive."

All of them had collapsed, sword tips driven into the ground, one knee down, upper bodies bowed as if bearing the weight of the entire city.

Nana’s breathing slowed. Only now did she realize she had backed all the way to the very edge. Behind her was an abyss, though not one of complete darkness. Looking down, she could see hazy structures stretching endlessly. This place was even larger than they had imagined. What they had seen was only the tip of an iceberg.

But what terrified Nana even more were the Sentinels scattered everywhere below the abyss. They didn’t touch the ground. They simply hovered around the architecture, all of them with their eyes tightly shut. From Nana’s angle, she could only see countless silhouettes, unable to make out the stars on their chests.

But judging from the sheer number and the variety in their forms, there were definitely Sentinels down there with ranks higher than three stars.

Damn it, those things had better never wake up.

Just a five-star Sentinel—no, even a three-star Sentinel alone was enough to throw them into utter chaos.

If not for Mira...

Nana looked upward again. Mira and that three-star Sentinel were still clashing in midair.

To think the Saintess looked like this. What a bunch of heretical freaks.

Nana thought with disdain, already planning a whole list of things to say when they returned. After all, this appearance of the Saintess was utterly unknown to the public. The Church had better offer the Aurellian family a reasonable price if they wanted this secret buried forever.

Above, the three-star Sentinel had fallen entirely at a disadvantage. Now it was Mira’s turn to strike!

Light burst from her like sharp spines, shooting out in all directions like a hedgehog. She attacked purely on instinct, but that was fine—all that mattered was that it worked.

The three-star Sentinel was unbelievably fast, yet even so, it couldn’t avoid being forced into a somewhat clumsy retreat.

Once again, the burst of sharp light flared. The pointed ends of the Sentinel’s arms glowed red, as though they were being forged in a furnace.

It made a decision.

It was shameful that it couldn’t defeat its enemy and had to resort to this, but it was alone, and it could only accept that it wasn’t a match for this opponent.

In the next instant, the Sentinel suddenly snapped its eyes open. It no longer dodged, allowing the sharp spines to pierce through its body.

Its eyes lit up with a shimmering gold. At the same time, straight lines began to appear across its body, moving in various directions, forming strange technological patterns that were impossible to decipher.

In the blink of an eye, the body of the three-star Sentinel began to branch apart, transforming into a bizarre circular structure with energy gathering inside it. The large ring was big enough to swallow several people at once.

That light...

Nana’s eyes widened. She recognized it immediately. It was the exact same light that had dragged them in here earlier.

She looked down at the countless Sentinels slumbering below, then back up at Mira, who was about to be consumed, and thought of Silvanus, who still hadn’t shown up.

Whatever. If he dies, that’s one less nuisance.

Either way, she absolutely could not die here.

Thinking that, Nana lifted her hand. A storm surged from her palm. It wasn’t just wind—it felt more like a hurricane of energy.

A magic circle appeared beside Nana, right in front of her hand.

Utterly different from ordinary magic circles, ancient characters related to the flow of space and time shifted across its surface.

Moments later, Nana suddenly drew her hand back, and her body was pulled into the magic circle as well, vanishing completely.

In the span of a blink, Nana’s body appeared in midair.

She let the light radiating from Mira tear into her, then, without hesitation, kicked Mira straight into the gate. She followed right after her. Everything happened incredibly fast. At the same time, the gate fully collapsed, shrinking into a round metallic orb devoid of energy. It fell to the ground like an overripe fruit at the end of its life, dropping onto the surface below.

"Urgh— cough, cough, cough..."

The moment she hit the ground, Nana felt as though her insides were overturned entirely. Combined with the pain from being struck by Mira’s unconscious attacks, she violently coughed up blood. Her eyes flew open as she forced herself to look around.

Good. This was indeed the place where they had disappeared.

Mira lay unconscious on the ground, her cloak in tatters, her thin, pale body looking hardly any better than Nana’s.

Right at that moment, Sylus and the others arrived, having rushed over after hearing the sound.

They had waited with great difficulty until the awakening sound of the Sentinels subsided, and the moment they entered the underground, they heard the noise.

Sylus was nearly delirious with joy.

He hurried over and lifted Mira off the ground, wrapping her in his cloak, muttering nonstop prayers of gratitude under his breath.

Nana stood up, wiped the blood from her lips, and said coldly, "If it weren’t for me, Mira would’ve died."

She curled her lips into a smile as she looked at Sylus. "I feel like once we return, we’ll have quite a lot to talk about."

Sylus frowned, squinting his eyes, and finally seemed to snap out of his panic. He ordered, "Alex, treat Lady Nana’s injuries."

Then, pretending to be worried, he added, "Where’s Silvanus? Why are only you and Mira here?"

He hadn’t forgotten his role as their instructor.

Nana replied indifferently, "He couldn’t get out in time. There are a lot of living Sentinels down there." She smiled at Sylus. "If not for Mira, we probably would’ve died."

Sylus tightened his brows, then said, "Considering how this place is getting increasingly dangerous, we’ll retreat for now. Once the Hunters finish their mission, if Silvanus still hasn’t returned, we’ll have no choice but to leave."

He sighed, looking thoroughly vexed.

Nana laughed coldly, said nothing, and simply shoved Alex—who had been standing beside her—aside before taking the lead back toward the surface.

Alex frowned, unsure what to do, and glanced at Sylus.

Sylus waved his hand. "Don’t mind her."

As the heir of the Aurellian family, Nana’s bloodline was pure and robust enough that her body could heal itself as quickly as possible.

Sylus looked down at Mira in his arms, his expression troubled.

It seemed Nana had witnessed things she wasn’t supposed to. That also meant the Sentinels below weren’t the lowest tier at all—they were extremely dangerous.

Which only meant Silvanus’s chances of survival were even slimmer.

Sylus quickly followed after Nana. He needed to learn more about the place she and the others had ended up in. It could be a precious piece of information capable of overturning humanity’s understanding once again.
