Becoming a God Starts with Acting-Chapter 371: Return to Lumina
"Matthew, why do you wait at the teleportation gate every single day like this? Silvanus might not even come back today." Ariana stood beside Matthew, sounding a little bored.
Because she had never received much love from her family, Ariana had always restrained herself. But after entering Lumina, she became much more confident and dared to speak her mind more freely.
Matthew looked at her and said softly, "If you’re bored, you can go inside first."
Ariana shook her head almost immediately. "No, how could I be bored? I’m waiting for Silvanus, too!"
Matthew stayed silent. Ariana couldn’t help sneaking a glance at him. She wanted to figure out how Matthew had become Silvanus’s close friend—was it simply because he stuck to Silvanus all day long?
Just as Ariana had that thought, a flash of light suddenly appeared before them—the teleportation gate was lighting up!
Ariana’s eyes widened. Could it be Silvanus?
The next moment, a figure shot out from inside. Before Matthew could even react, he was suddenly pulled into a tight embrace. Silvanus hugged him fiercely, his hand repeatedly slapping Matthew’s back with force. "I missed everyone so much! Finally, I’m home!"
Silvanus’s enthusiastic slaps left Matthew gaping, and he couldn’t help coughing twice, his eyes widening in shock as he stared at Silvanus.
By then, Silvanus had already let go of him. He frowned and slapped Matthew’s back again. "Why are you still this weak? Besides studying magic, you should train your body too."
From the side, Ariana couldn’t help saying, "You said you missed everyone, but does ’everyone’ only include Matthew? What about me?"
Hearing that, Silvanus turned to her and gave a thumbs-up. "I almost forgot you existed."
Ariana: "..." How outrageous.
Just then, Nana’s calm voice came from behind them. "We were only gone for two days. You’re being ridiculous, Silvanus."
Silvanus waved her off. "You don’t have any friends, of course, you don’t get it."
Nana immediately frowned. She walked over, shoved Silvanus hard, then turned away arrogantly. "Only weaklings need friends."
She glanced at Matthew and sneered. "Especially a weakling like him."
Matthew froze. He quickly lowered his eyes, hiding the storm surging in their depths, before looking back up at Silvanus and saying softly, "Looks like she doesn’t like me very much..."
Silvanus didn’t care much. "Just ignore her. She hates everyone."
Even though Nana had already walked some distance away, she still heard Silvanus’s words. She clenched her fists silently. She felt irritated, though she didn’t know why. It was definitely because Silvanus was insufferable! Clearly, she despised commoners.
"Silva..." Matthew brightened, about to say something, but Silvanus had already dashed off, waving his hand. "I’m going to see the headmaster for a bit. Bye."
Matthew froze, his hands twisting together. He looked timid, as if he didn’t dare speak, but in truth, his teeth were clenched tightly.
That voice echoed again in his mind: "Ha ha ha, look at you. In the end, you’re nothing more than an animal in his eyes. One day, even that stupid fox will surpass you!"
Matthew’s lips curled faintly as he replied in an icy tone, "Don’t think a few words are enough to drive a wedge between Silvanus and me."
The voice only laughed. In reality, from the very moment Matthew chose to follow it, a distance had already formed between him and Silvanus.
Matthew would never realize what kind of mire he had stepped into—nor that there would never be a way out.
Silvanus had been standing in front of the headmaster’s office for a full minute, yet no one inside responded.
He didn’t know that the headmaster himself had only just returned, carrying a small fox with silver fur—no, currently, nearly brown from mud.
The little fox was as timid around the headmaster as always, though its expression alone made its displeasure evident.
Especially when they heard Silvanus’s voice from outside. Its ears shot up instantly, its whole face lighting up with joy, but a second later they drooped again. It looked even more annoyed than before, its four little paws fidgeting restlessly as if wanting to jump down.
The headmaster spoke softly, "Come in."
At the exact moment, the door in front of Silvanus opened. Silvanus greeted the headmaster with a smile, though his gaze immediately locked onto Vivian. The moment he saw the fox’s dirty state, he couldn’t help frowning.
The headmaster’s voice followed, "It was out playing in the mud." He lowered his eyes, looking contemplative. "It seems... not very well-behaved."
Silvanus looked at Vivian’s muddy appearance and said softly, "But it never acts like this when it’s with me..."
Hearing that, the headmaster couldn’t help laughing. Silvanus quickly added, "I didn’t mean you, sir..."
The headmaster shook his head with a smile. "Perhaps I truly don’t know how to take care of children."
Silvanus shook his head thoughtfully. "That’s not it. I’m sorry."
He stepped forward, extending both hands toward Vivian with a warm smile. "Vivian, did you miss me? Come here."
Usually, whenever he did that, Vivian would immediately leap happily into his hands, its beautiful eyes wide open as it looked at him adorably.
But today, for some reason, it only glanced at Silvanus’s palms, then frowned, lifted its chin arrogantly, and turned its head away.
Vivian felt abandoned. Silvanus couldn’t just smile a little and expect it to come running back—how undignified!
Silvanus called it a few more times and even tried touching it, but the fox only wiggled its body in annoyance, looking as if everything in the world displeased it.
Silvanus couldn’t help glancing at the headmaster.
The headmaster laughed softly. "Unfortunately, I can’t speak with animals."
Silvanus fell silent, then said with a hint of dejection, "Don’t tell me Vivian stayed with you for a couple of days and already forgot about me?"
The headmaster glanced down at Vivian. The little fox, who had been squeezing its eyes shut this whole time, secretly cracked one open, its gaze darting around as it tried to peek at Silvanus.
The headmaster smiled and nodded. "It’s fine. I can keep raising it for you. As compensation, how about I give you another fox? Red fur, adorable."
Silvanus, of course, still preferred Vivian—it was, after all, the creature he had hatched himself. But given the situation, it seemed he had no choice but to leave Vivian with the headmaster for a while and hope it returned to normal.
He was about to politely decline the red fox.
But the moment Vivian saw Silvanus’s expression—the look of someone about to give up—she became instantly furious and wronged. It let out a sharp cry, then bit down on the headmaster’s hand. His hand was as hard as stone, making Vivian feel like all its teeth were about to fall out.
But the headmaster, understanding what the little fox wanted, simply released it.
Vivian immediately leapt at Silvanus, clinging onto his shoulder. Its front paws kept patting at Silvanus, looking as though it was scratching him, though it didn’t show a single claw.
Silvanus thought Vivian was giving him a massage. Overjoyed, he scooped it up and said, "Vivian! I missed you so much!"
Then he planted two quick kisses on Vivian’s mud-streaked face.
Vivian froze, then smacked its paw against Silvanus’s mouth. Silvanus only laughed. He turned to the headmaster and said, "Thank you, sir. I should go clean Vivian up."
Seeing Silvanus rush off, the headmaster simply smiled and nodded.
As Silvanus walked away, Vivian rested on his shoulder, its eyes wide as it stared back at the headmaster, blinking in confusion.
Why? That man’s skin was warm, yet biting into it felt like biting iron... A familiar taste too—just like that ugly patch of land it had been wandering through...
