Becoming a God Starts with Acting-Chapter 408: Turbulent Seas (15)
The towering gates, part of the once-majestic tower, were blasted away and sent flying. They scraped across the ground for a long distance before finally coming to a halt, kicking up a cloud of dust. The solid doorframe was now completely warped, marred by unmistakable marks as if left by a feral beast, like a piece of torn fabric.
A white figure suddenly lunged out from within the shattered doorway.
Before anyone could react, the nearest dark merfolk was ripped cleanly in half. Fresh blood and darkness mingled together, torn apart and devoured before they could even regenerate.
Powerful, razor-sharp claws, silver hair undulating in the water, and most striking of all, the ears and the large tail behind her.
The girl appeared with the posture of a savage beast.
"Thud! Thud!"
The two shredded halves of the merfolk, far larger than she was, were hurled straight to the ground. Vivian curled her blood-smeared lips into a grin and drew a breath of darkness into her lungs. "This disgusting stench is polluting everything. Let me send you where you belong."
As she spoke, the battle seemed to restart from scratch, with one side now almost completely overwhelming the other through sheer brute force.
The tail strikes of the merfolk could not shatter her bones. Their claws could not leave even the faintest scratch on her body.
Vivian spun and kicked. A single blow instantly crushed the head of the merfolk charging toward her.
At the same time, she twisted her body and opened her mouth, sharp fangs fully exposed.
That merfolk opened its mouth as well. The two bit into each other directly, fighting in the most primitive way imaginable, even more savage than the merfolk themselves.
Nana slashed aside a merfolk that had come too close, then stared toward Athena in confusion.
But Athena was still locked in fierce combat with Thalassa.
Though they had no idea who the strange girl was, one fact was undeniable. Her arrival had turned the tide of battle, easing their pressure significantly.
The clash at the bottom of the sea erupted with renewed ferocity.
Below, in the Azure Depths, the battle between Silvanus and the skeletal merfolk had yet to end.
Their head-on clash sent the skeletal merfolk flying, slamming violently into the only great tree in this place and making its branches sway fiercely. The entire space seemed nearly overturned. Only the scattered, tilting flowers and the towering tree remained, still radiating light to illuminate this desolate land.
The skeletal merfolk’s tail writhed. One of its arms had been completely reduced to dust. Half of the rib bones in its chest and tail were gone, its skull was now riddled with cracks, and even its spine was no exception.
Silvanus was also blasted away by the aftershock of the collision. His right arm hung limp, his cloak torn to shreds, not a single piece left intact. He could no longer raise that arm.
His face was smeared with fresh blood, yet his eyes were still wide open. He paid no heed to the blood flowing over them. Those golden pupils continued to shine as he stared unblinkingly at the skeletal merfolk below.
Only now did the skeletal merfolk belatedly feel a trace of fear.
It craned its neck like a massive serpent and let out a piercing hiss. Its tail continued to twitch and coil restlessly. However, it did not rush to attack. Instead, it fixed its gaze on Silvanus, as if trying to confirm whether he had already reached the moment of collapse.
Like instinct etched deep into the race’s memory, it knew that humans always had a limit. Now, it was waiting for the human before it to fall.
But at that moment, Silvanus laughed.
He tilted his head slightly and spoke softly. "Why not keep attacking? Are you afraid? I think I can see it now. You’re scared. Hahaha."
The skeletal merfolk hissed in furious displeasure. Yet at this moment, Silvanus raised his left hand. It was still covered in wounds, but it could move.
The merfolk’s shrieking grew even more intense, and fierce currents swept up along the seabed once more.
Silvanus sneered. "Want to see who runs out of flux first? You’re doing great. Too bad I’m not an ordinary human."
He, he was Silvanus, the one destined to become great.
As he spoke, countless bubbles of light appeared. They bloomed one after another, reflecting shimmering radiance from every direction. All the colors of the sun flickered and intertwined, like rainbows merging together, releasing a dazzling golden glow from within.
Some were large, some small. Some were no more than tiny, brilliant points of light, floating quietly in the air. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
They were not high above, but drifted everywhere, near the ground or coiling around the skeletal merfolk, forming a beautiful scene that seemed to adorn this dreamlike garden. The skeletal merfolk struggled to flee, yet it could not escape the beautiful clusters of light that enveloped it.
Silvanus curled his lips into a smirk. His fingertips bent slightly as he raised his right arm. With his movement, it rapidly regenerated and healed. He gently brought his hands together, parted his lips, and said softly, "Boom."
"Boom! Boom! Boom—!"
Explosions of light erupted in rapid succession, completely engulfing the space below. From Silvanus’s vantage point, all he could see was a sea of light rising from beneath him, burying every other silhouette, including the writhing, shattering form of the skeletal merfolk.
Tiny points of light, like a swarm of fireflies, burst upward from below and swept past Silvanus, leaving specks of reflected glow across his blood-smeared face and within his golden eyes.
The light quickly faded, leaving behind a thin veil like an immense sheet of shimmer weave, draping over the land. Silvanus lowered his gaze, and in the next instant, his body collapsed straight down.
"Thud!"
The sound alone was enough to make anyone flinch. Silvanus himself felt as though every bone in his body had been crushed.
The luminous sheet was disrupted by his fall, dispersing like smoke. The "fireflies" began to rise once more, increasing in number. Everything before Silvanus’s eyes shimmered with an eerily bright radiance. The ground beneath him even seemed soft, as though the life-and-death battle just moments ago had never existed at all.
He instinctively closed his eyes. The entire space fell into silence, as if something were whispering in smug satisfaction.
At that moment, Silvanus suddenly snapped his eyes open. He blinked and sprang upright, flinging away the skeletal arms wrapped around his body.
Those hands, realizing their failure, swayed in clear dissatisfaction.
The remaining hands still clinging to Silvanus’s legs continued to tug with all their strength, as if pulling just a little harder would truly drag him down into the earth with them.
Silvanus frowned and kicked them away. Clearly, he was in the Azure Depths, the burial ground of merfolk, yet every sensation of this place made him feel as though he were standing in the lair of an undead mage.
If Silvanus had seen Thalassa above, already corrupted by darkness, he would not have thought his suspicions unreasonable.
But for now, he only staggered to his feet and slowly walked toward the grave beneath the roots of the lone tree in this illusory cemetery.
