Chapter 426: Vivian and her dream

The paper crane kept circling freely in the air. Then, all of a sudden, it was struck by a snow-white claw, instantly dispersing into countless points of light that gathered together and flickered faintly.

"Vivian is an idiot..."

Vivian slowly read out each word. Right after that, she became so furious she could not take it anymore and immediately pounced toward Silvanus, clinging to his shoulder. Her mouth opened wide as she continuously chomped down on his head.

Silvanus could not help lowering his head and laughing. "Alright already, your mouth is full of drool. Get down, hurry!"

Vivian gnawed at Silvanus’s head a few more times before letting out a cold snort, turning around and swishing her tail away, clearly putting on an attitude of ignoring him.

Silvanus looked at the large tail swaying back and forth in front of his eyes and could not help feeling a bit itchy in his hands. He directly scooped Vivian up, buried his face briefly into her tail, and muttered, "So cute."

Vivian lifted her chin and declared loudly, "Humans are just a bunch of weak, hairless creatures." And they are especially weak against furry beings, like she herself, for example.

Suddenly, her forehead was flicked.

Vivian’s eyes widened at once as she shot Silvanus a look full of disgust. Silvanus could not help kissing her forehead several times, laughing happily.

"Boom! Rumble!"

"Crash! Bang!"

At that moment, a burst of earth-shaking noise suddenly rang out. Silvanus even felt as though the ground beneath his feet trembled slightly. He quickly looked out the window.

In the distance, pillars of lightning flashed and vanished in an instant, twisting dangerously.

The sky, which had been clear with bright moonlight, was now shrouded in rolling black clouds. And the center of those dark clouds was none other than the distant land, in the same direction as the Hazard Zone.

That very same night, wails of despair echoed across the sky. No one knew exactly why, only that shadow creatures suddenly began to emerge endlessly from the ground. In the blink of an eye, they launched attacks on villages near the Hazard Zone, relentlessly gnawing away at the barriers. As a result, the leader of this large-scale offensive, the principal of Lumina Academy, Vermillion himself, could only make a swift decision to dispatch a mage unit to the area to quell the chaos.

The departure time became more urgent than ever.

By the time Silvanus received the summons, two days had already passed.

All outstanding students of the Academy received the order. This was a matter concerning the survival of the entire Land of Light, so they had no right to refuse. They had become mages in order to enjoy the benefits granted by society, and therefore, when danger arose, they should stand at the forefront of the battlefield.

Silvanus regrouped with Matthew and Ariana.

Ariana’s condition seemed much more stable than before. However, she was now noticeably quieter and more withdrawn, sticking closely to Matthew’s side, looking extremely dependent.

Matthew did not resent Ariana. In front of Silvanus, he always showed concern for her, even though he remained as taciturn as ever.

Just then, Nana suddenly passed by and sneered. "Haha, looks like someone’s been pushed aside."

Silvanus could not help turning to glance at her.

Nana looked the same as always, her brown hair neatly tied into a ponytail, revealing a compact face with sharp, resolute features. Seeing Silvanus look back, Nana paused for a moment, then sneered again. "Two people showing up together. My condolences."

It was obvious Nana was picking a fight. Silvanus curled his lips. "If you’re offering condolences, you could at least show it through concrete actions."

Hearing this, Nana sneered. "What, do you want to be my lover? You’re just an ordinary commoner. You shouldn’t make your desires so obvious."

Silvanus frowned, wondering why Nana was no longer as explosively angry as before.

He asked directly, "Since when did you change your temperament?"

Nana glared at Silvanus and snapped, "Idiot." Then she walked into the formation.

Silvanus: "..."

Alright, he was already far too used to this. It was not a big deal.

Matthew, standing to the side, muttered, "She’s really annoying, Silvanus."

Silvanus waved his hand. "She’s a noble. Our wills differ, but in essence our ultimate goal is the same. She also wants to protect the world."

Matthew quietly looked at Silvanus, unable to understand why Silvanus could always see the good in others. Everyone was clearly twisted like demons, full of flaws, yet Silvanus only paid attention to those vague, beautiful things.

At this moment, a voice suddenly echoed from above. It was low and not piercing, sounding gentle, yet it clearly reached the ears of everyone present.

"Lichina, the calamity of the Land of Light. As the guardians of this land, we must eradicate the darkness and drive it back to the hell where it belongs. The pursuit of Lichina has begun. You, students of Lumina, swear to devote all your strength, never stopping even in the face of hardship. Your sacrifices will be remembered by the world!" the principal declared.

Vivian could not help quietly snickering beside Silvanus, and Silvanus himself could not help feeling that the principal was not particularly good at stirring up morale. He had already started talking about sacrifice without even mentioning victory.

But perhaps the principal was simply administering a preventive dose to these young students with blazing fire in their hearts. That Lichina was terrifying. That the road ahead would be arduous, and they could fall at any moment.

So they must not underestimate their enemy.

Silvanus gently rubbed Vivian’s head. He had wanted to leave Vivian at home, but Vivian cried and made a huge fuss, insisting on going with him. Otherwise, she would directly tear the entire Academy apart.

Silvanus did not want to challenge Vivian’s ability to do exactly what she said, so in the end, he could only take her along.

The team of more than two hundred Lumina students quickly entered the teleportation gate. At the edge of the Hazard Zone, hunter squads had already surrounded the area, poised to strike.

Vermillion raised his sword. Unlike his youth, he was now advanced in age, with a long beard and silver hair. Yet one thing remained the same. He was still the one commanding the assault on Lichina.

The two of them, mortal enemies in their youth. Who would have thought that even in old age, they would still have to face each other.

Lichina, why could you not just stay quietly beneath the ground...

"Boom!"

At that very moment, a powerful tremor suddenly resounded, causing the entire ground to quake.

The mages quickly steadied themselves, staring in shock toward the interior of the barrier.

They saw darkness descend like a gigantic sphere from the sky. In an instant, it corroded the vegetation below, baring its fangs and claws as if issuing a challenge.

Lichina did not even try to flee. It was as if she had been waiting for them to arrive.

"Such arrogance!"

The crowd erupted into noisy discussion.

At that moment, Silvanus suddenly saw a streak of light flying toward him without any obstruction.

Seeing the shape of a leaf, Silvanus paused slightly before reaching out to catch it. The translucent green leaf drifted to his ear and then dissipated, and Dorian’s voice rang out, "Silvanus, you must be taking part in the campaign against Lichina as well. I’ll be fighting from long range. Stay safe."

Silvanus noticed that there were many Elves within the formation, yet there was no sign of Dorian.

He did not know what fighting from long range would be like, and at the moment he could no longer reply to Dorian. He could only murmur softly, "I’ll be fine."

Vivian, at his side, bobbed her head and said with a silly grin, "Vivian will be fine too, fairy."

"Fairy? Don’t call him that," Silvanus said, unable to help explaining seriously.

Vivian snorted coldly. "Why not? In the future I’ll marry Dorian and make him my wife!"

Vivian was certain she would have a charming, muscular tiger Beastfolk by her side, while Dorian would only need to be beautiful. One husband and one wife. This was clearly the most wonderful arrangement Vivian could imagine. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, she would sleep with the Beastfolk in female form. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, she would carry her weapon to serve Dorian. On Sundays, they could rest, or simply let all three of them play together.

Silvanus: "... Dorian is not going to be your wife. And stop reading those weird books."

Silvanus felt that after this battle, he really needed to give Vivian some serious sex education. But if he knew what was currently going on in Vivian’s head, he would definitely disown her on the spot.

Just then, another teasing voice sounded. "That’s right, nobody likes you anyway, silly fox. Wipe your drool."

It was Nerio. Vivian widened her eyes and looked around fearfully. After not seeing Nerio appear, she put on a threatening act and hissed toward Silvanus’s earring.

Silvanus: "..."

"Silvanus, were you talking to Vivian?"

At this moment, Matthew’s voice suddenly rang out.

Vivian immediately hissed toward Matthew. Silvanus quickly grabbed her beak. He looked at Matthew and said softly, "Be careful. If there’s danger, just run."

Matthew could not help smiling when he heard that. "I’m already quite strong, Silvanus. Who knows, maybe I’ll even get the chance to protect you."

Silvanus smiled faintly. "I’m really looking forward to that moment."

But even as he said this, Nick’s words surfaced in Silvanus’s mind.

Silvanus suddenly looked at Matthew and asked, "Matthew, you’re not hiding anything from me, are you?"

Matthew blinked at Silvanus, his eyes clear to the bottom. "Of course not. Why would you ask that?"

Silvanus shook his head and smiled. "Maybe it’s just because we’re about to face life and death, so I suddenly feel a bit sentimental." Besides, even if Matthew truly were hiding something, how could he say it out loud. Everyone had their secrets. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Matthew smiled as well. No one knew that the hand he held behind his back was clenched so tightly that his joints creaked.
