Chapter 427: Lichina

"Is there really no way to eat Nick?!"

Matthew roared inwardly. Nick ought to become an extra energy-boosting meal for him after daring to make everything turn so awful.

The Outer God said coldly, "We can’t touch Nick."

It was just a single sentence, yet Matthew was truly unwilling to accept it.

Even so, the battle had already begun. The group vanished one after another and arrived at their previously assigned positions. Each unit had its own commander, forming an encirclement.

Silvanus was directly assigned to follow the team led by Vermillion.

A flash of light passed, and everything before them changed in the blink of an eye. The once-lush treetops were now nothing but empty frames. All kinds of plants seemed to come alive in the worst possible way, beginning to bare their fangs and brandish their claws.

"Grawww!"

Immediately after, a roar echoed from the distance. On the ground, a gigantic black pit had appeared following the descent of the dark sphere earlier. Countless shadow creatures emerged from within, surging outward, ready to form a massive legion of darkness.

Their appearances were wildly varied, led by towering beings dozens of meters tall, with enormous goat horns and massive bodies covered in sharp spikes.

Seeing this scene, Vermillion raised his sword. "For the glory of the light!" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Kill!!!"

Ferocious roars erupted as the group collided with the shadow creatures.

Yet the battle felt as though it had not truly begun, as Lichina had not even appeared yet.

Silvanus held a sword of light in his hand. With a single slash, five shadow creatures before him were reduced to dust. Every movement carried a force. Wherever he passed, no darkness could exist.

However, his gaze lifted toward the sky, where Vermillion’s cloak was still billowing.

That gigantic creature let out a thunderous roar and charged at Vermillion with its massive hammer. It had clearly identified Vermillion as its target and would naturally not allow him to advance even a single step further.

But that was not something it got to decide.

Vermillion’s sword suddenly flashed in his hand. In the blink of an eye, it became enormous, the blade extending more than ten meters long.

The light behind him surged like a storm, slicing through the air, almost tearing visible rifts into space itself.

A piercing sound rang out, sharp yet fleeting. The sword’s radiance flared and then went dark. In that instant, the gigantic creature’s body was cleaved in two, crashing heavily to the ground. From the cut, blazing light poured out, corroding everything in its path.

Vermillion was like a warrior from another age, passing judgment on anyone who dared block his way.

Below, the battlefield was utter chaos. Shouts rang out from both sides, whether cries of fury or sounds made simply to bolster their own morale.

Countless shadow creatures fell, and not a few mages were sacrificed as well. Fresh blood and darkness mingled together, soaking into the ground.

Silvanus no longer knew how much time had passed, nor how far he had advanced. Perhaps it had been a long while, or perhaps only a few minutes since the battle began.

High above, Vermillion raised his sword. From its tip, light energy began to gather. Particles of radiance clustered together, spiraling like a colossal vortex trapped within a sphere, ready to explode at any moment.

At the same time, on the ground around the black pit, layers of different magic circles appeared, surrounding it. Strange runes writhed and twisted, as if they possessed lives of their own.

It was Nicole.

"Seal it!"

Vermillion roared. Immediately after, his sword slashed downward, cutting straight across the black pit. The massive sphere of light almost instantly filled everything.

The shadow creatures that had not yet escaped let out shrill, ear-splitting screams, shaking the land violently.

Yet no matter how hard they struggled, escape was impossible. In an instant, all of them were burned to ashes by the light.

At the same time, from the magic circles encircling the mouth of the pit, bizarre energy pillars suddenly surged upward, piercing straight into the sky, as if tearing open the blue heavens and dispersing the dark clouds that shrouded them.

Beams of light gathered like lightning, seemingly amplifying the power of Vermillion’s strike.

"Boom!"

A thunderous explosion echoed out. Light erupted from the mouth of the dark pit, forming a colossal pillar of radiance. Rings of energy spread outward in waves, nearly enveloping every step of the remaining shadow creatures.

The light was so dazzling that one had to squint, and the shadow creatures were left with almost no chance of survival.

"Boom!"

The radiance burst outward, leaving behind only violent gusts of wind. A gigantic hole appeared in the sky, truly revealing the vast blue heavens beyond.

Nicole swayed slightly. Caesar rushed over at once, using his back to support her small body.

The people locked in fierce battle seemed to come back to their senses as well.

But... was it really over?

Just as they thought that, the dark clouds around them suddenly churned and surged. The patch of blue sky from moments ago was once again swallowed by black clouds, leaving only a faint glow within, like light seen through a skylight.

The dark clouds gathered into a tubular shape, revealing a vast hollow suffused with a trace of light, as if clearing the way for the true king to return.

Everyone seemed to sense something at the same time. Tense and wary, they all looked up at the sky.

"Caw caw caw!"

The shrill cries of crows tore through the air. A flock of crows scattered from within the hollow. Though light was clearly visible, it still made one feel an oppressive darkness that could not be dispelled. Immediately after, a black scythe suddenly appeared in midair. Its joints were adorned with green roses bristling with sharp thorns, from which dark blood dripped. Deep azure light coiled around it, a color that should signify life, yet now felt like an unfathomable poison.

Then the darkness billowed and condensed, and a figure emerged, languidly reclining atop the massive scythe.

She possessed a figure so perfect it felt unreal. Her pale body, her chest rising and falling, lay at an angle that made the curves of her form all the more striking. Streams of deep blue energy flowed and twisted along her body, growing and spreading, casually concealing what needed to be concealed. A soft, tinkling laugh drifted through the wind, carrying a teasing yet strangely alluring quality. Her jet-black hair fell straight and free, swaying with the breeze. Her face was small and exquisitely delicate, almost inhuman. Her eyes were entirely black, with neither iris nor sclera. She tilted her head slightly. Silvanus was certain she was looking at him, her lips curving into a knowing smile.

Silvanus’s heart pounded loudly. The surge of unease and danger made him want to deal with Lichina immediately.

But Vivian, hovering beside him, cried out excitedly, "That’s the female version of Dorian. I... I’ll bring her corpse back!"

Gasps sounded all around. The crowd seemed stunned, then incredulous, their eyes filled with a strange, mesmerized fascination.

Silvanus restrained Vivian’s body as it kept drifting forward and said coldly, "Calm down!"

At this moment, Lichina had already stood up. The gigantic scythe in her hand now looked almost like a toy.

She laughed loudly. "It’s been so long since I’ve seen the foolish, stunned looks on your faces. I’m truly delighted."

At the same time, the sounds of cracking bones rang out. In shock, everyone watched as their fallen companions began to move stiffly, like puppets pulled by invisible strings.

Cracks started to spread across the ground. Decayed skeletal hands, or bones newly stripped of flesh, slowly crawled out.

Without any warning, those who had been comrades just moments ago, who had sacrificed themselves for the glory of the Land of Light, now rose again in the ugliest forms imaginable and charged at their former allies.

Clearly, some could not adapt in time. Some simply could not bring themselves to strike at their friends. Others no longer had the stamina to fight these undead beings.

One had to understand that beings from the Land of Darkness were not merely shadow creatures.

Shadow creatures were constructs formed from the power of darkness. They had no intelligence and only obeyed the commands of their summoners, slaughtering madly. Against them, light magic alone was enough to reduce them to dust.

But Lichina was different. She was an Undead, belonging to a race that originated from the Land of Light. Like them, she could stand beneath the sun, she simply preferred the darkness.

And now, these skeletons, granted power by Lichina, had become semi-Undead. They possessed mindless bodies yet wielded immortal strength, making them extremely difficult to kill with a single blow.

They needed to shatter them to pieces in an instant, ensuring they could not rise again. Only then would they truly succeed.
