Chapter 429: An Unresolvable Threat

"As usual, a decisive strike." Lichina laughed, her voice growing hoarser by the moment.

Vermillion did not even pause. The energy spheres continued to move without stopping before finally crashing down. They were not entirely focused on Vermillion alone, but were also prepared to scour the ground in a sweeping assault!

Vermillion seemed to melt into the sea of dazzling light, shooting toward Lichina like an enormous, powerful arrow!

"Stab! Crack!"

At first, there were only a few faint sounds.

Everything seemed to slow to a crawl. The darkness was pierced by a massive hole, wrapped in flickering light. The figures of Vermillion and Lichina vanished completely.

Immediately after, the light suddenly spread with overwhelming force. In almost a single second, it seized control of the sky from the darkness, causing everything to collapse and fall like a rain of luminous dust!

At the same time, the remaining dark spheres were jointly destroyed by the Elders and high-ranking mages.

Standing beneath the rain of light dust, one could see the dry skeletons swaying like puppets with their strings cut, before their joints burst apart and fell to the ground like trash. They were no longer the fearsome half-Undead that inspired terror.

So, was it over?

That was the first thought to appear in the minds of those present.

The next moment, a figure suddenly fell from the sky. Nicole rushed forward, using magic to catch Vermillion’s withered body, now little more than skin wrapped around bone.

He had his eyes closed as if dead, his body decayed beyond recognition.

Nicole’s pupils shrank. Light almost instantly enveloped Vermillion’s body. She directly threw him onto Caesar’s back. However, Nicole did not ignore the gazes that had been cast in this direction just moments before.

But at this moment, more people were ready to celebrate the victory.

Yet as the rain of light dispersed, a dark point appeared once more in the sky. It was a pitch-black sphere of darkness, extremely small, spinning endlessly.

"What is that?!"

Someone seemed to shout. Before the crowd could even erupt into confusion or doubt, the tiny dark sphere shot straight down toward the ground. No sound echoed out. In its wake trailed a brilliant vertical streak of dark purple-black light.

Before the crowd could even voice their doubts, a heaven-shaking, earth-rending tremor erupted. A ten-meter radius was swept clean by the surging energy. At the very center of it, a sphere of darkness pulsed relentlessly, already primed for a violent energy detonation!

Nicole shouted, "Lichina, that madwoman wants to self-destruct, using her power to destroy the entire Hazard Zone!"

Hearing this, the crowd was struck with terror. Lichina was an ancient Undead mage, so powerful that even when all races joined forces, they could only seal her. Now that she was releasing her soul with unimaginable power, she would die, but no one here would be able to escape!

"Run!"

Nicole roared, taking the lead as everyone fled toward the outskirts of the Hazard Zone.

Silvanus was no exception. At that moment, a figure ahead suddenly stumbled. Silvanus almost without hesitation grabbed the person’s arm and flung them directly onto his back. Along the way, anyone he encountered, he scooped up.

But just then, a cheerful voice suddenly rang out from above. "Silvanus!"

Silvanus could not help pausing for a moment. "Nick?"

"That’s right, it’s me! Please don’t throw me down, I want to live, gods above, with you here I’m definitely surviving, this is amazing luck. I really thought I was dead for sure, that was terrifying. Lichina really is a monster, and I have no idea how Vermillion is doing right now. She even managed to—"

Suddenly, Nick’s face was lightly slapped. It was Vivian.

She felt this human talked far too much, the buzzing was making her head hurt. Sure enough, only Dorian was the best.

With tears welling in his eyes, Nick covered his cheek and then looked at Vivian, who was draped across Silvanus’s neck. Her soft fur was now smeared with fresh blood and mud, and there were still unhealed wounds on her body.

Nick immediately spoke in great distress. "Oh my god, divine beast! You must have fought with incredible valor. It’s truly unbelievable that I can see you in such a dusty state. This really is a blessing—"

As Nick continued, Vivian lifted her chin higher, her eyes narrowing with satisfaction, feeling that the wounds on her body did not hurt quite as much anymore.

Silvanus was honestly at a loss for words with them. It was as if what lay before them was not a blood-soaked battlefield and a life-or-death crisis at all.

Right now, after such a massive battle, nearly all of them had little flux left to spare. Fortunately, at the very least, they were still able to fly.

However, that hope quickly fell into despair when a barrier appeared in the sky, cutting off any chance for them to escape.

One by one, people fell from midair after trying to crash through the barrier, only to fail.

They hurriedly activated teleportation scrolls, but it was meaningless. There was no opportunity left for them, while the energy sphere on the other side was already ready to detonate at any moment.

Silvanus could not help but stop. Nick immediately wrapped his arms around Silvanus’s neck, wailing nonstop. "Silvanus, goodbye. I won’t get to see you shine anymore!"

Silvanus replied, "...If you die here, then I’m dying too." There was no such thing as who shone and who did not.

Nick cried as he shook his head. At this moment, the others had also discovered the cause. Sylus stood before a massive gate ahead, formed from countless different runes, its surface like a vast stone plane covered in strange symbols and arcane inscriptions.

He kept attacking it, but it was useless.

To the side, Mira clenched her staff, frowning deeply, her eyes heavy with sorrow. The others were equally despairing. No matter how many times they tried, it all seemed futile.

Some people collapsed onto the ground. Others silently wiped away their tears.

Mira looked at the anguished faces around her, her heart nearly tightening into a knot as she murmured, "Is there really no other way?"

Were they going to be buried here together?

The Elves seemed to be the quickest to accept this. They looked up at the sky and whispered softly, "At least we eliminated one great threat."

But many more were unwilling to accept it. Life was clearly right in front of them. Who could accept being buried here like this, especially when they still had the strength to struggle?

"Silvanus!"

At that moment, someone suddenly called out his name. He turned around and saw Matthew slowly walking toward them. Blood was still dripping from the hem of Matthew’s cloak, yet his eyes remained clear as he looked at Silvanus, worry evident in his gaze.

Nana followed behind Matthew, though it was unclear why she had suddenly come here.

As soon as Matthew drew near, he frowned at Nick and said slowly, "Is he lame now?"

Hearing this, Nick immediately jumped down from Silvanus’s back. However, he still hid behind Silvanus, quietly wiping away his tears, not daring to look at Matthew.

Only then did Matthew turn his gaze to Silvanus and suddenly say, "We’re trapped here. Do you have any ideas, Silvanus?"

Nana also looked toward him. Silvanus could not help falling silent. Why did they think he could handle a problem that even the strongest people here could not resolve?

Of course, there was one possibility—the power of Kirin. But Silvanus knew that Kirin could not teleport so many people. Many would still die. Very many.

However, he did not even have the right to choose, because Silvanus realized that ever since he entered the Hazard Zone, he had been unable to contact Nerio, let alone summon Kirin.

Silvanus shook his head. "I don’t know either, Matthew."

After saying that, he stepped forward, wanting to observe the object more closely.

But the closer he got, the stronger that familiar feeling surged within Silvanus. That stone slab... was exactly the same as the one at the exit gateway that had led them out of Lichina’s secret chamber earlier. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Lichina’s power was still churning violently without detonating, as if it were deliberately urging something to happen.

Matthew and Nick had clearly noticed this as well. Nick said nothing, while Matthew’s gaze locked tightly onto Silvanus.

On the other side, Nicole was still moving back and forth, studying the characters carved into the stone slab, but it was useless. Even if she drew upon all the knowledge of her lifetime, the barrier enclosing them showed no sign of disappearing.

Nicole shrugged and said flatly, "Let’s just consider ourselves sacrificed for glory."

She had completely given up.

Seeing Nicole’s attitude, Nana knew for certain that things were going nowhere.

Some people shouted that Nicole was foolish and faithless, but Nana knew that Nicole was simply the one who accepted reality faster than anyone else.

Were they... really going to die here?

Nana looked toward Silvanus, pressing her lips together, feeling nothing but deep unwillingness.
