Silvanus slammed heavily into the ground, his body dragging for a distance before finally coming to a stop. He spat out a mouthful of fresh blood and lifted his head in disbelief, only to see Matthew slowly walking toward him, his face utterly expressionless. Matthew's clear eyes reflected Silvanus's inverted image, wretched to the extreme.

Silvanus knew that people hated the Undead, hated anything that came from the Land of the Darkness, but Matthew…

He had imagined an attack coming from anyone at all. It just should never have been Matthew.

"Don't look at me with that kind of gaze. It really excites me, Silvanus, ha ha ha." Matthew chuckled softly, his eyes narrowing slightly.

Silvanus tried to stand up, but Matthew had already stepped forward and kicked him again, sending Silvanus flying several more meters away. He did not even stop there. He leapt up, caught Silvanus midair, and then sat down on the ground.

Silvanus spat out another mouthful of fresh blood. His entire body was covered in blood and dust, staining Matthew's cloak crimson, yet Matthew did not seem to care in the slightest.

He wrapped his arms around Silvanus, letting him lean against his chest, and said cheerfully, "That little bit of dark energy you have is really insignificant, Silvanus. What are you going to do now? You've been rejected, you'll be hated, you'll be hunted down, and you don't even have the ability to protect yourself."

The more Matthew spoke, the more agitated he became, his eyes turning a vivid red. "Beg me, Silvanus. Just beg me, and I'll protect you, all right? Let's go together. You only need to cling to me and live on."

"Hero… ha ha ha."

Silvanus listened to Matthew's laughter echoing beside his ear. His hand was still tightly gripping the sleeve at Matthew's elbow, yet his whole body had already lost all strength.

This was even more terrifying than suddenly becoming Lichina's successor.

"I… I really did treat you as a friend… Matthew…" Silvanus stared fixedly at him, his voice barely intelligible.

Matthew wiped the blood from the corner of Silvanus's lips. "But that heroic ideal of yours disgusts me, Silvanus. The way you're always shining makes my heart boil with jealousy. Do you know that?"

Silvanus stared blankly at Matthew. Clearly, Matthew's smile had not changed in the slightest. Those clear eyes were still filled with light, transparent like the surface of a lake, from childhood until now always turned toward Silvanus. They had walked through the mire together, believing that light lay ahead, believing that they would become better…

Silvanus had always consciously taken on the responsibility of protecting him, leading him forward step by step. Even a dog raised for a long time would develop feelings, yet Matthew seemed to have none of that at all.

"Ha ha ha, ha ha ha. Ha ha ha ha!"

Silvanus laughed as if driven mad, his expression twisting as a tear slipped down from the corner of his eye.

Matthew panicked slightly and held Silvanus even tighter. "You only need to beg me and I'll go with you, Silvanus, just like how I once begged you…"

Before Matthew could finish speaking, a surge of dark flames erupted violently, engulfing both of them.

Matthew was blasted backward by the sudden shockwave.

Silvanus let out a miserable scream. Flames burst forth from his chest, and in the blink of an eye his entire body turned to dust, leaving behind only a stark white skeleton. Within its ribcage, a soul flickered with a dim bluish-white flame.

Under the horrified gazes of everyone present, the skeleton slowly stood up.

Silvanus stared blankly at his hands, then instinctively raised one to touch his own head.

It felt as if something had shattered, as though a seal had been lifted. Information flooded into his mind all at once, leaving him unable to think clearly, waves of chaotic pain crashing through him.

He could only hurriedly raise his hand. Vivian, who lay unconscious to the side, vanished instantly.

Then Silvanus fled at the fastest speed he could manage.

"Stop!" Matthew roared from behind, lunging straight forward.

Without the slightest hesitation, Silvanus turned back. He lifted his hand, and a gigantic scythe appeared in his grasp, its blade cleaving straight toward Matthew.

Matthew hastily formed a shield, utterly meaningless. The scythe pierced straight through it, poised to split him in two.

Matthew clearly had not expected Silvanus to be so utterly ruthless. At the very instant the scythe was about to strike him, another shield appeared tightly around his body. Though it was still cut in two by the scythe, the shockwave sent Matthew flying more than ten meters away, crashing straight into the crowd that was rushing forward.

Matthew spat out fresh blood, and the crowd immediately erupted into shouts. "Look, he really is an Undead mage!"

That skeletal body, that scythe. Only an Undead mage could possess such things!

Perhaps Silvanus had been hiding his identity among them all along!

"Capture him!"

But at that moment, Silvanus abruptly turned around. His once snow-white cloak had already turned pitch-black. A violent shockwave spread outward along with the scythe. Immediately after, a jet-black crescent moon shot straight into the distance, colliding with the crowd. Countless sharp spikes burst up from the ground, stretching upward and piercing the sky, forcing everyone to retreat.

Seizing this chance, Silvanus accelerated even further. Even though he did not know where he should go now, he had to escape before everything became too late!

Far away, Dorian watched the surging darkness rising in the distance and could not help but frown.

The Elves beside him were equally horrified. "This darkness is far stronger than before. Could it be that Lichina was not destroyed at all, but instead has grown even stronger? Then what about the others…"

Hearing the voices beside him, Dorian kept his gaze fixed on the distant darkness. Seeing that he had yet to draw his bow, the Elves urged him anxiously. "Your Highness, please deliver the decisive strike. Only then will the others have a chance of victory. For the glory of the Land of Light!"

Dorian paused slightly. That was right. For the glory of the Land of Light. Silvanus was also fighting far away, even facing countless dangers. What was there for him to hesitate about?

Dorian did not know why his intuition kept screaming in alarm, but at this moment, he had made his decision!

"Boom, boom, boom!"

Resounding explosions rang out. In an instant, countless circles of light suddenly appeared in midair.

The bowstring was drawn taut with a stretching cry. A fierce gale rose abruptly, sending Dorian's ornate robes billowing as the light in his eyes wavered indistinctly.

"Thrum! Whoosh!"

Only a violent sound could be heard as the arrow of light sliced through the wind at an unimaginable speed!

It shattered one magic circle after another. With each one it broke, the energy gathered there grew greater and greater. Light converged around the arrow until it almost became tangible, dancing like a living flame.

Silvanus seemed to sense something. The clouds and sky were torn apart, and the instant he turned his head, the arrow had already arrived. Absolute precision. Absolute speed. Leaving the target no chance to escape.

"Boom! Rumble!"

A wave of light burst forth, its rays like crystal, reflecting countless colors. The bluish-white flame within Silvanus's chest took the full force of the impact, shattering and scattering apart.

Silvanus had only just awakened and did not yet know how to conceal his own soul. Now it was smashed into fragments.

He was weakened almost to the extreme, able only to hurriedly transform into a wisp of smoke, struggling to flee into the darkness.

But how could the pursuers behind him possibly give him this chance?

At that very moment, however, a beam of light suddenly descended. Another explosion erupted, forcing them to slow their pursuit.

Nana held two swords of light in her hands and declared righteously, "A dark creature has appeared here. The members of the Aurellan family have a duty to eradicate it!"

With that, she launched another attack, so powerful that the others could not intervene. Nana herself vanished into the light.

Yet unlike what the onlookers imagined, she did not rush to pursue or hunt him down. Instead, she remained motionless, her gaze heavy. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

It would be best if you escaped. Escape as fast as you can, Silvanus.

Thinking this, she deliberately slashed herself several times with her sword, creating chaotic sounds, and then quickly rushed forward.
