Nick stared blankly at the scene before him, but before he could say anything, Silvanus's bony body had already collapsed.

The two faced each other. Reflected in Nick's clear eyes were Silvanus's dark, hollow eye sockets, a terrifying skull, yet he seemed not the least bit afraid.

Silvanus let out a soft chuckle. "I can't walk anymore now, so for the time being, be my legs, Nick. Don't just be recorded in history. Please, stand by my side."

"Stand by Vivian's side!" Vivian shouted as well, leaping out of Silvanus's chest. Her bright, sparkling eyes fixed on Nick.

Nick parted his lips, staring at Silvanus in a daze. This was the first time in his life that someone had needed him, had asked him to stay by their side. He then looked into Vivian's eyes. For the first time, someone was looking at him with such unabashed fondness and expectation, even though Vivian was only a fox… wait, why could Vivian talk?

Nick's thoughts jumped again. He hurriedly shook his head hard, then directly scooped up Silvanus and charged straight toward the fog.

"If you go in there, you may never be able to get out again," Silvanus said. His voice grew lower and slower, as if he was about to lose the ability to speak.

Nick laughed. "You're the one who wanted me to go with you. Now you're trying to scare me?"

"I just want to say that if you regret it, you can still leave while there's time," Silvanus murmured.

Nick laughed again, his catlike eyes narrowing with mischief. "I should be the one saying that. I'm very troublesome, so I only hope you won't regret it later. But it's already too late. Even if you do regret it, you won't be able to throw me off!"

With that, he hoisted Silvanus onto his back and, without a shred of hesitation, plunged into the fog.

The people chasing them had not stopped, but as long as they went deep enough, as long as they passed through the fog and entered Chaosland, no one would dare pursue them any further. That place was known as a land with no escape. Once you entered, no one had ever come out.

Yet instead of fear, Nick felt only excitement.

No matter what, as long as Silvanus was here, he firmly believed they could find a way out. Their journey might even turn into a wondrous adventure.

The sounds of pursuit grew more and more distant, while the fog grew thicker and thicker, until Nick could barely see anything around him except the fog itself. The air became dense and heavy, making it hard to breathe and leaving a tight pressure in the chest.

According to the records in the books, running around blindly in the fog could get them killed before they ever truly entered Chaosland. Legend said that countless Sentinels left behind by the Hobbit lay hidden within the fog, meant to stop foolish people who dared step toward Chaosland with the intent of crossing to the continent beyond.

But Nick kept running and running. The path ahead was completely unobstructed, until the light in front of him suddenly flared, causing the fog before his eyes to reflect a dazzling, glittering radiance.

"We're here!" Nick shouted, then plunged forward without the slightest hesitation, as if what lay ahead was not a road of no return but a treasure waiting to be discovered.

There came the fierce rush of wind, and then Nick's feet hit the ground with a sound like accidentally stepping on glass, so crisp that cracks could almost be heard.

Nick's eyes flew open. By instinct, he looked down, then could not help but stare even wider.

The ground beneath his feet was not ordinary ground at all. It was like a layer of transparent glass, and beneath that glass lay a star-filled sky, with two intersecting moons and countless glittering stars linked together like a vast sea. Even in the deep black of night, the light of the moons and stars was enough to illuminate everything.

High above, the sky was clear, not blue, but a pale golden hue, with two suns competing to shine. They revolved slowly, as if dancing around one another.

Looking into the distance, there was nothing but emptiness. Only a pillar of light could be seen rising far, far away, so distant that it looked as tiny as a thin tree trunk, yet it still pierced the heavens.

Nick instinctively turned to look behind him, only to find that the fog had vanished without him even realizing it. Behind him was the same silent emptiness, without even a hint of wind passing through.

And he, as if in the blink of an eye, stood at the very center of this desolate place, with no path left to walk.

He swallowed and instinctively shifted his back. "Silvanus, Silvanus, we've arrived."

But no matter how he called out, Silvanus did not respond.

Vivian suddenly jumped down, but she did not land on the ground. Instead, she simply hovered in front of Nick and said, "He's asleep. At least, I hope so."

Hopefully, Silvanus was truly asleep, and not something worse than that.

Nick could not help but wonder whether an Undead even needed to sleep. However, there was something far more important to him right now.

"Why can you talk? Are you really a divine beast?" Nick looked at Vivian's fur, which had grown a little gray and dull, and could not help feeling a pang of sympathy. Unfortunately, there was not even a lake here. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Vivian lifted her chin. "I'm more than a divine beast."

Nick frowned slightly as he watched Vivian's fur gradually grow fainter. "Vivian, are you really okay?"

Vivian flicked her tail, her eyes drooping a little. Then she suddenly leaped up and sat on Silvanus's skull.

"I feel like I'm about to die. It's time for me to leave," Vivian said, rubbing her head against Silvanus, speaking casually as if it were nothing.

Nick forced a laugh. "Don't joke around. Silvanus will get angry."

Vivian sneered. "Only ordinary people like you are afraid of Silvanus. Silvanus is childish. He's not scary at all."

Nick: "..." As expected of Vivian, there was nothing she did not dare to say.

Nick carried Silvanus and Vivian on his back and kept walking without stopping, until the sky and the ground exchanged colors. When the moon rose and the sky darkened, the land beneath their feet would transform into the scenery of the heavens.

Yet after an entire day and night passed, they had not moved even the slightest bit closer to that pillar of light.

Absolutely nothing before their eyes had changed at all. It was absurd beyond belief.

But Nick's stomach began to growl in hunger.

He set Silvanus down to one side. His bony body kept making clattering sounds, and if not for the tiny flames still flickering faintly in Silvanus's chest, he truly looked like a dried skeleton buried beneath the earth.

Nick held his stomach and muttered, "Silvanus still hasn't woken up..."

"I'm awake." At that moment, Silvanus's voice rang out, hoarse enough that it made Nick's throat ache just hearing it.

Nick could not help looking at him and asked with concern, "Are you okay?"

"Not okay," Silvanus said bluntly.

The injury within his soul made him weaker by the moment. He might be immortal, but he would never be able to escape this place.

He could not help looking at Nick. "Are you disappointed? The truth is, I'm not as strong as you imagined. I will die."

Nick fell silent for a moment. "I was already prepared to die back then. Since I'm still alive now, I'll just treat it as borrowed time." As he spoke, he looked down at the ground again, which at this moment reflected a sky full of stars. "Besides, this scenery is really beautiful."

Just then, a white figure suddenly leaped onto Silvanus's chest.

By instinct, Silvanus wanted to raise his hand and stroke Vivian's head, but right now, he could not even lift his arm.

When he saw Vivian's gray, dull fur, Silvanus could not help feeling a twinge of pain.

Even though Silvanus no longer had facial muscles, Vivian seemed able to read his emotions all the same.

She laughed lightly. "Why are you being so sentimental?"

She lay down on Silvanus's chest, as if hugging him, and continued, "I have to leave, Silvanus. I'm just going back to my home. I'll wait for you to come find me."

Silvanus froze slightly upon hearing this. "Vivian, what do you mean?"

By then, Vivian had already moved up to Silvanus's neck. "An Undead is called an Undead because of their immortality. Silvanus, even if your soul is damaged, it can still be repaired, by taking the souls of others. It's written in Lichina's handbook. One day, you'll read it. As for now..."

Silvanus directly restrained Vivian with both hands and said coldly, "Don't talk nonsense."

Nick hurriedly spoke up from the side. "That's right. We can keep going. Vivian, I can still endure hunger for another month!"
