Becoming a God Starts with Acting-Chapter 442: Asta
Ivy spread her wings wide, shielding Silvanus and Nick behind her, smiling as she looked at the massive lump of flesh before her. "Baratos, you’re a city lord of all things, yet you resort to blocking the road like this. That’s really not very honorable, you know."
As if Baratos cared about honor or the lack of it. At this moment, he had already straightened up, though it was hard to tell where his legs even were.
Drool poured from his mouth like plain water, streaming down his oversized body, cascading over layer after layer of fat like a waterfall.
Nick couldn’t help feeling nauseous. He hugged Silvanus and turned his face away.
Silvanus: "..."
"Ivy, move aside. Don’t ruin my mood for enjoying dinner," Baratos said as he licked his lips. "Otherwise, don’t blame me if I eat you too."
Ivy laughed softly. "Unfortunately, these are people under my protection. Do you really want to go up against Marax?"
Baratos paused for a moment, then finally opened his mouth and roared, "Catch that hobbit for me!"
At his command, his subordinates almost immediately pounced forward. They looked nothing like humans. Their bodies were enormous, their skin a dull reddish-brown gray, covered with strange blotches. They roared in unison, fangs flashing, then lunged toward Ivy and Nick!
Nick hurriedly dodged, at the same time hurling a fireball from his hand, blasting apart a demon that was rushing at them.
Ivy spread her wings as well. In her hand appeared a sphere of energy, pale purple at the center and gradually deepening outward until the outer edge was almost black.
She grabbed Nick and flew upward, then slammed the energy sphere down. The force it unleashed was so powerful that it swept away all the demons that were trying to take flight.
They were even blown apart, left scattered and motionless, unable to get back up. At the same time, Ivy hurriedly beat her wings and fled.
But Baratos was not about to let them succeed so easily.
He roared, "A bunch of useless trash!"
Immediately after, a portion of flesh on his body split away, actually transforming into a massive, razor-sharp sword. It seemed to possess a life of its own as it shot straight forward, chasing after Ivy’s retreating figure.
The sword’s speed was terrifyingly fast. Ivy did not even have time to dodge, but at that moment Silvanus raised his hand. A dense iron wall appeared instantly, directly blocking the incoming blade.
He clenched his fist. The iron flowed like liquid, beginning to coil tightly around the sword and dragging it straight down to the ground.
"That’s awesome, Silvanus!" Nick shouted excitedly. At the same time, his gaze caught sight of the gigantic figure continuing to pursue them. He immediately hurled countless fireballs, even though none of them could damage Baratos’s shield in the slightest.
Moreover, despite Baratos’s bloated, obese appearance, his speed was actually faster than theirs. In no time at all, his figure had drawn dangerously close.
He did not even rush to attack, instead seeming to savor this slow hunting process.
Ivy frowned and suddenly turned to Silvanus and Nick. "I feel like I may have to break my promise."
Hearing this, Nick’s eyes flew wide open, almost unable to believe what he had just heard. "What do you mean by that?!"
Ivy gave an awkward smile. At that very moment, Baratos in the distance suddenly opened his mouth wide. He seemed to have no limits on the muscles of his body. His mouth looked tiny at first glance, yet when opened, it was large enough to swallow dozens of human heads at once.
A thunderous sound burst from his mouth, tearing through the air. Violent winds shot forth like arrows, directly blasting Ivy away and at the same time generating crushing pressure that sent them hurtling toward the distant ground!
At the same instant, his body flickered, as if teleporting. In the blink of an eye, he appeared right above Ivy.
Ivy’s eyes widened. Before she could react, Baratos’s massive, heavy body slammed her down into the ground!
"Boom! Bang!"
The impact was so violent that the ground shook. It was not hard to imagine just how terrifying the weight behind Baratos’s descent was.
The earth beneath his body caved in, forming a huge crater. Meanwhile, Nick was still being flung away. Before he could come to a stop, his body suddenly crashed into something. A dull cracking sound came from his bones, and then he fell heavily to the ground, both arms thrown behind his back as he groaned in pain.
"Damn it!"
He roared, trying to see what on earth dared to block his path. But when he looked again, what met his eyes was nothing but empty space, as if what had just happened had only been his illusion.
Nick instinctively clutched Silvanus tightly and burst into tears. "Silvanus, there’s a ghost!!!"
Silvanus muttered, "What’s more terrifying is the demon over there that’s about to eat us."
At that moment, as if space itself were suddenly torn apart, the thing that had blocked their way finally revealed itself. It was a sedan chair, yet there was no one carrying it. It simply hovered one meter above the ground, swaying lightly in front of them. Gemstones glittered brilliantly, almost blinding to look at, and strings of jewels hung down, clinking constantly with even the slightest movement.
Nick stared at the scene with his mouth wide open. Even in his previous life, he had never seen so many gemstones and diamonds at once!
On the other side, Baratos had already hauled his heavy body back to its feet. As for Ivy, she had truly vanished completely, not even flattened beneath Baratos’s enormous bulk.
Nick couldn’t help clenching his fists, furious beyond measure. "I knew it from the start. She was never reliable at all. Damn it!"
No matter what, they now truly had to face Baratos on their own.
Nick stepped in front of Silvanus, his expression solemn. "Hide behind me, Silvanus. I absolutely won’t let you get hurt!"
As soon as he finished speaking, he charged forward, two fireballs continuously twisting and swirling in his palms.
"Boom!"
Before long, a dazzling streak of fire was blasted backward, colliding violently with the sedan chair once more.
Nick lay on the ground, wondering why he was so useless.
In truth, it was not that Nick was useless. It was simply because the one standing before them was Baratos, one of the city lords. Among demons, a race that worshiped strength above all else, only the strongest could become a city lord.
Baratos was naturally not someone a mere ordinary mage like Nick could hope to contend with.
At this moment, Baratos’s bloated body shifted again, heading straight for Silvanus. Silvanus raised his hand, and in the blink of an eye, countless sharp iron blades appeared before him.
But before the two sides could even meet, a piercing sound suddenly rang out. A gemstone on the sedan chair abruptly fell to the ground. Immediately after, before anyone could react, clusters upon clusters of gemstones sprouted at an unimaginable speed, transforming into countless razor-sharp spikes that pierced straight through Baratos’s charging body!
Baratos’s eyes flew wide open. Nick also stared blankly. At some point, the curtain formed from countless interlinked gemstones had been drawn aside. The person who appeared was dressed sloppily, with messy red hair and a pair of amber eyes still heavy with sleep.
He smiled at Baratos. "Baratos, that ugly appearance of yours is frightening my beauties."
Baratos roared in rage, each shout thunderous. "Asta, this has nothing to do with you. Get the hell out of here!"
Asta? Silvanus couldn’t help raising his brow. From his angle, he truly couldn’t see the figure clearly, but Asta... if Asta was really here, then Degenerate was certainly not far away.
"It really has nothing to do with me," Asta said lightly, "I just find you extremely unpleasant to look at. Get lost."
As he spoke, without giving Baratos any chance to react, Asta flicked a finger. The forest of gemstones wrapping around Baratos immediately grew wildly, dragging Baratos far away and out of their sight.
Nick hurriedly scooped Silvanus into his arms, casting a wary look at the man before them, and quickly said, "Thank you."
With that, he was about to leave. He truly did not want to trust any demon in this place anymore.
But at that moment, Silvanus suddenly tugged on Nick’s sleeve. Nick stopped instinctively, and Silvanus spoke up, "We’re also heading to Marax’s citadel. Could we travel with you?"
Asta raised an eyebrow, looking at the boy before him in surprise. He smiled, licking his lips. "Little hobbit, didn’t anyone teach you not to go around with strangers? And besides, how do you know I’m heading to Marax’s citadel?"
Why else? Just because you’re a flirt, Silvanus thought to himself.
On the surface, he said solemnly, "I don’t just know that you’re going to Marax. I also know that you’ll meet the destiny of your life there."
Hearing this, Asta couldn’t help but look astonished.
Silvanus kept his expression unchanged and continued, "A girl so beautiful that you’ll abandon all the other roses for her."
Nick couldn’t help chiming in, "Silvanus, that destiny should clearly be mine. I’ve always dreamed about something like that too."
Silvanus couldn’t help turning to look at Nick.
Nick asked in confusion, "What is it?" Why was Silvanus looking at him like that?
