Becoming The Strongest Using My Would-You-Rather System!-Chapter 38 - Testing And Unexpected Call
Theo remained still for a moment as the last droplets rained down from the sky.
He let out a deep breath.
’So this is Leviathan’s water,’ he thought, calming himself down. ’It’s a similar name to my Thunder Dragon’s lightning affinity.’
Closing his eyes, Theo focused on his core again.
There wasn’t any damage from the extra affinity on the core walls. In fact, both affinities were calm and didn’t interfere with each other, almost like they had their own sections.
’Should I test it out myself?’
He raised his hand in front of him and patiently began guiding the water mana through his body.
Unlike his lightning, the water mana didn’t shoot out of his body in violent bursts.
It maintained a calm pace, allowing itself to be guided outside without much effort.
’What a difference,’ Theo thought, pleasantly surprised. ’That’ll make learning spells far easier with this element.’
A thin stream of water gathered in his palm, slowly forming a sphere.
Theo watched it carefully, an image of what he wanted in his mind.
It was almost like he had full control over the element, as there was no resistance whatsoever.
’Let’s see what it can do.’
He guided the water sphere to a nearby piece of wood.
As the sphere touched the wood, it swallowed it whole.
A second later, the wood inside distorted before being crushed into splinters and released as fragments.
’It has really strong pressure,’ he thought, nodding slowly. ’Unlike normal water affinities, this one can be used to attack too.’ 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
His affinity could both be used to defend and attack, its only downside being that it’s relatively slow.
’Not that it matters since my lightning covers for fast long-range attacks.’
It wasn’t like an attack always needed to reach an opponent anyway.
’I could just create a water bubble shield,’ Theo immediately thought. ’That way, if someone attacks me, they’ll be drawn into the water by its pressure and drowned or crushed.’
His defense had always been a bit weak with just the lightning element. If there was something heading his way and he couldn’t move, there was no way to really block it.
Theo’s eyes narrowed slightly as another thought crossed his mind.
He imagined creating raindrops all around him like his awakening.
’If I run lightning through that... I can guide it wherever I want and electrocute monsters much more easily.’
Finally, he slowly let out a breath.
"That’s something I’ll have to test later."
Just understanding the basics of the element was the top priority now.
Theo let the remaining water disperse from his hand, watching as it faded back into the surroundings.
For a moment, he just stood there, taking in everything that had happened.
"It’s time to go home now," he said. "I’ll have to see how I go from here tomorrow."
He turned around, humming faintly as he began walking out of the forest.
It wasn’t anything particular, just a light tune caused by his good mood.
’Today went better than perfect,’ he thought, still smiling from ear to ear. ’I should bring something to celebrate for my parents.’
After a short walk, he reached the front door of his apartment.
He paused before stepping inside, raising both his hands in front of him.
In an instant, a round chocolate cake materialized on top of one of them.
’That’s one,’ he thought, picking it up with his other hand. ’Next one should be vanilla flavor for Mom.’
Just like that, a beautiful white cake materialized on top of his palm once again.
He shifted both cakes slightly in his hands, adjusting his grip before leaning forward.
With no free hand, Theo tilted his head and pressed his nose against the doorbell.
Ding—
A few seconds passed before he heard footsteps inside.
That’s when the door finally opened.
His mother stood there, her expression normal at first until she spotted the cakes in his hands.
"Surprise," Theo said, smiling.
His mother raised an eyebrow, conflicted.
"What’s all this for?" she asked. "Aren’t those cakes really expensive?"
"Something good happened," Theo said, stepping inside with a smile.
After closing the door behind him, his mother turned to him, still unsure.
"I broke through to Bronze Core," he continued, placing the cakes on the dinner table. "And I thought we should celebrate that."
Before his mother could even respond, his father’s voice echoed from the other room.
"What?!" he said, getting off the couch immediately. "You broke through already?"
Theo nodded casually, though he was filled with happiness and pride inside.
"That’s not possible," his father said as he stepped into the room. "You only started like, what, three weeks ago?"
He paused for a moment. "Especially with your affinity."
Theo simply smiled. "I got lucky."
Explaining the system wasn’t something he would ever do, but he needed his parents to at least be a little aware of his strength and the speed at which he grew.
That way, they could rely on him more, and his strength wouldn’t be a huge surprise at the competition.
"That’s incredible," his mother said, still trying to process it.
His parents exchanged a glance with each other, clearly in disbelief.
But they didn’t press further.
"A good reason to celebrate, right?" Theo said, breaking the tension.
His parents smiled, pulling back the chairs around the dinner table.
"Of course it is."
The three of them sat down together, eating as they talked.
The next morning, Theo woke up feeling refreshed.
His body clearly felt lighter than before, and his senses felt sharper too.
’Breakthroughs are so nice,’ he thought. ’It strengthened my body by a great deal too.’
After getting ready, he stepped outside and headed for the usual meeting spot.
Owen already stood there, waiting for him.
"Took you long enough," he said, glancing at him.
"Sure, sure," Theo said, raising his hands. "Give me a break."
"Now that you’re here—"
Before Owen could continue his sentence, Theo’s phone rang.
He glanced at the screen.
’Iris?’
