Being Op With My Broken System: All Limits Have Errors-Chapter 285: Interrogation
It didn’t take long for Alex to figure out what was going on, he was currently the prime suspect for stealing a valuable item from the vault.
Well, more like working with someone else to steal the item because, according to Vice Dean Hannah, a Core rank mage like Alex was too weak to make contact with the missing item, as it would be too dangerous.
After listening to the subsequent events of that day, even Alex realised that he would also suspect himself if he were in the position of the Magic University.
He had gone into the vault to claim his items, and while he was inside, magic beasts appeared in the university grounds near that area. This was something that had never happened before; the appearance of the magic beasts then required the two old men who were in charge of guarding the entrance to the vault to take action.
This left the vault without any protection, at the same time, someone had tampered with the security formation of the vault.
The item had been found missing some time later but Alex was already gone.
The chain of events was just too perfect to be a mere coincidence, and Alex was even starting to think that he had joined an organisation that was responsible for stealing without his knowledge.
How was he supposed to defend himself when everything was pointing at him?
"I’ll ask you again, do you know about the missing item?" Vice Dean Hannah asked once again after helping Alex understand what was going on.
Alex gazed at her, even with all the evidence pointing to him as the culprit, he still had to defend his innocence.
"No, I don’t know anything about the missing void key," Alex said with all seriousness.
The old woman frowned, and the brows of the two old men behind Alex shifted.
’This kid is tough,’
They both thought.
After staying silent for a while, Vice Dean Hannah stood up and walked out from behind her desk while still looking at Alex.
"Then, do you belong to any secret group? Or is someone forcing you to do this? Did they threaten you with something?" She asked a series of questions in one go.
The two old men behind Alex flinched and looked at her.
"You don’t mean..." one of them tried to ask, but Hannah interrupted before he could finish.
"Yes, the Dark Union. They might have anticipated this if he were a member and used some methods to block his memory or something to prevent him from speaking the truth.
Or he’s simply afraid of losing something dear to him if he tells us the truth." She said, her eyes locked on Alex as she tried to pick up any subtle reaction from him.
But Alex remained completely calm, not once did his expression change.
"I don’t belong to any group and no one is forcing me to do anything," he said confidently.
"Then you won’t mind if we check you to confirm that you’re really telling the truth." Vice Dean Hannah said right after Alex stopped talking, it was as if she had anticipated his response.
Alex didn’t want to appear more suspicious than he already was so he agreed without hesitation.
"Good, take off your uniform." Said Hannah.
Alex "..."
The two old men "..."
Noticing their expressions, Vice Dean Hannah calmly indicated that she only meant the top of Alex’s uniform, she wasn’t asking him to strip.
Alex obeyed and removed the blazer and shirt, revealing his fit body.
Hannah calmly walked up to him and placed one hand in front of his left chest before letting out a calm wave of mana, Alex instantly knew what she was doing.
This was the method to check for the mark of the Dark Union! If someone were a member of the Dark Union, a mark would instantly appear once the area was revealed to mana.
But even after several seconds, nothing happened. Vice Dean Hannah let out a breath of relief as she lowered her hand.
"At least we’re sure he’s not a part of the Dark Union," one of the old men said from behind after seeing the result of Hannah’s search.
"True, but we still can’t be sure that he’s not being controlled or forced to do things against his will," Hannah said as she took a step back while Alex started to dress up properly.
"Allow me then," one of the old men said and walked toward Alex.
He folded his fingers and pointed out two like a pen and began to draw something in the air, mana flowed out from his fingers and drew white runes as the man’s fingers moved.
In a bit, he had completed a round white formation that was the size of a crown in mid-air, and he then proceeded to move it towards Alex.
Alex didn’t resist and watched as the formation landed on his head. Although he didn’t know what type of formation this was, he recognised some of the runes that were normally used in detection and scanning.
That was why he didn’t try to dodge, the formation wasn’t harmful.
After landing the formation on Alex’s head, the office fell into silence as the eyes of the three mages stared at the formation closely.
After almost a minute, nothing happened. The old mage who had created the formation cut off the mana support, and the formation instantly vanished.
"He doesn’t have any controlling formations inside him either, so he’s definitely not being controlled." The old man said.
"What formation was that?" Alex turned to the old man and asked.
"It’s a high-level formation used to detect other formations in people," the old mage explained shortly.
Alex fell silent for a bit before asking what would have happened if he had been controlled.
"Nothing serious, if someone had tampered with your memories with a memory blocking formation or a heart dagger formation in your soul sea to prevent you from saying certain things, the formation that I created would have turned either red or black.
Red for memory block and black for heart dagger formation"
"Hmm, I see." Alex nodded before turning to face the Vice Dean, who was currently staring at him with a conflicted and stressed look in her eyes.
Alex understood what she was feeling. He was their only suspect and lead about the missing item, but all of their search had shown negative results; such a case could indeed be frustrating.
Alex was about to speak but someone entered the office at this moment without warning.
"Auntie !" A female voice called out after entering the office, she sounded urgent.
Everyone turned to look at Ellie who had suddenly rushed into the Vice Dean’s office with raised eyebrows.
’Aunty, I’ve almost forgotten that the university was almost like a family business to them. The Dean was her father, the Vice Dean was her auntie, and these two seem to be part of the family too.’ Alex thought while staring at Ellie who suddenly walked toward him.
"Are you alright?" Ellie asked as she touched Alex’s shoulder.
Before Alex could speak, Vice Dean Hannah’s voice sounded.
"Of course, he’s fine. We didn’t bring him here to hurt him. And mind your manners, young lady."
Ellie’s expression turned slightly embarrassed and she turned to face the Vice Dean.
"I’m sorry, Auntie. Ahem, I mean Vice Dean, I was just worried when I heard that he was called into your office after what happened a few days ago." Ellie said apologetically.
"You don’t have to be worried, he’s still a student of this university, so we won’t harm him without reason." One of the old men said to Ellie, a rare faint smile on his face.
Ellie smiled back before looking at Hannah again.
"Can he excuse us for a moment?" She asked.
Hannah stared at her in silence for a few seconds before nodding.
"Fine, he can go out for a bit."
A happy expression showed on Ellie’s face, she thanked Hannah before turning to Alex and asking him to go out for a moment.
Alex didn’t object and calmly walked out. After Alex left, Hannah asked her question right away.
"So what’s the meaning of this?"
"Alex is innocent," Ellie declared, her tone just as confident as Alex’s.
The two old men "..."
Vice Dean Hannah "..."
"And how would you know that, do you know who the real culprit is?" Hannah asked.
"No, but I trust Alex; he would never steal," Ellie stated with a strong gaze, leaving the three old mages speechless again.
Just what’s wrong with this girl?
Before any of them could say anything else, Ellie continued.
"Also, he seems to have a relationship with Mr Chen. Mr Chen wouldn’t take an interest in just anyone."
"You think I do not know that? That’s one of the reasons I haven’t taken any drastic measures." Vice Dean Hannah said with a tired sigh.
"Then do you think Mr Chen will be pleased if he finds out about this?" Ellie asked and the office fell into silence.
Some time later, Ellie came out and met with Alex outside.
"So what happened?" Alex asked after seeing her.
"They are going to let you off for now but will keep watching you as long as you’re in the university," Ellie said.
Alex smiled. Of course, he already knew this; after all, he had been listening to their conversation from outside.
He had witnessed Ellie’s faith in him and how she had defended him, he was touched.
