Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 254: Gabriel’s mistake (4)
Chapter 254: Gabriel’s mistake (4)
Gabriel watched as Xavier entered the dungeon and walked to his cell. Gabriel wanted nothing more than to wipe the smile off Xavier’s face and bash his head against the same bars keeping Gabriel in the dungeon.
"I hope this cell is good enough for you. I picked it out myself, so it’s close enough for you to have a word with the princess," Xavier said, briefly glancing at Morgana.
Morgana was finally a lot more quiet now that she realised where she placed herself. It was time to see how long Gabriel would be mouthy before he finally gave up.
"I don’t belong here. I only came to see Selene. If I had harmed you, then you would have a reason to hold me and keep me here in your dungeon, but you do not. The town guards will come looking for me," said Gabriel.
It was going to be strange when they didn’t see him around. First, they would check his home, which didn’t have any servants alive and the scent of blood lingered. Then, if they were smart, they should question Xavier.
"You could have let me be on my way, but instead, you made the big mistake of bringing me here. You put your hands on a town guard," Gabriel said, gripping the cold bars which kept him from harming Xavier.
Morgana covered her ears, but it didn’t help to block out what Gabriel was saying. Gabriel was going to get himself killed, and Morgana only hoped Xavier wouldn’t be in a bad mood to take his anger out on her as well.
Morgana stared at Xavier. His calmness was leading Gabriel on to keep talking. If Gabriel were smart, he would realise the guards in the back were pouring water and there was steam coming from it.
Morgana moved as far away from Gabriel’s cell as she could until her back pressed against the cold wall of her cell. She couldn’t go through having water thrown on her again, and she certainly couldn’t have it be hot water.
"Speak!" Gabriel yelled, frustrated with Xavier’s silence. He needed Xavier to speak so he could know what the plans for bringing him here were. "Say something. If you brought me here to kill me, then say it. Don’t act like a saint now."
Gabriel wasn’t interested in the games Xavier wanted to play. If he was going to die, then Xavier should get it over with. He already felt like he was dying because of the wound which wasn’t healing.
"Wash him," Xavier ordered the guards.
Gabriel’s gaze flickered to the guards carrying buckets of water. He started to laugh at Xavier’s way of torturing him, but that changed when he noticed the steam coming from the buckets.
It was either hot water or something else hot.
"You bastard," Gabriel muttered as he ran to the back of his cell.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t far enough to get out of reach of where the guards tossed the water.
A loud cry filled the dungeon as Gabriel’s skin burned from the heat of the water. It felt like it just came off the fire.
Morgana still tried to cover her ears to block out as much of Gabriel’s screams as she could. Normally, this wouldn’t bother her, but the fact this could be her punishment as well if Xavier felt like it terrified her.
Morgana looked away from Gabriel and Xavier. It was going to be harder for her to sleep now.
Gabriel grabbed his chest where his wound strung even more now thanks to the hot water which steeped through his shirt. He glared at Xavier and the men who did this to him.
"Let’s get something understood. I don’t care who is out looking for you, and I don’t care what title the king gave you. As you might have noticed, I don’t care for mouthy royals. I have instructed my guards to torture you in different ways each time you cause a scene," Xavier revealed.
Given Gabriel’s personality and loud mouth, Xavier believed Gabriel would be tortured every day until he finally broke.
"You’re here because I plan to kill you. Yes, I am being petty to hold you in my dungeon because of how you treated my wife, but I am also keeping you here because you’re the fool who married one of the people responsible for attacks on our kind," Xavier shared.
Xavier knew this bit of knowledge was going to start an interesting conversation between Morgana and Gabriel since it was something Gabriel wanted to hide.
"You want to work together to escape my dungeon? Go on," Xavier encouraged the pair. "I’ve never had anyone make it out, but if you do, it would mean I have to redesign my dungeon so the people after you don’t get out, and that is always fun for me."
"Don’t underestimate us," Gabriel said.
Xavier chuckled. "You never notice what occurs around you. Are you aware that among the purebloods who hate mixed-bloods, the princess and her brother are at the top of the list? If she agrees to get out of here with your help, Morgana will stab you in the back the first chance she gets."
"I am not plotting to do anything with him. If you let me out, I won’t come back here again. I won’t tell my brother I was here, or I won’t speak of him being here," Morgana said, referring to Gabriel.
Gabriel couldn’t believe Morgana would sacrifice him so fast just so she could get out. "You!"
"That would be a tempting offer if I believed you, Morgana. You are going to stay right where you are now and enjoy Gabriel’s company. In time, I will put both of you out of your misery. For now, enjoy your stay in the dungeon. Torture them," Xavier ordered the guards as he turned to walk away.
Morgana scrambled to her feet. "I only dressed as your wife. I didn’t harm her."
Xavier continued walking without explaining himself since there wasn’t a need to.
If given the chance, Morgana would have harmed Selene during her time sneaking around the estate. Xavier didn’t doubt she would have found a way to send Selene off to her brother.
It didn’t matter to Xavier what she didn’t do since he knew what she would do.
Gabriel wanted to yell for Xavier to come back or for Selene to come, but seeing the guards looking through weapons they would use on him and the princess, he had bigger problems to worry about.
Gabriel glared at Morgana. His plans to work with her were over since he wouldn’t be able to trust her.
Morgana avoided Gabriel’s gaze. "Don’t look at me like that. You would do the same if it meant getting out."
