Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 301: Panic (3)

Selene sat with Agnes and the other servants, waiting for any news about the humans who had tried to attack the estate.
Selene thought about the possibility of Cassandra being present at first, but she quickly went back to thinking about Xavier.
Had he come across Darius already? Was he well or injured? How much longer did he need to be away from home?
These questions repeated in her mind over and over again. They wouldn’t stop until she heard that Xavier was still well.
Selene tried not to let her worry show now that she was sitting before the servants, who were also afraid. As long as she appeared composed, the servants weren’t as nervous as before.
Selene continued to look out the window and noticed guards going back to their places, which meant the threat was gone.
"Can I prepare you something to drink?" Agnes asked.
"No," Selene replied. How could she drink at a time like this? "I am still full from dinner. I had enough blood then, but if you need something, you may leave to get it. Perhaps some food for everyone would take their minds off what is happening."
"Lucas," Selene said, standing up from her chair as Lucas came to her in a hurry. "What is it? Did they get rid of all of the intruders?"
"They have. Lord Blackthorn is on his way back, but is taking care of the last of the intruders. He sent the others back to their posts," Lucas shared.
Selene left where she sat with the others and went upstairs to her bedroom, since it might be the first place Xavier looked for her.
She ran instead of walking to get there sooner. She wanted to enter their bedroom and not have the smell of blood fill the room or to see Xavier weak because he was wounded.
Lucas was behind Selene, along with Agnes, since Xavier’s return did not mean their duties had ended.
Selene opened the door and entered in search of Xavier, but he was not there. She was not disappointed since the threat he was getting rid of might take some time to remove.
"I’m sorry," Selene apologised to the pair. "I ran for nothing."
"It is not for nothing," Agnes replied. "I’m sure Lord Blackthorn is on his way to see you. I will prepare some warm water and get a cloth in case there is anything which needs to be cleaned."
"His clothes will need to be changed," Selene said, going in search of what Xavier would wear.
It provided a small distraction as Selene waited for his arrival, and it wasn’t long before she heard noise on the balcony.
Selene placed the shirt she picked out on the bed and walked to the balcony door, which opened as Xavier walked inside.
Selene inspected his body for any signs of a wound. There wasn’t any blood on his clothes, but there was some on his hands, and the scent of blood lingered on him.
"I am fine," Xavier said, standing still as Selene searched him.
All he wanted to do was hug her since he returned to their home still standing and Selene was not approached by anyone, but that wasn’t going to happen until she saw for herself that he was fine.
"Oh, I didn’t know that your tears could be so pretty," Xavier said, touching her face. "Leave us," Xavier ordered Lucas.
Lucas left without question but wondered what Xavier planned to do about his grandfather, who didn’t seem to care that the couple wanted to be alone.
"Your hands have blood on them," Selene said, worried about whose blood it was.
Xavier moved his hand from Selene’s face. "It is not my blood," he said, not wanting anyone’s blood on her face. "We need to clean that off."
"Agnes is bringing warm water for me to clean off any blood. You must be tired, so I will clean it off for you," Selene offered. It was the least she could do for Xavier now.
"Rather than that, I would prefer that we-"
"Orlork!" Selene gasped, noticing the man standing outside. Selene stepped away from Xavier. "Forgive me. I didn’t see you there."
"Don’t worry. I came with Xavier and he forgot that I was here. How are you fairing?" Orlork asked, stepping into the room.
"I am fine since I wasn’t the one out fighting. I am relieved to see Xavier back home safely. You as well," Selene said, so Orlork wouldn’t feel left out.
"You can leave now. There is nothing more for you to see," Xavier said, annoyed that Orlork was still present.
By now, Orlork should know how to read a room and know it was time for him to leave.
"There is still so much for us to speak about. The king is dead. The one who was after your mother in the past. Dorian Nox is dead," Orlork said, ignoring Xavier’s wishes for him to leave as he walked further into the room. "Your grandfather took care of it. Wonderful man."
Selene looked out the balcony before turning her gaze back to Orlork. "Where is he now? Is he coming here?"
"I do not know. He has to get rid of the blood on the weapon he used since the king’s killers will be tracked down. That reminds me, you should take that weapon away from here for now," Orlork said, now realising Xavier shouldn’t have come home.
"I will take care of that little issue for you using the humans outside. Give the weapons to me, and I will get rid of the trail you left behind. I will return them to you," Orlork promised, holding out his hand for the other weapon.
"The weapon Darius and Vivienne were killed with is still in the palace. The one in your hand is the other weapon I used. The trail is on you," Xavier revealed.
"You sneaky bastard. Setting up your grandfather like this. You do not mind if I use that human woman, do you? I will be back," Orlork said, returning to the balcony to leave.
"We must get rid of that door," Xavier said, giving Selene all his attention again.
"Before that, you must get cleaned up," Selene said, taking it upon herself to take off his shirt. "Please tell me there is nothing more for you to do tonight. That you will remain home and let the town guards take care of any dangers out there."
"There are demons to be caught and killed, but I will pass it off to Isaac so he can be the hero and find his way back into the court. It is boring to have him work with me," said Xavier.
Selene smiled, knowing Isaac would like that very much.
