Chapter 248: Chapter 236: Twenty-Four Filial Exemplary Husbands (First Update)

The next day, Yi Luowa slept in until eight o’clock. She turned her head to see that Tong Airui was still in bed. She blinked, trying hard to recall what had happened last night... Yi Luowa shifted under the covers; although it didn’t hurt as much anymore, it still felt a little uncomfortable. What bothered her the most was her legs, which seemed like they didn’t belong to her anymore.

Tong Airui slowly opened his eyes and turned his head toward her. "Does it still hurt? You fell asleep last night, so I applied the medicine for you again."

Yi Luowa looked at him pitifully. "I think my legs are done for."

"I’ll be your legs." Tong Airui hugged her apologetically.

Yi Luowa wriggled in his arms. "What time is it? Why haven’t you gone to work yet?"

Tong Airui gently patted her shoulder. "I’m on sick leave today."

Yi Luowa asked worriedly, "What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

"Not at all. I just wanted to spend some extra time with you. I already told Dapeng that if there’s no big emergency, don’t bother me." Tong Airui smiled and bumped her forehead lightly. "I’ll be your legs; wherever you want to go, I’ll carry you there."

Yi Luowa’s face turned red. "I want to go to the bathroom right now."

Tong Airui got out of bed and carried her into the bathroom. Yi Luowa glanced at the bathrobes and towels scattered on the floor, and her brows furrowed slightly.

Tong Airui, discerning her discontent with the mess, hurriedly picked them up and tossed them into the washing machine.

"And the dirty bedsheets?" Yi Luowa, worried that someone might see them, clung to the bathroom sink and started directing him.

"Oh, I think I stuffed them in the closet." Tong Airui walked out and began rummaging through the cabinet.

Seeing him leave, Yi Luowa locked the door and cautiously sat down on the toilet.

Tong Airui came back with the bedsheets and noticed the door was locked. He gently knocked. "It’s just the two of us at home. Why are you locking the door?"

"Because it’s just the two of us, that’s precisely why I locked the door!" Yi Luowa retorted, annoyed and in discomfort.

"I’ve seen it all before. Why are you still so shy? Really..." Tong Airui grumbled, standing outside the door, waiting for her. "Call me when you’re done. Don’t walk on your own. Wife, what do you feel like eating for breakfast?"

Yi Luowa rubbed her head. "I’m in the bathroom, and you’re asking me what to eat? I want to eat you!"

"Eat, whatever you’d like to eat." Tong Airui chuckled. "But, honestly, I don’t think you’d be able to eat me right now. Rest up for a few days, and then I’ll let you eat to your heart’s content."

"You rascal!" Yi Luowa stood up in frustration, her legs giving way almost immediately.

Tong Airui heard the commotion and banged on the door. "Wife, what’s wrong?"

Yi Luowa didn’t respond, bracing herself against the wall as she made her way to the sink to wash up.

Tong Airui, deeply worried, fetched the key and unlocked the bathroom door.

Yi Luowa turned to glance at him. "Which toothbrush is mine?"

"The pink one. Hang on." Tong Airui threw the bedsheets into the washing machine, grabbed her toothbrush, squeezed toothpaste onto it, and handed it over.

Yi Luowa pouted. "Thanks." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

"It’s what I should do." Tong Airui placed both hands on her waist and smiled. "Should I brush your teeth for you?"

Yi Luowa nudged him with her elbow. "Stop acting all attentive for no reason. I’m already stressing over how I’ll get to class this afternoon."

"I’ve already requested leave for you. The afternoon class isn’t related to your major, so I’ll tutor you later."

Yi Luowa tilted her head slightly, and her soft, pink earring unintentionally brushed against Tong Airui’s jaw.

Tong Airui immediately rubbed the spot for her. "Did that hurt?"

"No. You know my class, huh?"

"I coincidentally know a bit about the subject you’re taking this afternoon." Resting his chin against her shoulder, Tong Airui smiled. "Come on, brush your teeth. Then we’ll eat. Last night you kept complaining about being hungry—don’t starve yourself thin again."

Yi Luowa pursed her lips, picked up the blue toothbrush, squeezed toothpaste onto it, and handed it to him.

Tong Airui looked stunned. "I get this special treatment?"

"I’m rewarding you for getting me excused from class. You know, afternoon classes are my least favorite. Back in F Country, I used to skip them. But here in Xiawu, I feel too embarrassed—don’t want to tarnish your reputation."

"I know. You only aced one subject; for the rest, you barely scraped by using competition results to offset your grades."

Yi Luowa laughed. "That’s just luck. The Go tournaments always clashed with exams."

"Your luck isn’t ordinary."

Shoulder to shoulder, the two picked up their toothbrushes. Yi Luowa gazed at Tong Airui’s reflection in the mirror, while Tong Airui did the same. Yi Luowa smiled, and Tong Airui mirrored her smile.

Once they finished freshening up, Tong Airui carried her downstairs. "You didn’t get to try my cooking last night, so I’ll make it for you again this morning."

Overwhelmed by the warmth, Yi Luowa grinned widely. "Let’s hope it’s edible. But it does look like it might turn out well. Sir, how do you even know how to do these things? I can only make instant noodles at this point."

"In the military, you have to learn everything. Sometimes, if you don’t cook, you risk starving." Tong Airui carried her into the dining room. "Sit here and wait for me. Cooking noodles doesn’t take long."

"I want to watch you cook." Yi Luowa hooked her arms around his neck, refusing to let go.

Tong Airui chuckled. "How am I supposed to cook if you’re clinging to me like this?"

"I’ll stand next to you and watch."

"Are your legs up for it?"

"They are."

At Yi Luowa’s insistence, the two moved to the kitchen. Tong Airui held her waist with one hand while working with the other.

Seeing him struggle to slice tomatoes with one hand, Yi Luowa quickly helped steady them. Together, they managed to prepare two bowls of deliciously fragrant tomato-egg noodles in no time.

Despite its simplicity, the breakfast tasted like happiness to Yi Luowa. Turns out, even their tiny home could feel so cozy.

While Tong Airui washed the dishes, Yi Luowa suddenly remembered the macaw. She asked quickly, "Sir, where’s Bandit?"

Tong Airui glanced out the window and replied jealously, "Still hopping around outside."

Yi Luowa made a silly face behind his back. "Sir, why don’t you teach me to cook tomorrow?"

"Why am I suddenly ’Sir’?"

"Hehe... because you’re always full of drama!" Yi Luowa laughed.

Tong Airui shot her an exasperated look. "Not teaching!"

"Fine, suit yourself. I was thinking of making you a meal one day, but if you won’t teach me, I guess I’ll save myself the trouble."

"Wives are meant to be pampered, not turned into maids. We have servants at home, and I’ve got subordinates here. You really don’t need to lift a finger."

"But I see your mom cooking sometimes."

"My mom only cooks when she’s sneaky about it. My dad can’t bear to let her cook, and every time she does, he gets mad."

"So this is inherited, huh?"

"It’s tradition! Dad says only men who cherish their wives are good men."

Yi Luowa covered her mouth as she laughed. "You and your dad really nailed that. It’s just Tong Aino who’s a little hopeless!"

"He’s only decent in public. When he’s alone, he just slumps." Tong Airui put away the clean dishes, wiped his hands, and walked over. "Do you want to lie down in bed or go out for a stroll?"

"Lie down. Standing for too long makes my legs shake. If I take a few steps, who knows how long it’ll take for me to recover?"

"Alright, back to bed it is." Tong Airui was exceptionally agreeable today—whatever his wife said, he followed. He picked her up and carried her upstairs.

In his arms, Yi Luowa whispered, "Sir, do you think there’s still hope for Third Brother and Su Qing?"

"Hmm? Did you hear something?"

"Su Qing told that guy she doesn’t want to hear a single word about Third Brother. Seems she really hates him now."

"Do you know who that guy is?"

"Should be one of Third Brother and Su Qing’s classmates. He looks pretty familiar."

"Probably Shao Gang. It’s likely Third Brother sent him to speak with Su Qing." Tong Airui rubbed his temple. After staying awake all night, even thinking made his head hurt.

"Are you feeling unwell, Sir?" Yi Luowa asked, looking up at him.

"Not unwell, just sleep-deprived."

"Then take a nap." Yi Luowa pulled up the blanket for him.

Tong Airui gazed at her. "Will you nap too?"

"Not sure. My mind’s full of random thoughts—I don’t even know if I can fall asleep." Yi Luowa pouted.

"So small, yet so full of worries. What are you worrying about?"

Yi Luowa counted on her fingers. "I’m wondering what those uncles will do with the cars, hoping everyone else can be as happy as we are, and thinking about my Second Uncle and Huo Li—I wonder how they’re doing?"

"We can visit them this weekend. As for the rest of the family, don’t fret—they’ll definitely find happiness."

As Tong Airui comforted her, Yi Luowa’s phone rang.

Tong Airui picked it up, glanced at the screen, and then handed it to her. "Shanshan’s calling. What does she need from you?"

"Let me ask. Maybe she and Old Seven have good news." Yi Luowa smiled and answered the call.

"Luowa, Maizekai is going on a blind date today."

"What? Really?"

"It’s true. One of his coworker’s sisters. I saw him leave with his coworker." Jimo Shanshan’s voice was tinged with tears.

Yi Luowa’s expression grew conflicted as she thought for a moment. "Shanshan, do you truly love Old Seven?"

"Thinking about him going on a blind date—it hurts like I’ve lost my most cherished possession. Do you think I love him?"

"Then go stop him before he succeeds!"

Tong Airui shook his head at her.

Yi Luowa mouthed to him, "Help Shanshan out. Don’t you see how much Grandma likes her?"

"Grandma likes you more." Tong Airui mouthed back.

Yi Luowa pouted and gave him a playful glare, then brought the phone back to her ear. "Shanshan? Hey, Shanshan, are you still there?"

"I’m here. I’m going to find him. Luowa, I’m getting on the elevator. I’ll call you back later." Jimo Shanshan hurriedly hung up.

Listening to the dial tone, Yi Luowa chuckled and said, "Good luck!"

Tong Airui nudged her. "You’re sending Shanshan off to fight for Old Seven. But with Old Seven’s stubborn streak, I’m afraid Shanshan might end up hurt."

Yi Luowa disagreed. "If she gets hurt and still stands back up, then she’s a warrior—it proves she truly loves Old Seven. If she gives up at the first setback, I won’t respect her."

"You’re the only actual warrior out of you all." Tong Airui sighed, placed the phone back on the bedside table, and said, "I don’t want to care about anything anymore—I just want to hold you like this every day."
