Chapter 256: Chapter 244 I Won’t Hit Him (Third Update)

"What did your brother do to offend you again?" Tong Yao teased as she glanced at her daughter.

Teng Aini came over, clinging to Teng Tianxiang’s arm, and said, "Grandpa, look at my mom. She’s so biased towards my brother! He throws his fits upstairs, and she just ignores him, even glaring at me!"

"What kind of fit is your brother throwing now?" Teng Tianxiang patted his granddaughter’s hand comfortingly. "I’ll stand up for you later."

"He went upstairs and knocked on my door. As soon as I stepped out, he’d go back to his room. Then, when I returned to my room, he’d come knocking again. Back and forth, over and over! Just now, he came downstairs and kicked my door open with one foot, scaring me nearly to death."

Teng Tianxiang chuckled at his granddaughter and then looked at You Jia with mock annoyance. "Serves you two right for hiding in your rooms instead of keeping your grandpa company. Your brother did nothing wrong!"

Teng Aini pouted. "Bias! You all like my brother more, don’t think I don’t know that!"

Yi Luowa smiled and handed a box of black chess pieces to Teng Tianxiang.

"Sis-in-law, you’re laughing too? Aren’t you going to do something about my brother?" Teng Aini snatched the chess box, puffing angrily.

Yi Luowa pursed her lips. "He doesn’t even acknowledge me. How would I dare approach him? If he kicked me, my ribs wouldn’t be as sturdy as your door."

"He dares to kick you?" Teng Aini sneered. "I think I’ve figured it out—this family hears complaints about anyone, just not about my brother."

"Hand me the chess pieces. I’m ready to start." Teng Tianxiang tapped Teng Aini’s arm.

Teng Aini wrinkled her nose and handed the box back to him. "If you play chess with my sis-in-law, prepare to lose!"

"Losing to her is fine by me!" Teng Tianxiang laughed as he placed a piece on the chessboard.

Yi Luowa covered her smile with her hand. "I’ve heard the stories of how great Grandpa plays chess—there’s no way I won’t lose."

"For the first game, we play seriously. Let Grandpa see your real skills."

"Sis-in-law, didn’t you hear? Grandpa said you can only win one game against him." Teng Aini smirked as she tilted her head to provoke the old man.

Teng Tianxiang glanced at You Jia, exasperated. "Take her away—she’s like an annoying little loudspeaker, rattling my brain."

"Haha, was waiting for you to say that!" Teng Aini stood up laughing and pulled You Jia along. "Let’s go to the garden to play with Dabao, Erbao, and Jacques."

You Jia flicked her nose with a grin. Truly, she was the only one bold enough to provoke the old man this way.

With Yi Luowa keeping him company for chess, Teng Tianxiang had no time to pay attention to Teng Aini. Smiling, he placed another chess piece. "Always trying to rile me up!"

Yi Luowa placed her next piece casually, but while her expression remained cheerful, her thoughts were turbulent. She glanced at the study door and wondered, "Could it really be that my brother-in-law’s on his period?"

In the study, Tong Airui paced back and forth, his eyes frequently darting to the door, his ears on high alert for any noise outside. "That wretched girl. I’m here fuming, and she’s out there laughing and playing chess with Grandpa?"

Wait! Wait for her to come and coax me!

Like a caged beast, Fourth Master paced back and forth in the study, kicking the sofa when it got in his way and the trash can when it irked him.

Five minutes later, Tong Airui hesitated for a moment before pushing the door open and stepping outside.

Don’t look at her—absolutely do not look at her!

Tong Airui stared straight at his mother. "Mom, when’s dinner? I still have things to do this afternoon."

Tong Yao looked at her son’s dark face and asked tentatively, "Can we wait until your Grandpa and Luowa finish their game? Would that be okay?"

Tong Airui didn’t respond, but from the corner of his eye, he peeked at Yi Luowa.

This time, it was Yi Luowa who ignored him. Whether coming or going, to school or back home, he hadn’t given her the time of day. Why should she bother warming up to someone so cold?

Seeing that Yi Luowa didn’t even lift her head, Tong Airui grew furious. "Fine, then I won’t eat. I’m leaving!"

Yi Luowa hesitated for a moment but then placed another chess piece on the board.

Seeing her mistake her move, Teng Tianxiang quickly picked up a black piece and placed it down. "Girl, you’re not paying attention to the game—you’re going to lose."

Yi Luowa looked at the board and assessed the situation. "You’re right, I lost. Grandpa, you’re amazing!"

Teng Tianxiang smiled and turned to Tong Airui, who hadn’t actually left yet, and said, "Weren’t you in a hurry to leave? Why are you still here? If you go, Luowa and I will just play another round."

Yi Luowa lowered her head and began sorting the chess pieces one at a time. "Go or don’t go. I don’t care," she thought to herself.

Tong Airui glanced at her but, seeing that she still ignored him, spun on his heel and left.

"Girl, did you make him mad?" Teng Tianxiang asked with a chuckle.

Yi Luowa pouted. "Why would I dare provoke him? And as you saw, Grandpa, I spoke to him, and he just ignored me."

Tong Yao shook her head helplessly. This pair, just like each other—hot-headed and unpredictable!

"Grandpa, another round?" Yi Luowa asked with a smile.

"That rascal’s gone. Let’s have another..."

"Yi Luowa! You caused my temper to flare, and you still dare to claim innocence!" Tong Airui had stomped back in before the old man could finish his sentence.

Tong Yao glanced at him, part amused, part exasperated.

The old man subtly pointed at Yi Luowa and said, "He says you’ve ticked him off."

Yi Luowa looked up at Tong Airui’s stormy face and said lazily, "Don’t scare the kids. Let’s go somewhere else to talk."

"Come upstairs with me," Tong Airui commanded and headed up first.

Tong Yao, a bit worried, stopped Yi Luowa from following. "Luowa, he’s upset. Don’t stoop to his level."

Yi Luowa smiled sweetly at Tong Yao. "Mom, I know. Don’t worry. I won’t hit him."

Tong Airui turned his head, his eyes cold and sharp.

Yi Luowa stuck out her tongue playfully and quickly followed him up the stairs.

Tong Yao watched them disappear into a room, sighing quietly. "I used to think Rui’er treated Luowa so well that they’d never quarrel. But look at this—they’ve only been engaged for days, and Rui’er’s already acting up. This better not mess up their engagement."

Light Rain giggled and said, "Mom, don’t worry. They’ll never actually fight."

"Hmm?" Tong Yao looked at her with confusion.

"Airui just wants Luowa’s full attention on him—all of it."

Tong Yao pondered this and then smiled. "You might be right about that."

Meanwhile, Fourth Master, whose family had dissected him thoroughly behind his back, sat like royalty with his legs crossed on the sofa. When Yi Luowa entered, he pointed to a spot in front of him. "Come here and stand properly!"

Yi Luowa, compliant, walked over and stood where he gestured, hands clasped behind her back.

"Stand straight!" Seeing her cooperation eased his anger slightly. Only slightly.

Yi Luowa cocked her head and grinned. "Duke Audric, may I ask what I’ve done to offend you?"

"Stand properly! Stop smirking!" Tong Airui growled coldly.

Yi Luowa chuckled, then suddenly grabbed a nearby pillow. Without hesitation, she began whacking him with it. "For pretending! For making trouble out of nothing! For yelling at me! You’re such a brat—getting mad at the drop of a hat, you lousy..."

She hit him while complaining but soon lost track of her words. Why wasn’t he fighting back? Was he just going to sit there and take it?

Yi Luowa paused, holding the pillow high, and glanced at him.

In an instant, Tong Airui removed the arms protecting his head, swiftly pulled her into his arms, and carried her straight to the bed in just a few strides.

Yi Luowa raised her foot to kick him, but Tong Airui caught her ankle and firmly pinned her down. "Have you hit me enough yet?"

With their noses touching, Yi Luowa tried to turn her face away in disdain. Tong Airui grabbed her chin and forced her to face him, squishing her soft face until it resembled a tiny bun.

"No—" Yi Luowa barely managed to squeeze out the word with her mouth pinned shut.

"Still no?" He bit her pouting lips lightly.

"Crazy!"

"Which one of us is crazy? Didn’t you promise Mom you wouldn’t hit me? Why are you hitting me now?" Tong Airui released her squished face, pulled her hands free, and pinned them over her head.

Finally able to speak properly again, Yi Luowa glared at him fiercely. "I’ll beat you to death!"

"Go ahead, hit me. Let’s see what you’ll use to hit me with." Tong Airui smirked, pinning her arms and legs with a maddeningly smug expression.

Yi Luowa mustered all her strength and suddenly lifted her head. If her headbutt landed, neither of them would come out unscathed.

Tong Airui dodged quickly. "You little lunatic!"

"Who’s the lunatic here? At school, you ignored me. At home, I call out to you, and you still ignore me. What did I ever do to you? If you’re going to kill me, at least let me die knowing why!"

"You’re the one who ignored me first! I went to pick you up from school, and you didn’t even glance at me. Then you happily got into Third Brother’s car, laughing and chatting away. Come on, open your mouth—I want to check if you laughed so hard you lost a few teeth."

"Ridiculous! Did I laugh? I was discussing something serious with Third Brother—I couldn’t possibly have been laughing."

Yi Luowa squirmed beneath him. "Get off me. I can’t breathe."

"Nope." Tong Airui freed one hand and reached towards her.

Yi Luowa’s expression darkened instantly. "Tong Airui, I’m trying to have a serious conversation with you. Be serious!"

"I’m listening. Go on." Tong Airui showed no intention of retracting his hand.

"Tong Airui!"

Fourth Master froze at her shout.

"Tong Airui, I’ve just figured it out—you’re sulking because you’re jealous. Third Brother is your own sibling, and you’re even jealous of him. What’s going to happen in the future? You need to fix this petty behavior!"

"Why couldn’t he talk to you about it at home? He came to find you at school twice already—more often than I do!"

Yi Luowa shot him a glare. "Third Brother was dealing with a tough problem, and you were all busy. He had no choice but to consult me."

"A tough problem? What kind of problem?" Tong Airui’s face darkened further. If anyone dared trouble Third Brother, he’d make sure they regretted it!
