Chapter 461: A comforting blanket

Finally, all the omegas were cleared out of this horror room, and Andrew and the police could begin trying to get Nicole out of this place. It seemed as if on an instinctual level, Nicole knew that the omegas weren’t in the rooms anymore. She was more aware, still shaking, but it appeared as if she was breathing easier.

Andrew didn’t know how she could be given how rancid the rooms smelled, but he was glad that she was feeling better. It meant that he was able to help her to her feet, hold her upright as she tried to hobble out of the room.

She reacted terribly when someone else tried to help her walk, or tried to help her in general. Andrew’s hands were covered in bitemarks. He’d at some point smartened up and began to offer her his more protected arms, but the damage was done. He was going to get a lecture from Maxwell about it later, but that was for a different Andrew.

Right now, he was protecting his younger sister.

On base level, there was a part of Andrew that was happy that Nicole was only letting him help her. He knew that it was dangerous for anyone to try and help her right now, as was obvious by his hands, but he wanted to believe that there was a part of Nicole that recognised Andrew behind all of the walls she had put up to protect herself.

Somehow, Andrew got Nicole out of the tiny, stuffy, disgusting bathroom and out into the thin, long hallway of hell. Tucked into every doorway down the hall were professionals. Seasoned veterans who were used to dealing with these kinds of situations. At least, they were used to these kinds of recovery missions for omegas.

They were out of their depth right now.

This was an unprecedented situation. That was what Andrew kept hearing in hushed tones from the professionals. Andrew understood why they were saying that, he did, but he hated hearing it. He knew that this was one of the strangest, most horrifying situations that he could ever even imagine. He was sure that the police had also felt the same way when Jenny had uncovered what was going on in the Proctor mansion.

Now they were getting a full fucking idea of what these rooms were used for. Normal people would have considered that these rooms were meant for true alphas to get their rocks off in a twisted power play. It was hard for those, Andrew included, who viewed the omegas as the only victims in the equation, to realise that the rooms could be used in this way. Andrew had to come face to face with the fact right now.

There was an even more horrifying layer for Andrew specifically. Something that had been floating around in his mind ever since he’d caught sight of Tracey in these rooms.

It was probably this kind of treatment in combination with the experimental medication that brought around Andrew’s manifested in the first place. Andrew couldn’t forget that sickly, overly sweet garbage smell that had come from Tracey. He also couldn’t forget the moment that he realised that she was in heat, and Andrew felt nauseous all over again.

He had to keep it together because Nicole needed him, but Andrew foresaw him throwing up in a toilet later. Hopefully in his own home, with Maxwell nearby.

Andrew’s stomach rolled again, but he kept it down. He’d done so well until now, so why was his stomach revolting now? Nicole needed him to keep his head on his shoulders.

Andrew’s grip on his sister’s waist tightened, more for his own sanity than for hers. He listened to the people talking in hushed tones around him, whispering into walkie talkies as Andrew and Nicole made their slow but steady progress out.

Until Nicole freaked out as soon as they got to the main room. She let out this low, keening cry that had everyone on high alert.

Several police officers were standing in the doorway of the room, while a few were also scattered around the main room. Someone had gotten a large flood light. It did not make anything better to see the horror of the room in definition.

Nicole had fallen to her knees in the filth, her hands over her face as she began to make this low moaning sound that terrified Andrew. Andrew and several other people had to get involved. He tried to yank her to her feet, several of the other betas who normally worked with omegas attempting to do the same. More for her own safety than anything else.

Nicole started lashing out, screaming, crying, tears streaming down her face. Andrew’s heart, which was already battered and bruised from the situation, nearly shattered in his chest. He knew that this was not a side of Nicole that she ever wanted to show. This wasn’t her, this was her at her weakest, most vulnerable.

He was glad that most of the police officers had turned their bodies slightly so that they didn’t have a view of what was happening for their body cameras, but what was happening could be heard still.

"We need to subdue her!" One of the professionals shouted over Nicole’s wails. Andrew hated to hear the words from their lips, but he knew that they had to. She wasn’t getting better, and they needed to get her out of the room.

She would be better once she was, but it was clear that she was having a reaction to this main room. Andrew didn’t even want to consider what that meant. That was going to be between Nicole and her therapist.

"How?" Andrew asked in response, holding his thrashing sister up by her arms. The professionals shared a look, clearly trying to think of some ways to do so.

"Well, drugs, knocking her out with force, or...you could subdue her with your pheromones." One of the others said. Andrew felt his jaw tighten.

He didn’t like any of those options. Andrew didn’t want to subdue Nicole. It went against what he felt like he was trying to do by saving her. He could not, would not knock her out. He just knew that if she fell unconscious things would be even worse if she woke up from it. It was clear to anyone that Nicole had desperately fought to keep her sanity.

However, if he did nothing, there was a high chance that Nicole was going to hurt herself, and Andrew couldn’t live with himself if she got more injured in either capacity while he was here.

Things only took a harder turn when Nicole’s pheromones began to get involved.

She was throwing out her own pheromones wildly, trying to attack the others. It happened so suddenly, but Andrew watched as one of the nearby betas went down, his body trembling as pheromones lashed out at him like a whip.

The team helping out Nicole were betas, but she was a true alpha. She could force them to comply, like Andrew could. The police were also getting worried, clearly knowing that drugging her was not the right option right now.

Andrew didn’t want to do it, he really didn’t want to, but he knew he had no other choice. It was clear what option everyone else wanted him to do, as they knew that using drugs or force had to be last ditch options. Andrew winced as another beta went down, caught in Nicole’s pheromone whip. He just needed to use his pheromones to force her to stop. He just had to hope that he was stronger than her.

"I’ll do it! Step away!" Andrew shouted to the remaining betas, but a few remained nearby, stubborn. Andrew couldn’t exactly blame them. If this didn’t work, they had to be nearby to do the second step. Andrew wasn’t even sure if this was going to work. He didn’t know how powerful Nicole’s pheromones even were since he wasn’t being attacked with them.

He also didn’t know if he had enough control, which was why he wanted the others to move away from him in case he subdued them too. He’d already done that with the police and Thomas earlier, it wasn’t a far off thing for him to worry about.

Andrew took a deep breath in before he began unleashing his pheromones. He was doing it like a heavy blanket. Something to weigh her down, halt her from doing what she was. Nicole didn’t react immediately to what he was doing, but there was a point where it became obvious that something was changing. She began to move slower, her reaction times slowing down.

Andrew couldn’t tell if the others were being attacked or not, since you couldn’t see pheromones, but after Nicole began to slowly crumble under the weight of Andrew’s pheromones, her knees growing weak as she fell down again, everyone else knew it was working. Andrew hoped she wasn’t in any pain from his pheromones. That wasn’t what he wanted to do in this situation.

She’d already suffered enough.

Thankfully, this meant that they were able to scoop her up and get her out of the nightmare she’d been living in and into the hallway. No other omega remained around and when Thomas caught sight of her in the bright lights of the hallway, his face crumbled.

They had to pause to let Nicole get used to the new light, and in that time, Andrew got to see how bad her condition actually was. Andrew couldn’t stop the tears from streaming from his eyes.

Her hair was a rat’s nest, and it looked uneven. As if parts of it had been cut. It was something Andrew hadn’t even considered, but it was an act of cruelty that Andrew couldn’t ever forgive. Not only was she a few weeks away from her wedding, she was a black woman. This was horrendous for them to do to her.

Her face was covered in bruises, blood, and other secretions that made Andrew’s stomach roll. Her clothes were in tatters, her feet looked like they had cuts all over them, and hidden under the bite marks on her arms and exposed skin were more bruises.

It was clear that something had happened before she’d been thrown into the room. Andrew felt a sense of anger fill him that he hadn’t felt for a long, long time. This was a deeper level of fucked up, and it also felt like something more was going on.

He was missing a big piece of this. Why the hell would they do this to Nicole, leave her here, and flee from their own home? What was going on? What was Andrew not seeing?

And why the fuck was Tracey in there as well? That was something he kept circling back to. It still made no sense to Andrew.
