Chapter 460: Hard evidence

The first thing that Andrew noticed after the head officer warned him was the stench of blood. The iron scent was thick in the air, and Andrew’s stomach dropped.

Had Nicole...harmed someone? Had she harmed herself? Andrew’s first instinct was to rush in there, try to see if he could help, get her out. But the words of warning from the officer had him being a little more hesitant.

Delicate.

"Nicole sweetheart? Are you alright?" Andrew asked carefully as he pushed the door open slowly. Andrew discovered potentially a reason why there were feces and urine all over the place.

Nicole had locked herself in what appeared to be the only bathroom in the place. The door was right next to the sink, and when Andrew looked into it, he recoiled. Some things people never needed to see, and this was one of those things. Andrew wanted to cover his mouth, hide himself from the stench, but there was nothing he could do.

His mouth and nose were already covered, the scent was just that potent.

Next to the sink was a toilet, and Andrew could see what had to be a shower stall in the distance. There was no shower curtain on the shower, and the toilet had no lid. It felt more like a prison set up than anything else.

Andrew felt a bitter smile touch his lips. What was this if not a prison?

There was a skittering noise, and Andrew turned his phone flashlight towards the noise. His heart nearly sunk into the ground when he caught sight of her.

She was wearing the remnants of a nice outfit. It was torn to shreds, her arms exposed, and Andrew could see nail marks all over her arms and legs. Her hair was a mess, her eyes wide and wild. Her knees were pulled up to her chest, and she was rocking back and forth.

Nicole was so clearly in distress that it made Andrew want to rage. The worst part?

Bite marks. There were bite marks all over her hands, arms, there was even one on her exposed knee. Her mouth was covered in blood, her eyes were shocked and rimmed with red, and Andrew couldn’t tell if she had only injured herself, or someone else.

Andrew turned to the head officer next to him who had a similar grim expression on his face. He looked terrifying in the dim light that reflected off of what was supposed to be the white walls of the bathroom.

"We need to check to see if anyone was bitten when we’re clearing out this place." Andrew whispered and the head officer nodded.

"There is no way anyone can tell me she wasn’t a fucking victim in this." The officer responded back, and Andrew knew that was just as much for him, as it was for the body cam. Andrew shivered.

"Nicole? Sweetheart? It’s me, Andrew. Remember me?" Andrew spoke sweetly. Nicole stopped speaking, stopped muttering to herself so he wondered if she was paying attention to him at all. He glanced at the head officer, both men rather concerned about how they were both going to fit inside of the cramped room. Andrew gestured that he would go in first, and while it was clear the other man didn’t want that, he let him do it.

He really didn’t want to enter this cramped, foul smelling place, but there was nothing else he could do. Everywhere in this place was a fucking nightmare. It was a damn miracle he was keeping his cool right now.

He had a feeling that if Tracey wasn’t here, he would be having a harder time. Andrew smirked at that thought before he grew serious again.

Stepping into the cramped space, he held up both hands as he scooted past the broken door and...plugged sink. He shifted towards the toilet, not looking into it as he stood across from Nicole.

Carefully, with great caution, he crouched down and gently placed his hand on top of hers.

Her reaction was instantaneous and the head officer let out a shout of warning a second too late. Nicole sank her fangs into Andrew’s hand and Andrew couldn’t help the curse that left his lips.

"Fuck Nicole! That hurts!" Andrew shouted, but immediately grew more concerned for the woman, his half sister, who started sobbing. Tears poured from her eyes as she retracted from Andrew quickly, her body shaking.

"I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone. I didn’t mean to hurt anyone." It was with horror that Andrew realised that this was what he’d been hearing on the other side of the door. Andrew’s hand throbbed from where she’d sunk her fangs into his hand. It was a warning bite.

Get the fuck out of here is what that bite told him. Andrew’s eyes watered but he shook himself. Now was not the time to cry.

"Nicole, I’m not mad. See? I’m all fine. Plus, you can’t mark another true alpha." Andrew told her, but from the way she was speaking, he could tell that she couldn’t hear him. Andrew looked up at the head officer. He could tell that the other man was clearly distressed by the situation, like Andrew was. They were just both able to keep their cool.

The officer pressed a radio on his vest, waited for someone to answer him, before he called it in.

"We’re going to need back up. Repeat, we are going to need back up. Get ambulances here, everything you can spare. We are going to need the O.S.U. here as well, and no unmated alphas." Andrew tuned out whatever else he said, focusing on Nicole in front of him.

He placed another hand on hers, watching as she flinched, jerking towards him like a viper before she halted herself. She was shaking so fiercely, so hard that it was hard to watch. The stench was also awful.

Andrew wondered, for only a moment, if she had wet herself during this process, and then brushed that thought aside. This was no time to be worrying about something like that. He needed to respect her as a person, respect her dignity. No one else would make a damn note about that in any file.

A bitterness filled his chest shortly after. Even when he was experimented on they made sure he could go to the bathroom in relative peace. He could not believe that these people were worse than fucking evil scientists.

After the head officer finished speaking into his radio, Andrew took a deep breath in, inhaling Maxwell’s scent hidden under all of this filth.

"Head officer." Andrew said softly, glancing at him. "Can you turn off your body cam’s voice recording for a second?" Andrew asked and the man seemed shocked at Andrew’s request.

"Why? What are you going to say?" He asked and Andrew let out a heavy sigh.

"Something personal, that I don’t want others to know about yet." Andrew told him and the head officer stared at Andrew, before he sighed. Andrew heard him shuffle about, Andrew watching him, before he sighed.

"You’ve got about 30 seconds, Dr. Knox." The officer told him and Andrew set to work speaking.

"In one of the rooms to the left, there was a woman. Her name is Dr. Tracey Williams. You are going to want to keep her separate from the rest and you’ll want to arrest her too. She’s involved in an active lawsuit." Andrew told him bitterly. The head officer stared at him.

"Why would you need to mute others hearing that?" He asked and Andrew laughed.

"Because she’s my ex, and Maxwell might kill her if he sees her. As will Thomas. It’s a long story, but suffice to say, there’s a lot of bad blood between her and the Beckett’s." Andrew told him. It was not a lie.

It just wasn’t the whole truth.

"I was surprised to see her here. Truly. I had no idea I would see someone I recognised in this hell hole." Andrew told the head officer, whose expression was grim.

"I see. So I shouldn’t trust that she won’t be hurt?" He asked and Andrew shook his head.

"Oh no. They wouldn’t do anything here. I would just expect that as soon as she’s recognised, things might get more complicated." Andrew knew that the recording was back on, knew it would sound suspicious. Hell, he’d asked him to turn off the voice recording. That would be caught.

He just wanted that moment to save Maxwell’s face. He didn’t want Maxwell to see Tracey come out of the building and kill the woman. He could be asked about it personally. He didn’t care. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

A clearing of the throat had Andrew blinking, before he realised with horror, that he was on the phone with Thomas’, er, Luis’ lawyer.

"I will hold my tongue, Dr. Knox." The man told him over the phone, and Andrew felt his face go white. "Especially since it has to do with one of my clients." Andrew felt embarrassment wash over him.

"I...apologise." Andrew muttered. He couldn’t believe he’d fucked up like that.

"It’s easily forgiven, especially since I believe you’re in the belly of the beast, correct?" The lawyer asked and Andrew nodded. The man had remained silent for so long that Andrew had forgotten about it.

"We are truly in the belly. Nicole is here. Injured, but probably okay." Andrew said and the lawyer exhaled.

"We’ll have to see about that. I heard the call for back up as well." The lawyer said. "Forget I’m here again, and obviously, if the police need the recording, I am willing to hand it over." The lawyer said and the head officer nodded.

"Thank you." After that, it was a bit of a blur.

The police decided it was best to clear the rest of the omegas out of the room before they took Nicole out. She was not reacting well, and she bit Andrew two more times before she seemed to sink in on herself. Andrew knew the smell of the room was doing her no good, but it just wasn’t safe to take her out in the state that she was.

She was biting instinctively, he did not want her to lunge at an omega. That would break her heart.

While they were doing that, they were able to confirm that she hadn’t bitten anyone. Andrew, however, didn’t fully believe that. Not because he had no faith in Nicole, but because he had faith in the evil of this family. The room smelled too much like other true alphas.

If Nicole had bitten someone there was a chance, if she had bitten someone, that they had been removed from the room ahead of time. They wouldn’t know for a while yet since they couldn’t locate a single other member of the Abraham family during what was now a raid.

Andrew’s body vibrated with rage. At some point, Thomas was able to enter the rooms and take the phone back from Andrew, handing him a proper flashlight from one of the officers still outside the room. Thomas didn’t look like he was doing okay in the room, but Andrew was sure he looked like shit as well. Thomas’ face was pale, the veins on his neck in stark contrast. Andrew was sure he looked like an amber-eyed demon.

Thomas told Andrew that Kim had gotten restless and had gone downstairs with Ben and the other officers to help clear the rest of the house. Since she grew up in one of these hell holes, she might know where their secret hiding places were.

Andrew hoped that she was able to find something. This was truly horrifying, but he also knew that until Nicole was able to speak, they would need something else to justify why they were all here.

Hard evidence of evil doing, or else the Abraham family had a good reason to fire back at them. Andrew hoped that they found something, anything.

Fuck, and right before Christmas too.
