Chapter 491: A grandma’s concern

Andrew escorted Ellis and Richard directly to the black car that came to pick them up. Andrew tucked Ellis into the back of the car carefully, Richard hovering like a worried hen before he got into the car himself on the other side. He made sure the man was buckled in, safe, before Andrew considered closing the door.

He waved at Richard, standing there for a moment out in the cold as he watched the car pulling away until he turned and headed back into the party.

Maxwell, Luis, May and Kim were standing there when he got back. Kim looked a little confused from the distance he was viewing them but that confusion smoothed out by the time that Andrew joined them. He assumed it was because she had been brought up to speed on what was going on with the couple.

"You’re very kind, Andy." Kim told him when he arrived back to the group and Maxwell wrapped his arm around his waist and pulled him close. He tried to be subtle about it, but Andrew could feel how the man was wrapping his pheromones around him, clearly marking him and clearing him of the scent of the two omegas he’d been around.

Andrew tried not to let his lips twitch, but Kim, a fellow true alpha, could smell exactly what was going on. Her smile grew a little wider as Andrew nodded and gave a little sigh.

"Well, Maxy was the one who suggested it. I was honestly with them to apologise for something I had said earlier. He was the one who suggested I attempt to help since I have helped Amir a few times during his pregnancy when Ben was absent." Andrew said and that seemed to surprise May and Luis, but not Kim.

Her eyes narrowed as she stared at her nephew of sorts, before she gave a slow nod. She wasn’t holding a drink in her hands and her eyes were completely clear. Andrew wondered if she was keeping a clear mind just in case something or someone showed up. Andrew appreciated it if that was the case. He hadn’t continued to drink after getting back from Mr. Dalton’s side, and he hadn’t been drinking prior to that either.

"That’s...not as surprising as you think it would be to hear. That tidbit suits you." Kim said. "Your pheromones do have a soothing feeling to them. Even when you overwhelm people they aren’t as...hmm, sharp as some people can be? I think it’s just who you are, Andrew." Kim said and Andrew nodded.

"There can be a difference?" He asked and Kim nodded.

"Oh yes. However, don’t worry about how it happens. I believe it’s a case by case basis, and it hasn’t been studied in the slightest, I don’t think. No true alpha would like to find out what their pheromones feel like to others. They would all like to think they are unique." Kim said and Andrew chuckled.

"Are you part of that group?" He asked, teasing, and she nodded. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢

"Oh absolutely. I do not want to know, so get the sparkle out of your damn eye, Maxy. I am not going to participate in a study. Keep those for the other test subjects that are willing to do your dirty work." She said, teasing, and Maxwell laughed.

"Hey, at least I make them sign a contract and give them proper terms." Maxwell said and the rest of the group gave a tight laugh. Yeah, at least Andrew was a willing test subject for Maxwell. Not one forced to be one against his will.

The rest of the party was pretty uneventful. Jordan and Rose were the next of the inner circle to leave. Jordan was just too damn pregnant for his own good, he was uncomfortable in the clothes he was wearing and he just wanted to be at home. Andrew and Maxwell bid them goodbye, giving them tender hugs and Jordan held onto Andrew for a little too long. Rose was almost a little offended until Maxwell laughed and told Rose about the current theory with Andrew.

Because Amir was nearby, he gasped, and turned on the couch and gushed about how helpful being around Andrew had been and how soothing to his mind his pheromones, even if he couldn’t really feel them, had been. Jordan looked a little embarrassed to be behaving this way, and Andrew could tell Rose was getting a little jealous.

Andrew reached out and hugged Rose as well, for good measure and asked her to focus on his essence for a moment. After she did, she actually seemed a little...less tense. She also seemed a little stunned, so while they were saying their goodbyes, Jordan tucked himself under Andrew’s arm and shook hands instead of offering hugs.

Andrew didn’t mind, but he did feel a bit like he was an ornament or something that was being passed around. A good luck item or something for pregnant omegas. He really didn’t mind, but he could feel the sharp gazes on him at all times. The words that everyone wanted to say.

It was Amir’s grandmother that said them.

"Well, at least little Maxy won’t have a hard time if this is what you are like with all other pregnant omegas." He said with a sniff and a sparkle in his brown gaze. Maxwell froze for a moment, as did a few others.

"Well, we aren’t sure." Maxwell said carefully and he scoffed, waving a hand dismissively.

"What? Are you not planning to give this man some babies? Have you seen how he is with babies? With precious Mehar? He would love to have babies. As many as he could carry, and he’s strong." He said and Maxwell, bless him, his ears turned pink.

Andrew gave an awkward laugh and Jordan looked a little uncomfortable under Andrew’s arm. Talking about kids when it wasn’t obvious that the couple wanted them was...well, everyone kind of knew something was up with Andrew, so no one was forcing him into having kids.

Luis and Thomas were staring at Andrew and Maxwell intently and May was avoiding looking at Andrew. Amir winced and hid his mouth behind his hand away from his grandma and apologised.

"We aren’t rushing." Maxwell finally said. "We both decided that we wanted to enjoy our wedding and be able to drink, so we’ve been very safe." Maxwell said. Andrew reached out for Maxwell’s hand and gave it a squeeze. The man held onto his hand desperately. Amir’s grandma made an annoyed sound in the back of his throat.

"What is wrong with being pregnant at the wedding? Amir was pregnant, my sister was pregnant, many omegas have been pregnant. Is there shame? Would your family be ashamed of you? No!" Andrew wondered if he had had a few drinks, and when Andrew glanced at Amir, he looked so embarrassed he could die.

Andrew took the next argument, letting Maxwell rest.

"There isn’t any shame in it, but it’s something that Maxwell and I decided last year before we were even engaged. I didn’t want to make Maxwell uncomfortable on the day that he had planned out. I wanted him to be able to enjoy it in its entirety. He spent so much time planning it, and it takes two to get pregnant. I can control it on my end, so why not do so? We have plenty of time to try if we want to after we’re married. I am not owed children just because I like them. Plus, everyone around us are having children, so I can get my fix of fresh baby smells and squeals from them." Andrew said with a smile. Amir’s grandmother gave him a disgusted look and sighed.

"You are just keeping those cute little babies from me. I can see it. This is personal. I taught you how to make my dishes. You traitor." Amir’s grandfather chuckled from where he was sitting next to his wife and he got up to his feet slowly.

"I believe it is time for us to leave, my love. The wine has gone to your head, and our precious grandson looks embarrassed. Let’s go check on Mehar, hmm?" That was the best move. Amir’s grandfather gave both Maxwell and Andrew a wink, and Maxwell relaxed at the simple gesture.

Jordan stayed, waiting for the elders to leave before he gave Andrew and Maxwell another tight hug.

"Don’t rush if you don’t want to." Jordan whispered to them. "You’ll be perfect at whatever you decide." He told him quietly and Andrew felt his heart warm. He was glad that Jordan said it. He didn’t think that the others would blow smoke up their asses, but hearing it from the man who quietly watched the world gave him more assurance.

Maxwell gave a soft sigh before he smiled at Jordan.

"Thank you Jordan. Get some rest, alright? If anything happens, go to our hospital, alright? You’ll be well taken care of there." Maxwell told him and Jordan grinned.

"Everyone in your family has told me that today. One more time and I might just go to tease you all." Jordan’s eyes were kind as he said it and Maxwell gave him a soft smile. Jordan hugged Andrew one more time before he returned to his wife’s side, velcroing himself to her side. She helped her waddling, precious husband out of the venue.

Andrew, because he couldn’t help himself, watched them leave. He had to make sure that they made it safely to the car before he could relax. He caught Mr. Dalton’s gaze from across the room and noticed how the man was watching him, smirking. Andrew blushed as he mouthed the word ’protector’. It was embarrassing being caught.

The night was actually...uneventful compared to the year prior. Andrew hung out with the omegas he’d seen last year and they discussed wedding planning and everything that went with it. He was arm candy for Maxwell when he needed it. He was everywhere and nowhere all at once.

He did, however, feel the mood shift about an hour after they had sent Amir’s grandparents home and Jordan and Rose. It was because a black man had entered the party. Andrew couldn’t tell who at first, since Andrew had invited both Michael and Noah, but both men had told him that they had something on that day.

Michael had a client visit that he had to attend, and Noah had something he had to do last minute. He had sounded rather serious when he told Andrew over the phone on the way to visit Nicole.

So, it could have been either one of them. Andrew just had to get close enough to see which one of the pair it could be.
