Chapter 503: An emergency procedure

The second February, no, the third February that Andrew spent with Maxwell was something quite special. Jordan went into labor on the 10th, 4 days away from Maxwell’s birthday, and he gave birth to a beautiful little boy just before the clock struck 12 am on the 10th.

It was a grueling process, with several things going wrong during the process. The little boy didn’t want to move, so they thought they were safe to continue into the C-section. Until, the baby decided that he wanted to get this show on the road.

Jordan had to go through an emergency procedure for male omegas where he was forced to give birth the ’normal’ way. It was painful, excruciatingly painful and Jordan would be recovering for about 2 months pretty much in the hospital.

He lost a lot of blood during the process as well, leaving Rose an emotional mess. However, Jordan was conscious, able to talk, and tickled with his sweet little baby.

Thankfully, because they had made it to the Beckett family hospital, he had the best team working with him. William was there, not just hovering but actually putting his skills to work.

Andrew, Ford and May weren’t far behind and while Maxwell would have liked to be there, but was caught up in a meeting that also had Richard and Ellis caught up as well. It was an international meeting, hence the time difference, but still rather frustrating for everyone involved.

Andrew, since he wasn’t in the know anymore, couldn’t even fathom what would have all three of them caught up, but Andrew made sure to give Maxwell and Richard a play by play the whole time.

He would not have them worrying without cause.

When Andrew heard the angry, pissed off cries of a small baby extracted from their warm home, he felt like his legs went weak with relief.

Rose hadn’t been kicked out, so it was only a matter of time before she came out with the little one. She was wearing a light sheet over her clothes, keeping herself safe as she watched her husband do the hard work.

She looked pale as she came out holding the little raisin, but her arms were strong, protective around the little bundle. May and Ford went to her right away, comforting their daughter.

It was clear, before anyone said anything, that it had been a difficult birth.

"Is Jordan okay?" May asked, staring down at her first grandchild, but knowing that was less important. Rose nodded, her breath shaky as she held her child close to her chest.

"He is now. William has been...he’s been like an angel." Rose admitted, her eyes swelling with tears and that was when Andrew swept in, scooping up the little bundle and stepping back into the room while Rose was taken into the arms of her parents.

It was supposed to be a sweet moment, that was true, but they were first time parents and...either way, Rose needed a moment, and Andrew could go check on Jordan.

The man was lying down, pale as the sheets around him that weren’t soaked with blood. When William caught sight of Andrew, he hesitated, before turning away and telling the rest of the team to ignore Andrew and keep working.

Jordan was still awake, but it was clear that he was going to be whisked away at any moment for probably either surgery, or something along the lines. Andrew didn’t take in the scene around him, instead going to the new father.

"Hey Daddy. How are you feeling?" Andrew asked, holding the small baby in his arms and trying not to think about how Jordan could be Maxwell, pale and exhausted. The image changed when Jordan turned his head quickly towards Andrew, like he wasn’t in control, and gave a big, goofy smile.

He was drugged.

"Like I’m flying. Can’t feel my ass down though. The little guy decided to be difficult." Jordan said with a giggle, his gaze turning to the small bundle in Andrew’s arms and Andrew, without hesitation, moved closer so that Jordan could reach out and touch his little baby.

"It’s a boy?" Andrew asked softly and Jordan nodded, wonder on his face as he scanned the small clothed bundle. Jordan’s lips curled up as his baby grabbed his hand and gave it a squeeze.

"Yeah. Our sweet little boy." Jordan said, his smile softening and his eyes getting wet. Andrew worried for a second that they were sad tears until Jordan sniffed and gave another smile. "Did Rosie tell you?" He asked and Andrew shook his head.

"No, she didn’t." Andrew confirmed, and Jordan sniffed.

"Fern. We’re naming him Fern. His middle name is going to be Ford. Fern Ford Gates." Jordan told him and Andrew felt his chest warm.

"You’re going to name him after a plant?" Andrew teased and Jordan laughed, then winced.

"Shouldn’t do that." He muttered softly. "And what’s wrong with being named after a plant? Rosie is, and I like it. Maybe he’ll like to dye his hair like his Daddy." Jordan was clearly smitten with his little baby and Andrew was so glad that he was.

He just hoped that Rose felt the same. Sometimes when there was a traumatic birth, the other partner had a harder time connecting with the baby. Because Jordan was going to probably be bedbound, she was going to have to step up.

Not alone. Never alone, but he really, really hoped that she didn’t tumble down the wrong side of this situation.

"Andrew, we have to take him now." William’s voice was soft, his hand on Andrew’s shoulder even softer. Andrew wouldn’t have expected that from William, but his employees wouldn’t respect him as much as they did if he didn’t have a good bedside manner.

Andrew nodded, gently tugging the little Fern away from his Daddy and gently made the small baby’s hand wave to Jordan. Jordan was grinning from ear to ear as Andrew turned suddenly.

"Rose." Andrew said, glancing at William, and William grimaced but held off his team. Andrew moved to the door quickly, the baby safe in his arm as he opened the door.

"Rose, they’re taking him to the next location. You should see him." Andrew said, not paying attention to how much she was crying in her Mom’s arms. Rose raised her head, sniffing, her face a mess and Andrew’s shoulders softened. "Come on, Mama. You need to send Jordan off with a smile or else he might hold this against you for years to come." Andrew teased and Rose gave a slightly hysterical laugh, glanced at the baby in Andrew’s arms, and shivered.

May wouldn’t let her daughter behave like that for a second and was the backbone that Rose needed to get her into the room with Jordan. Andrew stepped out into the hallway, the small bundle of joy in his arms and Ford moved towards him.

"You spoke to Jordie?" Ford asked softly and Andrew nodded as both of them looked at the scrunched up little bean in Andrew’s arms.

"Yeah. He was awake, but clearly drugged up. He was in good spirits, even if he was as pale as the sheets he was under." Andrew opened his mouth to voice his concern about male omega births, before he closed it. He would have to keep that to himself right now. No one else needed to know his worries when they were all so worried about Jordan right now.

Instead, Andrew took a steadying breath and gave Ford a soft smile.

"Meet your first grandchild, Ford. This is Fern Gates." Andrew said, leaving out the middle name. It was not his place to tell that. He would leave that for Jordan or Rose. Ford’s face softened as he stared at the sleeping baby.

"What a sweet little squishy bean you are, Fern." Ford spoke softly to the little one. He didn’t move to take the baby from Andrew’s arms, but he came closer, offering Fern his thicker, worn fingers. Fern complained and Ford laughed. "What a complainer. You didn’t get that from your Daddy." Ford said playfully, before he glanced up at Andrew. "He’s going to be okay?" Ford asked, referring to Jordan.

Andrew nodded.

"Of course he’s going to be okay. The Beckett’s are looking after him, and while I don’t know what went wrong, I know that they are going to their best. The fact that he was talking was a good sign. William would have said something if things were going poorly. He’ll be okay, but my guess is he’s going to have a long recovery time." Andrew guessed and Ford nodded, swallowing.

"Thank you for being honest." Ford said. "And thank you for being here, Andy." Ford said, raising his gaze to Andrew. Andrew gave a tight smile.

"Where else would I be? You’re family." Andrew told him. Ford gave a shaky breath, before a slightly devious smile touched his lips.

"Yeah, we’re family, but you missed their wedding." He said and Andrew groaned.

"I’m never going to live that down." Andrew complained and Ford chuckled. All humour left when Jordan left the room with the team, quickly moving down the hallway. He didn’t even look at them.

Shortly after, Rose and May came out of the room. Any strength that Rose had composed was gone. May was supporting her completely and Andrew took this time to speak to a nurse and make sure that they were in the right place, everything was okay with little Fern and that nothing else needed to be done with him.

Rose wasn’t able to do so, but Andrew could. Family helped family, and Fern just happened to be the newest member. Whether Jordan was here or not, he would want this for his son. Rose would too, once she was free of the fear and worry plaguing her.

Andrew knew it. He had faith in her. Plus, her Mom was made out of nails. Rose wasn’t going to get away with neglecting her child longer than May was willing to give her.

Everything was going to be okay.
