(BL)Alpha Made-Chapter 521: A brunch to remember
It was two days before Maxwell and Andrew were supposed to leave for the family estate when Andrew heard word. The reason they were going over early? To get settled and hopefully have some relaxing, peaceful time before chaos descended on the island. Andrew was not expecting anything from anyone during this time, so he was rather shocked when he got the call.
The police officer in charge of the case called to let Andrew know that they had caught the other person involved on the files. It wasn’t normally something that they would call about, but Andrew was a special case. Since it was also clear that the other party meant him and his family malice, it was important for him to know that some members had been caught.
Andrew had been at brunch with Maria because she had a gift to give him for the honeymoon when he’d gotten the call. They had been at this fancy restaurant that had just popped up and she was super excited to take him to. He had been hesitant to go at first, but Maxwell was the one who had ultimately convinced him to go.
It would mean that Maxwell could feel less guilty about spending more time before their wedding working, and Andrew didn’t want the man to feel guilty. So, Andrew went, and up until that point, Andrew had been having a great time.
Then, an unknown caller had flashed on Andrew’s phone and, confused, Andrew let Maria know about it and she, also confused, encouraged him to answer. At first, Andrew had a hard time hearing the officer over the upbeat music, so Andrew excused himself to go stand by the bathrooms where it was a little more quiet.
That was where the officer identified himself as the Detective that Andrew had spoken to before at the police department. He had promised he would call before Andrew’s wedding, and while he was cutting it a little close, he was excited to let him know that they had caught the other scientist who was mentioned all over the documents in Andrew’s case.
Andrew felt like the ground had dropped out from under him. Heather had been caught.
The Detective had sounded rather happy, giddy, and had even disclosed that they had caught a few more of the family members who had escaped, but he was unable to disclose anything else. Andrew wasn’t even sure what to say in response, and the Detective sensing his surprise, softened his voice.
He told Andrew that he was free to take his time to process this information, but he didn’t want him to think about it in the upcoming days. He just wanted Andrew to go into his wedding knowing one less person was after him. Andrew had managed to thank him for calling and the Detective wished him congratulations for his upcoming wedding before Andrew hung up.
He stood there for a while, not remembering the time between hanging up and then making it back to the table. Maria was concerned for him, reaching out and taking his hand while Andrew processed whatever the phone call had been. She asked if she should message Maxwell to come get him, but Andrew just shook his head.
He just needed a moment.
Eventually, Andrew opened up to her, explaining who the other person on the phone had been, and what they had said to him. Maria listened, her face serious, and told the server when they came by that they both needed a mimosa flight. Andrew had wanted to protest, but Maria’s look was fierce.
It was clear that the waitress agreed because she came back with two mimosas while the flights were being made, dropping them off and saying that they were on the house. Andrew thanked her kindly, while Maria reached across and took his hand, listening as Andrew spoke.
By the time that the waitress came back with the actual flights, both Maria and Andrew were done the complimentary mimosas that had been dropped off and Andrew was explaining more of what had happened, along with dumping on Maria his own worries that had led up to this moment and how he had been 3 steps away from being a complete groomzilla.
Maria listened, her face unchanging as Andrew vented. By the time that he was done, he felt breathless and like a weight had been lifted off of his chest. They were two mimosa flights deep, they’d ordered fries which Andrew wasn’t even sure were on the menu, and the waitress had been by a few times to top up waters for them.
Maxwell had texted him a few times, but he didn’t sound worried. Not until the last text at least.
"Can I call Max now?" Andrew asked softly and Maria nodded, letting Andrew excuse himself from the table to call Maxwell and let him know what had happened. He also apologised for the delay. He got caught up talking to Maria about everything and kind of couldn’t stop.
Maxwell heard everything, including the apology and told Andrew to wait there. He was coming. Andrew felt his stomach twist, worrying that the other man was going to be angry with him. When Andrew arrived back at the table looking even worse for wear, Maria shook her head.
"Andy, the wedding stress is going to kill you. You should have just eloped if it was going to be this bad." She told him and Andrew shook his head. It wasn’t the stress of the actual wedding. That was never the issue. He wanted to be tied to Maxwell for life.
It was...everything else surrounding it, and the uncertainty. Did this news make him feel better? Yes, it did. He actually felt way better after speaking to Maria about this, but he was just worried now that Maxwell was disappointed in him because he told someone else first.
It was honestly like he’d actually gotten pregnant because of Maxwell during his heat. That was how emotional he was feeling. However, he had been very safe with Maxwell after that, and the man had taken a pregnancy test just to be safe. They were fine. No one in their house was pregnant.

When Maxwell showed up about 15 minutes later, he was in his suit, his hair was perfect, and he was holding a bouquet of flowers. Something simple, nothing too extravagant, but when he came over to Andrew and handed them over, Andrew felt his heart squeeze. Maxwell was a little out of breath, his cheeks a little pink from exertion, and he’d even gotten Maria a little bouquet as well. Andrew thought he was going to cry.
"It’s nothing too big, but I thought you deserved some flowers before the wedding and...this is a little congratulations, you know? One less thing we need to worry about. Both of the fuckers who hurt you have been caught by the police, Andy. Now we both can rest a little easier." Maxwell told him and Andrew had looked at his smaller, stronger fiancé and crumbled.
Maria and Maxwell did not look surprised that Andrew started crying. In fact, Maxwell pinpointed who their server was in a heartbeat and asked her, politely, for more tissues. It was a rather emotional day for his fiancé, and they had just heard good, but hard to hear news. The waitress was immediately sympathetic, having witnessed and overheard some of the conversation throughout the brunch.
Maxwell pulled over a seat, sitting at the table and taking Andrew’s hands into his. Maria placed her hand on Andrew’s shoulder, offering comfort as Andrew cried. He felt ridiculous. He was twice the size of both of the people in front of him, and it was taking both of them to comfort him. He shouldn’t be so greedy.
However, Andrew didn’t even get a chance to voice his complaints because both Maria and Maxwell looked ready to kill him if he did. Like they could predict that Andrew was going to tell them that he was alright, he didn’t need their comfort. Like they knew he was going to try to push at least one of them away during this.
Eventually, Andrew calmed down enough that he felt like a human again. The weight that had been on his shoulders had depleted by more than half, and he felt like he could breathe again. He hadn’t realised how much he’d been holding in. It was only made worse when Maxwell had smiled at him sweetly and told him he was a rather handsome balloon.
Maria had laughed, taking Andrew’s glasses away from the man to dry them off with a clean napkin.
Andrew didn’t know what he would do without either of them there with him.
He was sure that the staff would never forget this experience. It wasn’t everyday they got to see a true alpha bawl like a baby after hearing some kind of good but bad news, and then be comforted by two omegas. It was probably going to be the talk of the town. It was only made even bigger when Maxwell asked if he could pay for a round for all of the staff working, and pay the bill.
Maria had protested at that, just out of principle, and Maxwell had shut her up with a look. Maria had pouted, annoyed, and told Maxwell that she was going to complain to her husband about this. Maxwell had shot back that her husband didn’t complain when Maxwell paid their dinner bills and that had shut Maria up.
Maria had then pulled out her phone and typed a rather aggressive message to said husband, showing Andrew that she was complaining that Maxwell was covering her bill and that he had ratted him out as well. Andrew had chuckled at that, especially since her husband had responded while Andrew was looking at the screen.
The man was clearly a little annoyed that Maxwell had told on him, but that didn’t matter too much. Maria was smiling too much for there to be any actual venom to her words.
Maxwell paid the bill, picked up the gift bag that Maria had arrived with to give Andrew and Maxwell for the honeymoon, and then slid his hand into his bigger, softer fiancé’s hand with a smile.
"Come on, big boy. Max needs to go back to work, but he needs to get his precious man back home safe and sound." He said, raising the back of Andrew’s hand to his lips and pressing a kiss there. Andrew felt himself swoon. He was well and thoroughly caught by the sweet-talking man next to him.
He could tell that the others were surprised by how Maxwell was treating Andrew. It was clear that they were not expecting that kind of dynamic from them, and Andrew didn’t feel the need to explain himself. Instead he bent, pressing a kiss against the other man’s cheek.
He wanted to apologise for interrupting his work day, but the words caught in his throat at the way that Maxwell was looking at him. It would be rude to do that, especially as Maxwell came to pick him up and treated not just him, but Maria well.
"Thank you for picking me up, Maxy." Andrew whispered, and Maxwell’s eyes curled up as he grinned. It was such a happy, pretty thing that Andrew lost the ability to breathe. He was sure everyone else watching was in the same state.
Maxwell was so damn pretty when he smiled, Andrew felt that angels wept.
"You’re welcome, Baby. Maria, do you have a ride home?" Maxwell asked and Maria blinked.
"Zack is on his way." She confirmed and Maxwell nodded, gave Andrew’s hand a squeeze, and excused them. Andrew followed him willingly, entranced by his sweet fiancé.
