(BL) Taming the Field Guide-Chapter 71: Just a little snack
There was a time, only a few months ago, where Kellen would never have believed someone if they told him he would find himself in the position that he was currently in.
Not only would it have been a pipe dream, Kellen didn’t even think he would have even dreamed of this situation before. Wasn’t even on his radar.
Kellen was sitting in Rhys’ lap, while Rhys sat at his desk, working away on his computer. People kept coming in and out of the room, glancing at Kellen and Rhys, but not saying a word. Instead, they would ask Rhys their questions and then leave. Kellen was a little anxious about the situation he found himself in.
Only because he wasn’t a small man. He was sure it looked a little ridiculous to have Kellen on his lap. Kellen knew he’d put on more weight since he was eating the same way he’d been since he started being Rhys’ partner. He’d even said as much. He probably dwarfed Rhys, but he wouldn’t say that he was too heavy.
He knew that those were fighting words, and the glint in Rhys’ eyes begged him to say it. Especially when he’d first pulled Kellen into his lap. Rhys had pulled him in, settled him side saddle on his lap, his hand firmly on Kellen’s thigh and squeezed. The little smug look on his face just begged Kellen to protest, but Kellen wouldn’t.
He liked spending time with Rhys, and even if he felt awkward, he wasn’t about to give up the time he was spending with him. Especially since it gave him a peek into how he lived his everyday life.
Kellen was fascinated with watching how Rhys worked. How he treated his people, how he was able to work away on the things on his plate. Kellen felt like he needed to be doing something at the same time, but that didn’t take away from the fact that he liked watching him work.
It was one of the reasons why Kellen fell in love with the man in the first place. Watching him work and be all sexy on the front lines and really solidified Kellen’s feelings for the man.
"Hungry?" Rhys’ soft, sweet voice surprised Kellen. He had gotten used to the rumble of the man speaking to others that he was startled by him speaking directly to Kellen.
"Uh, not really?" Kellen replied. He hadn’t stopped guiding long enough for Kellen’s hunger to return. It would take months for Kellen’s body to adjust enough that he would feel hunger again. Rhys’ hand slid to Kellen’s thigh again, giving it a squeeze and Kellen felt his stomach flip. Rhys smiled at him warmly.
"Would you like to have a snack? I heard that the cafeteria made some nice snacks." Rhys told him. Kellen wondered where he had heard that, since Kellen had been with him for a while now.
"Oh? How did you hear that?" Kellen asked and Rhys’ smile grew. His hand squeezed Kellen’s thigh tighter.
"You let me worry about the little details, alright?" Rhys told him and Kellen gave him a skeptical look. The little details? Okay, Captain Thatcher. Whatever you say.
Rhys grinned as Kellen rolled his eye and sighed. Rhys leaned in, gave him a kiss on the cheek before pulling out his phone and calling someone. It was only ten minutes later that someone knocked on the door and entered.
It was one of the receptionists pushing into the room with a trolley laden with snacks and drinks. Enough snacks and drinks to feed a family of 5. Kellen stared in shock at the trolley while the receptionist and Rhys grinned.
"Here’s your order, Captain Thatcher. Do you need anything else?" She asked, glancing at Kellen, smiling when she caught his eye, and turning back to Rhys.
"Can you push it closer, please? I want to be able to grab the food and drinks while keeping my precious cargo on my lap without jostling it too much." Rhys said, patting Kellen’s thigh. She giggled, nodded, and moved the trolley closer until it was within Rhys’ grasp. Kellen watched this interaction, not fully comprehending that he was a part of this interaction.
He was the precious cargo that Rhys didn’t want to jostle. The thought alone made Kellen’s cheeks burn. The receptionist watched as Kellen slowly turned the colour of a tomato, giggled, and excused herself. Rhys let her go, pulling the trolley just a little bit closer as he examined everything.
"What are you feeling, Kellen? Maybe a drink? Tea, presumably. Ah! It looks like they grabbed that matcha thing you liked last time. Would you like that?" Rhys asked, still scanning everything on the trolley. Kellen needed a second before he was able to speak.
"Is anything on that trolley for you?" Kellen asked. He watched as Rhys’ lips twitched, his eyes crinkling up at the corners before he cleared his throat and slid a glance towards Kellen.
"Of course. Why wouldn’t there be anything on here for me?" He suggested, sounding a little hurt. Then, he reached into the organised chaos that was the top of the trolley and pulled out one thing.
It was an orange.
Kellen’s mouth opened slightly while Rhys gave him a wide, cheeky grin.
"See? They made sure that I got my favourite fruit." He said. Kellen was going to strangle the man.
"That’s it? Rhys Thatcher!" Kellen did his best not to raise his voice, but placed a firm hand on Rhys’ chest. It was a warning pat, and Rhys continued to grin like a little kid.
"What? I think it’s very thoughtful of them." He protested, not even able to keep a straight face at this point. "It’s very caring of them to put something I like so much on the trolley." He was full of shit. He knew it, Kellen knew it, and Rhys finally tossed his head back and laughed. "You look so angry right now. You aren’t actually angry, are you?" Rhys asked, worry creeping into his voice.
"I will be if you’re about to tell me that I’m eating all of that." Kellen warned. "There is no way. I’ve said nothing so far, but if you make me eat that many calories all on my own, I’m going to be pissed. I’ll take up running or something, and you won’t be able to argue with me or convince me to stop." Kellen warned. Rhys, chuckling, put the orange down on the desk and pulled Kellen even closer.
He let out a groan as he hugged Kellen tighter, squeezing Kellen against him before he sighed heavily. It wasn’t a sad sigh, but instead a sigh of complete comfort.
"It’s so nice to have you here with me." Rhys told him. "Even if you are threatening me with working out. I can’t help but find everything that you do so sweet." Rhys held him tightly, and Kellen couldn’t find this anything but sweet. Kellen leaned into the hug, nuzzling against the other man.
"So? Are you going to eat some of this with me?" Kellen asked and Rhys laughed. He squeezed Kellen tighter.
"You strike a hard bargain there, Kellen, but I guess I have no choice. You’re too pretty for me not to fold quickly." He said, pulling back with a wink. For a moment, the air was thick as both Kellen and Rhys stared at each other. Their lips were only a few centimeters apart, their breaths mingling. Kellen felt the pull, and knew that Rhys felt it too.
The humour and joy left his face, his expression growing serious as Kellen swallowed thickly.
Rhys was the one who turned away, frowning. His grip on Kellen tightened to an almost painful level, before he relaxed his grip.
"You’re too damn tempting." Rhys murmured. He then reached for a snack, a stuffed croissant filled with cream and fruit, and turned to Kellen. "Here. Have a bite." Rhys’ voice was a little husky and Kellen could only stare at the food for a moment before he opened his mouth and took a bite.
Rhys watched him, his gaze focused on Kellen’s mouth. Kellen kept eating, the moment intense as both men continued. Rhys licked his fingers clean of the cream when Kellen was done with the croissant before reaching for something else.
This continued until Kellen finally snapped a bit and sucked on Rhys’ finger. Rhys shuddered, his gaze golden as he watched Kellen.
"Fuck." Rhys growled, pulling his finger out of Kellen’s mouth, breathing heavily. Kellen wasn’t completely unaffected either. He could feel how his cock had hardened, and since he was in Rhys’ lap, he could tell he was hard as well.
"Are you going to eat?" Kellen asked, his voice raspy and Rhys’ eyelids fluttered. Kellen moved, leaning over and grabbed something off of the trolley. It was an eclair, and Kellen didn’t worry about how everything so far had been filled with cream and chocolate. He pressed the treat against Rhys’ lips, watching the man, daring him.
When Rhys opened his mouth and bit down, Kellen’s breath fluttered out between his lips. He watched Rhys chew and swallow, devouring the eclair in a few big bites. Kellen didn’t even care that some of the cream had spilled out and onto his fingers.
He turned his fingers around, sucking them into his own mouth and watched how Rhys stared at him like a damn monster. Kellen’s body shivered. God, he loved it when he looked at him like that. Like he wanted to eat every last bite of him without leaving a single crumb.
"H-How was it?" Kellen asked and Rhys licked his lips.
"Like I want more." Rhys told him softly. Kellen shivered. Without hesitation, he moved and reached for another one and pressed it against Rhys’ lips. It was another thing filled with cream. Kellen had no idea what the pastry was, but Rhys bit down, his teeth sinking into the top of the pastry. Kellen couldn’t breathe as he watched the man swallow.
The way that Rhys looked at him told him that they were only a few moments away from everything going to shit. Kellen didn’t have the strength to push him away either.
Thankfully, someone knocked on the door. Rhys growled, but Kellen could see in his eyes that he was relieved too. Kellen moved carefully, slowly, getting out of Rhys’ lap. For his safety, and for Rhys’. Rhys wasn’t happy, in fact, he looked pissed, but he didn’t voice his feelings.
Kellen had his back to the door, his face flushed, his hand touching the warmth of his cheeks as Rhys cleared his throat.
"Come in." He called, his voice gruff. Kellen could feel how fast his heart was going in his chest. Thank god someone had come to interrupt them. Kellen wasn’t sure what would have happened.
