Chapter 169: Ch 169: Kidnapping - Part 2

’Do I... even have a home?’

Shuu wanted to believe that he had a home, and for some time, the imperial castle did feel like home. But this was not his true home. Shuu knew that he would never want to return here if not for the people.

Then, were the people here his home?

Emperor Kaiden, Caelis, and Rin certainly felt like home. But a part of him was still not sure if this was what he wanted.

’Just what do I want for myself?’

Shuu asked himself as he followed the man walking in front of him. He did not expect to get an answer, so the voice in his subconscious startled him when it replied.

’What you want... isn’t that simple? You want to return to your origin... where it all began. You want to return to the goddess’s embrace, right?’

The voice was not loud, but it felt loud enough for Shuu to gasp. A strange feeling filled his insides, and Shuu felt a shiver run down his spine.

"Oi-! What are you thinking about? Hurry up and start moving."

The assassin reminded Shuu as he turned around and grabbed his arm. The sudden tug made Shuu gasp, and he almost fell, but he caught himself at the last second.

It was quiet outside, and the lack of patrol worried Shuu. He wanted to know where all the guards had gone, but he had no time to do so because he was shoved into a carriage as soon as they exited the imperial castle.

"Stay inside and do not make any noise. If you are lucky, we will get what we want soon enough, and you will be free to go once more."

The assassin told Shuu, and he suddenly regretted his impulsive decision. He should not have followed the assassin out, much less gotten into the same carriage as him. This was likely going to cost him dearly...

But it was too late to turn back at this point. He had already been kidnapped as Emperor Kaiden’s ex-companion.

Not that it mattered much.

"Tsk, he’s just an ex-companion. The emperor will soon forget all about him. And if not, then Baron Conner and Duke Inferno assured me that they will take care of it all. But what should I do with this ex-companion now? Should I kill him...?"

The assassin thought about it, but his instincts told him that it would be a bad idea. And as someone who had survived all this time due to his instincts, he had no desire to oppose them at the moment.

So he decided to keep Shuu locked up for now and then throw him into a backward town’s monastery. That way, he would not have to worry about him. A backward area would also have no idea what Emperor Kaiden’s companion looked like.

He could frame Shuu as a mentally ill patient and leave this Chapter behind in his life.

’Once I have the money, I will run away and never be seen again. I am sure it will be just fine...’

Unfortunately for the assassin, he never got to have his wish fulfilled because monsters attacked his wagon not long after he reached the outskirts.

And the only thing known about Shuu was that he disappeared.

__________

Too much had happened last night, but no one in the imperial castle seemed to be aware of it. The empty hallway slowly began to show signs of movement, and the guards went back to their duty, only to be rudely awakened by a loud yell.

The noise was coming from Emperor Kaiden’s wing, and there was only one person who sounded like this.

"Prince Caelis, is everything alright?"

The maids quickly came to check up on the prince.

Even if they did not like Shuu’s current position, the position of the crown prince was unlikely to change, especially since Prince Caelis was beginning to show more and more signs of emerging as a hero.

Two heroes had never coexisted at the same time before. Usually, the hero had to die for another to be born, but this generation was already too unique. Maybe that was possible as well.

So no one wanted to be on the crown prince’s bad side.

"Prince Caelis, what’s wrong?"

The maids opened the door and entered the room. They looked around, only to see eyes filled with anger and resentment looking back at them.

"Shuu-? Where-?"

Caelis asked in an annoyed voice, and all the maids exchanged a look.

They had not seen Shuu anywhere, but that was not uncommon. Since they usually tried to avoid Shuu anyway, it was not something new to them.

"P-Prince Caelis, calm down. I am sure Companion Shuu is around here somewhere. He must have gone to refresh himself or-"

"No-! Get me Shuu-! I want Shuu-!"

Caelis was not calming down, and everyone turned to look at Rin for help.

They did not care for Rin, but they did know that if there was one person here who could calm Prince Caelis down, it was Rin.

Unfortunately, Rin was too shy and decided to bury his face against Caelis’s back. He was of no help to these people, and they instantly abandoned him in order to curry favor with the crown prince.

"Prince Caelis, please calm down. We will look for Companion Shuu and let him know that you are looking for him, alright? Now, why don’t you rest in Princess Danielle’s chambers? She can take care of you-"

"No-! I will wait for Shuu."

The prince decided, and all the guards had no choice but to take his words into consideration.

As much as they wanted not to care, they knew that it would be disastrous for them should this information get back to Emperor Kaiden once he returned.

"Alright, please stay here for now. I will appoint some guards to stay with you while we... look around for Companion Shuu, alright?"

The maids tried to convince the kids to calm down, but neither Caelis nor Rin looked like they wanted to calm down.

The maids sighed, knowing that they would find Shuu easily. But within an hour, it became clear that this was not the case.
